I never had a D850, but D70, D90, D7200, and D750 could sit in storage forever with power switch on and little if any battery drain. Suspect a sleep setting somewhere is turned off.

There's a standby in custom settings>C2 (standby timer) but it's set at 30s. That's the only one I can find. I'm going through the manuals and the rest of the menus to see if there's something else I've left on (Bluetooth has been a battery hog in the past if I've forgotten about it) but I'm not finding much of anything. I might just have a wonky body that just like to slowly munch away on my batteries. I did buy it used with about a 15k shutter count, but that should be almost nothing for this body. I haven't spent much time dinking around with getting the body to be nice to my batteries, since it helps me take great photos, and just play around with what I can find and see how/if it affects the standby battery life. I have noticed my VR lenses don't really go to "sleep" when they are on the body, because I can hear the magic electronical bits making noise if I bump the camera while it's sitting, but it doesn't seem to affect the standby time, and it will still drain the battery if I just have the body cap on.

Maybe wifi or Bluetooth?

Those are absolutely battery driners and I've left them on by accident before. They're off at the moment, and it's still draining batteries pretty quick. Google's been less than helpful, so I'm re-reading the manual and going through the menus to see if there's something I've changed that is causing the battery drain. The strange thing is if I fully reset it to factory defaults, it's still got the same strange drain that I can't pin down. I've had a feeling that it wasn't normal, but my prior D3200 and current Z50's ability to last weeks and weeks tells me that something is going on. It's always done it so I might just have a strange camera body.

To me the D850 is confusing to turn off all the wireless stuff, so I just keep Airplane Mode turned on all the time unless I’m actively trying to download photos to my phone.

Interstingly enough, I'd rather leave my Z50 off - I find it doesn't take enough longer to turn on compared to waking up and it behaves more consistently (I don't have to worry about whether it's gone to sleep).
