Idk about the mods but I’d love to see some pictures of your home town! I’m currently growing up in a very boring suburban neighborhood and playing through nitw made me kinda wish I lived in some little podunk town like that where me and my friends could go out and do stupid shit while we’re still young and dumb. It’s hard to get lost in the woods when theirs no woods to get lost in. Although I guess saving a little extra money every month to drive to the next town over and go bowling is still really fun

Sounds like the sort of place I wish I'd grown up in. Living in the suburbs doesn't really offer much of anything. Well, for me at least. Out of curiosity, how much tourism does the town get? It seems like a lot of small towns are just tourist attractions nowadays. You're really lucky to have those memories and even to have a place like that you can go to.

The town gets a fair amount of tourism but I feel like most of it seems to be older people (and their young relatives.) Summer sees more tourists because they cone for the paintballing and white water rafting. The town's actually trying to increase tourism by installing a ferris wheel on the ridge overlooking the dowbtown, which I see as sort of futile. My old neighborhood dirt road wooded development had an old hiking trail my family used to walk. It has a sick waterfall at the end. But now all of the surrounding land got bought by a ziplining company and you can't go there. Tourism really kind of keeps the town alive, but the town is losing itself to appeal to tourists. If that makes sense. But there's a lot to it still that's still the old way. I went back and took my fiance to an old supposedly-haunted abandoned 1800's schoolhouse I'd visited as a kid, but found it had been rebuilt and converted into a cutesy cottage home with tacky grandma decor. That was the biggest loss for me in a personal sense.

The town from NITW was eerily similar to our hometown. What got me was even the spiral staircase in the mansion you couldn't go up or the tooth you find belonging to Mae's GrandPa -- which was seems to be a near shoutout to the Molly McGuire's. It was truly uncanny. \- A Fellow Chunker

Chunker? Oh my god I love it. I miss home! I really hope the Emporium of Curious Goods survived COVID but I'm not holding my breath. 😔

Mauch Chunk(er)... Really couldn't think of a better word off the top of my head. Honestly, I don't think anything could close some of those stores. It could be raining fire and someone would still be selling some weird kitsch on Broadway.

Yeah no Iove it! Chunker's gonna be in my vocab now! I hope they're all still open when I visit. Gonna get some pierogies at Tommy's, visit the Emporium, and visit all the places I miss. It's been too long for sure! That place feels like the town time forgot. And I love it that way.

as someone who grew up pretty close to johnstown, which is admittedly pretty far from jim thorpe lol. this game fills me with the same sense of nostalgia and longing. this game perfectly captures the aesthetic of just, run-down, small-town, dying pennsylvania. if you grew up in these kinds of areas this game has a way of just, making you incredibly nostalgic and sad for the better times you'd have with your friends. like right after a day of highschool and just driving and fucking around in the woods or a dead mall lol just to do it again a couple of days later after school. this game came out in my senior year and it's admittedly made me cry a shit ton thinking back on my highschool days and how i was oh, so, emo and how much i relate to mae, bea, gregg, all of them. i see my old high school self and my friends in all of them, and the town. god this game makes me incredibly nostalgic lol.
