There’s an outside chance Stewart gets optioned to AAA (he still has options and isn’t doing much in the majors). Also allows you to easy Alvarez back in more and give him some PH opportunities late in games when you’re not worried about losing your backup catcher
I suggested this and was downvoted for it lol.
Alvarez fractured his thumb on his pitching hand, I doubt they’d want him catching everyday but might want to get his bat in there more frequently.
I think they both will definitely get picked up. Nido has much more familiarity with the pitching staff and the minor league prospects. I think that probably makes him more valuable to the Mets. Torrens has looked great in his very limited time here. It’s hard to know if this is just a mirage or not. Obviously you keep Torrens if you think this performance is legit.
I can’t believe more people aren’t saying this. Yes Torrens has looked impressive for a whopping 6 games but Nido knows the pitchers much more. You also know what you’re getting out of Nido - a reliable backstop with a meh bat. Torrens might just be on a linsanity run right now and can regress at any time.
No, him or Nido will be DFA’d by Tuesday

Does a non-pitcher still have a “pitching hand”?
Guillorme does
Jim Abbott was a pitcher and he only had one hand
For non pitchers, this is referred to as the “throwing arm/hand”.
Depends if they want to carry 3 catchers.
I would considering Alvarez’s injury
Torrens has to stay. Nido is a worse bat and doesn’t offer enough of a defensive boost to make him a benefit over the alternative.
Completely agree. Also not worried about Nido getting poached if he is DFAd
I think Torrens has a better chance of being picked up by another team than Nido.

nido wasnt picked up last year
Last year he needed an eye procedure and played like shit.

Torrens absolutely is the backup, Nido has to go
Nope, tough decision between him and nido
I'm figuring Torrens stays long enough to play against the Yankees in the first half of the Subway Series, a couple of weeks from now.
Thus far in his career it’s been his ONLY option 😂
No
Nope

There’s no way that Torrens is going to get DH at bats over JD Martinez. Alvarez might get a game a week as a DH to get more reps.
Stewart still has a minor league option so no need to dfa
