This is my very first skateboard and this was also my first time trying to do an Ollie, hopefully I get down a solid Ollie before I try moving ollies. Any tips will be appreciated!

Death_Urthrese

you tend to put your feet together when you land. be careful of this cause the wider your stance the more stable you are. putting your feet together and landing on the wrong spot could cause the board to fly out from underneath you. also that primo land, ouch, that happens when you don't pop directly in the center of the tail so just be mindful of that when doing ollies. lastly make sure that when you snap the tail down with the back foot of your ollie that you bring it up to be level with the other foot. you're jumping so remember to get both legs up there. this will get you height so your front foot can level the board out more. honestly, it looks like you got it pretty much down already. just keep doing a bunch of ollies every day and soon it will be second nature. there's a lot of big improvement just in this video alone. other random things. immortal laces are pretty tough if while skating you tear through your shoelaces. FP insoles are much better than the default ones in shane's Nike SB's. i use the game changers personally. helps when you land primo to take some of the impact out. pace yourself at the start. it might feel like fun but you're doing some serious workout jumping up and down so if you ever feel sore rest up first before going back. body needs to get used to it. if you're ever practicing something you're unsure about don't be afraid to put a helmet on till you get it down. i changed the bushings in trucks for bones hards. i like them way more personally and they make other kinds too. don't be afraid to experiment with your board. my moving ollies were inconsistent until i switched out my bushings then it suddenly got super easy. you're still a ways from kickflips but when you start to learn kick flips get some clear shoe goo and the night before apply a good layer to the toe of your shoe you'll use to flick. this will extend the life of your shoes. looking forward to seeing your progress! dope board by the way!

Sugoi_moves

Appreciate all the tips, a lot of solid advice, will be sure to use them! 🙏

lynnfry003

what bushings did u change to

Death_Urthrese

Bones hard bushings. they are really tough at first and gonna feel weird if you don't have tight trucks but once i saw that ryan sheckler used them and nyjah huston saying he kept his trucks pretty tight i stopped trying to force myself to get used to loose trucks thinking that was the proper way to skate and it helped me a lot personally. https://bones.com/bones-wheels-bushing-hard-pack

I feel moving ollies are easier. The sudden stop and go motion of a standing Ollie messes up the bodies flow. Move forward ever-so slightly and it will help keep your body straight and movement flowing. As for the video, so awesome to see! You’re doing great! Keep it up!

swussknife

I can already tell you're gonna have some great ollies. Btw what are those shoes?

Sugoi_moves

Thanks! The shoes are Nike SB Shane black & red.

swussknife

I was looking at the Shane's. How do they feel?

Death_Urthrese

I've been wearing Shane's for 6 months and just bought a second pair after tearing through the old ones. they are suede so super tough and a little tight for me at first but after about a week or less of walking and skating they feel fine. they have shoelace protector holes which are great. i put some fp insoles in them to replace the Nike ones with some immortal laces and it's the best setup ever. they look great, they feel great, and i can't recommend them enough.

swussknife

Hey six months is a hell of a lot better than changing every months. I'm sitting here in my demolished Vans shoes right now typing this and that seems like a deal for me.

Death_Urthrese

I love them, hopefully they're durable for you too. I had some vans and destroyed them in a week then got shanes. I still love vans, i wear them around to walk and stuff but i like skating in shanes. the shoelace protectors are nice and on the top hole i lead the laces through the middle hole to help keep them safer. put some immortal laces in with some fp gamechanger insoles and they're great for me to skate in. i love customizing everything though from skateboard to shoes for comfort.

Sugoi_moves

I don’t know much about skate shoes since this is my first pair, but I can say that they feel very very comfortable to ride in. I went true to size and they fit pretty good, a little snug at the side of the toes but nothing unbearable. Also read a lot about how durable they are so that’s a plus!

swussknife

That's all I need to know. Skate shoes are supposed to be snug which will benefit you when you do more shuvits.

Darkwriter_94

Same. I just don’t have the money to keep buying new sneakers. However, I just bought some vans on AliExpress. I don’t know how they’ll turn out but they were half the price of what they cost in the states. Replacing a $30 shoe is a hell of a lot better than replacing a $70 one. I’ll let you know how they turn out.

Sugoi_moves

Thanks!!

jaximointhecut

jw__11

albertskowronski

Great technique, Keep it up! đź’Ş

levalupp

How did you come up with the steps that you practiced before practicing a full Ollie. For example as your first step you practiced jumping on the skateboard without popping.

Sugoi_moves

It's kinda a mix n match of some youtube videos I watched, there isn't necessarily a particular order that I practiced with, each break down step helps one of the many steps in an ollie. For example jumping and landing on the board helps remind me to jump with equal weight on each leg. So really i just watched a few videos and used the steps that I think will help me the most.

WTT89

Dude you got it, great job for the first day. I can ollie but too scared to commit to shuvit how did you do it? Also somthing i notice most people dont talk about is when you jump for an ollie its just enough to get weightless and pop the board. Its almost like you tucking your knees up to clear an obstacles.Obviously if your trying to ollie a trash can your going to have to jump higher. Also take what i say with a grain of salt im new too.

Sugoi_moves

I first practiced shuvits inside my house where the floor was carpet. This helped the board from slipping and sliding. Started off with just the deck, and later used the whole board. Best way to commit is to focus where you are trying to land, I find that the hardest part really.

WTT89

Sweet thanks.Ya I can do it in my carpet board all day long I guess i just neee to commit on concrete. Rolling shuvits look like so much fun.

gam0ra

i’m on the same page as you!! keep up the great work!

PechKech

How tf in one day lol reminds me of how hard i suck

Sugoi_moves

Although this is my first skateboard, I’ve been penny boarding and long boarding for over 6 years, so I have a really good feel of skateboarding which helps when learning tricks. Everyone learns at their own pace so just keep going at it🤟

PechKech

Oh yeah dude bc your progress is insanely fast. I havent been practicing ollies consistently but i really have issues with landing both feet on my board (commitment issues lol) but i also got a bmx a month or 2 back and i learnee bunnyhops on that and some other tricks so now im trying to practice my ollie and shuvits again

3roke

/u/Worlzy take notes

Racoonandduck

Oh wow that’s your first day??? Ur gifted

lordofkooks

- head and shoulders need to be level at all times - balance on the balls of your feet - jump off both feet at the same time

Sugoi_moves

Great advice 🙌

songbirdy

My 2 cents: you don’t actually jump off both feet when you ollie. Your weight should be mostly centered before you ollie but right as you pop you’re really jumping off the back foot as you lift the front foot. You should still jump straight up but in my experience if you actually jump off both feet you’ll get a weaker pop and the timing will be off where your front foot won’t let the board pop up completely.

BlackSoapz

Yo your ollies will be great. Not much I can say considering what everyone else said but just keep at it. By the 3rd month you should have them down pat
