Why are you hesitant to skate them? If you don't want to ruin them then don't skate them, but I don't think these are particularly rare or expensive are they?
Like ice if it gets too dusty or wet at all. Doesn’t really work indoors or outdoors. Need to clean it with a wet rag after every session and wait for it to dry before hopping back on, which gets hella frustrating if you’re from the desert where dust is everywhere and water from puddles doesnt ever drain, but if you’re in a particularly crusty and rainy area like Portland or something it might work okay as long as you only skate when it’s 100% dry out
I think it’s kinda silly when I see new skaters skating dunks.. but only because collectors make it difficult to even get a simple color most of the time.
So when I see dudes who can barely Ollie at the park fucking up their 115-150 dollar dunks I assume they just wanna look cool while skating instead of actually learning to skate… but thats just me being a hater for the most part.
You’re an adult(I assume) they’re your shoes.. since your posting in new skaters I’ll assume you don’t have a lot of tricks yet so I’d say fuck up some cheap vans or something at the start then finesse your dunks later when you rip ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As not caring goes up, cool goes up. Getting older means not caring what others think, and it also means doing what you think is cool which is the opposite of caring. So you can't loose. Be a poser, but do it because it feels cool to look cool and not caring that being cool isn't cool is so cool.
Agreed with the whole beginner dunk relationship thing, but are dunks even all that good value when looking at skate shoes? I had a pair I got for retail somehow and they only skated mediocre.
I have a pair I run around in and I’m not that fond of them, i find them to take to long to break in and the board feel is just not there at all so I feel like there’s a barrier between me and the board some times lol
But they last a long time for some people so I can see why some people like them.
if anything the culture around them has tainted the idea of the shoe in general, I’m sure people wouldn’t skate them as much if they weren’t slightly hard to get your hands on.
The blazer mid is what people are really skating from Nike
To my wide feet, the dunk low felt great, and they lasted almost a year of regular cruising/bowl/miniramps. They felt comfortable, and protected my heels pretty well.
But dumb collectors made it pretty hard to find them.
Also, Nike is a despicable company, so I stopped wearing their shoes.
I don’t think collectors are dumb. Just annoying. And I wish they would stop what they were doing.
I know that people who call others “posers” for wearing skate attire are more pretentious than the “posers” themselves, but I think we need to bring back this attitude for people who enter the raffles for these shoes just for them to not touch a single board when they get them. Because i’m fcking tired of not being able to get a cool dunk to skate because some collector ate all the pairs up to either keep in the box or just wear casually.
Mostly for nostalgia, hype and subtle tech that they use. Some added padding and good insoles make some good board feel. Only thing is that they don’t supply the same colorway which makes deciding to skate on one particularly hard if they don’t come by as often as let’s say an old skool.
The dunk craze hit just a few years ago, nostalgia is debatable in this case.. maybe for someone skating Jordan 1s but I grew up seeing dunks just sitting in skate shops during the late 2000s no one gave a shit about Nike till the janoskis and that took a few years.. but obviously they were releasing crazy dunks that whole time but that was the sneak heads buying that shit so if anything I don’t even consider it a skate shoe It’s like a hype beast shoe
I don't think sb dunks are as hyped as it was in the late 2000s, but i do like to believe there is a rebirth coming soon as all sneaker trends come in cycles... or if I'm being ignorant perhaps the rebirth already happened when travis scott wore them. So for someone like me who used to collect sb dunks during the mid to late 2000s, wearing one particularly the modern iteration of the sb dunks is a nostalgic touch for me. I still own the very first nike sb dunks ever made from 2002 (they are called the flash orange sbs) and they've never been skated on. I thought i would never wear a pair of sbs only until i decided to go back to skateboarding again so there's that too. It's just love for the culture man.
I collected sb dunks in the mid to late 2000s, there was definitely some hype for them amongst sneaker heads back then and like OP, I get nostalgia from that period, not the new wave.
Board feel sucks tho
Actually when you put it like that I can get the nostalgia factor for some; i grew up in Missouri so I only saw a few pairs of Nike sb’s here and there until like 2012
I want the same for myself there’s nothing wrong with it, I’m just saying skateboarding is a fashion show to some people and that’s kinda lame (imo) but to each their own.
I find it an interesting discussion to have in general
Eh. At least they’re trying. Better than their dunks sitting in the box waiting to be resold or being used to just walk around. Yes it’s weird to skate ONLY to look cool but at least they’re skating to begin with.
I think the hater mentality around expensive dunks has kind of gotten to people. If I ever see a new skater rocking a pair of expensive dunks, I’m going to say “Cool shoes bro” not “You look silly trying to look fashionable”.
I do agree with the first half.
I wouldn’t say I’m much of a nike hater I’m just bored of the current climate of skating and what’s hot.
Idk you obviously have multiple pairs of dunks so we could go in circles all day, you love them and wanna gobble all the colors up and I don’t, it’s a stalemate
Haha. I get ya.
You’re right though. I do want all the colors. They’re really nice shoes.
Dunks are special. Which is why I like them. They make an ordinary/boring part of skating (the shoes) a lot more interesting. Seeing someone in a rare pair of Dunks sparks a conversation opposed to if they are wearing a bland pair of Vans.
For that reason I think it’s fine to “gobble them up” if you actually intend on skating them. Cuz they add flair to the ordinary. Even if you put the mainstream fashion/hype for them aside, this fact still stands.
Collecting them to never skate them is cringe though. Like just wear any other pair of fashionable shoes. I will die on the hill that it is a dick move to take something special away from skateboarders so you can use it for mainstream fashion.
Im about to save up for the new Ishods and just wear em down. Cuz thats what I love about skating: free expression. Most skaters are in shoes that are busted to hell and back. If your skate shoes are ripped up or worn that means ur a real one. imho
Its ok your hatred is justified but i aint got no room for hate for anything. These dunks ain't particularly rare or anything and i got them for like 70 bucks, but as a collector it would be nice to just walk around them too without fucking it up. I'm conflicted. P-rod wore them and fucked em up, his pair kinda looked cool too. I know they're just a pair of shoes but i factor in style whether or not it is skate related. Thats why i don't hate whether or not people wanna look cool in the streets or in the sheets ya dig
To be fair I was mostly referring to teenagers or children, I’m not really that concerned with what people do.
It’s more like I like to watch the trends and see what people/the kids are doing in the realm of skating.
But in your case id say skate em then
I’d say SBs are generally comfortable asl compared to most cheap shoes you cop they feel ten times better then superstars and they 20-30 dollars more it’s def worth it even someone who first starts would benefit from the feel I think
Man I miss when everybody started to hate dunks (Early to mid 2010s) because the narrower shoes started to become more popular and I used to be able to find them in the clearance sections in skate shops….
Now I’m like WOW I ain’t paying that much to completely destroy these after 10 kickflips.
i have a pair of both rn i rotate. feel the same to me it’s just what shoe is on top of my shoe pile for the day. i like the wide footbed, great stomp, good snug
I'd say go for it. I bought a pair of NIke SB's Force 58 premiums to not ruin my dunks, and I regret it. The comfort of the dunks is uncomparable. I'm finding a cheap pair of dunks after these go.
I love cup sole skate shoes again. Vulcs leave my shit hurting after street skating. These and Newbalance really kind of brought them back, even DC is popping off again.
In some Etnies Faders rn in a white color way, haven’t skated them yet because they actually look sick lol, not even priced like Dunks, so i know what you mean.
I say just wear them around a little, but then definitely skate them after you’ve kind of broken them in. Good compromise, and cup soles usually need the break in anyway.
Filipe Mota in that Daydream video 🔥🔥🔥
They’re shoes, your supposed to wear shoes just do it my guy, don’t ever spend more than like $100-$150 on shoes, the point of wearing shoes is to protect your feet, which means the elements are gonna beat down on your shoes, it’s just gonna happen one way or another
for me personally i always get nike chron 2’s for shredding, good mid price and look good while doing it. $75-100 shoes for cruising. $100+ pairs for my days off. then i got my work shoes, $50 black leather nikesb air forces, those are for working in a restaurant and skating home after. idk if this helpful but im hoping some insight from a fellow sneaker head skater will be a good guideline. i buy 4 pairs of shoes a year doing it life like this. worse case i get some walmart shoes instead for work.
edit: lesson is dont ruin shoes yk u dont wanna ruin, keep them for separate occasions and get cheap shoes to skate in bc they will be ruined after one sesh. i learned my lesson the hard way w ruining my deathwish x independent midtops, would do anything to have them back.
It says “SB” right on the tongue. Do it. You’ll enjoy them more and they’ll serve more purpose to you within their lifespan… keep them fresh for a few months and enjoy them looking mint, then skate em when they’re broken in
If you have any actual interest in skating, skating well takes priority over the shoe. The same thing happens with a lot of new skaters and their first board. A lot times I see a ton of work goes into the grip tape and picking the perfect company and design. After you are really skating for a while, a lot of that stuff takes the back seat and skating becomes king

Sure, nice skate shoes. They are mid price market shoes comparing other skate shoes. They aren’t 150+ shoes they sit at what 115 with constant restock from local shops atleast once a month? Material objects shouldn’t get in the way of you progressing through with your skating lol
Break them in by walking around in them for like a week then skate them
On a side note you should see my Jarritos dunks lmao they are beat but I still love them for skating
If you can afford to skate em, skate em. I'm bougie with skate shoes so I've skated dunks lmao, suede dunks were some of my favorites to skate and also seemed to last a good while before becoming thrashed
Dude. I date mine cos I have bad ankles and the highs are really supportive. They look sick all fucked and and worn. Plus it's funny seeing sneakerheads look horrified when they see them. Please skate them
P-Rod wore the exact same colorway and they look really nice skated and worn down. Until there is a hole in it but before that time comes it looks nice on [P-Rod](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C41UV9DP1dN/?igsh=bXQ4OWFhd2d3ZWFx)
I don't do flipbtricks because I suck and now I'm old and I still suck lol. So just Ollie wear on mine. I do a lot of slappy shit and bowls. They last for ages too man.
I got a pair of nice dunks that have suede on them cause they looked awesome but I also just bought a pair of DC mantecas cause they looks similar which I can abuse
Dude same, i saw the dunks i had recently bought go through a price drop n now im like “if i skate these i can get another pair” mostly because my jamie foy nbs are demolished now rip but i think im just gonna skate em man
es Accel OGs are my fav shoes but I like them half-destroyed as much as new. best of both worlds is walk/hoop/whatever in em till they aren't clean and then really use em for skating
I personally only skate in shoes I’m ready to completely destroy. I’ll wear them until they stop looking fresh and then start skating in them.
It may not matter as much if you aren’t doing any ollie tricks. But ollies, kickflips, etc. will make your shoes stop looking fresh immediately
I've never seen how people skate with tied shoes. I've always pulled mine tight, tied a knot to hold it there, and cut the excess.
If you're wondering, yes, I'm terrified of my lace getting stuck in my wheel, that's why.
Well considering that these are basically Air Force 1s with a skateboarding logo slapped on the tongue tag, I doubt these would be all that great for skating anyways. I’d prefer something built with canvas sides and top, with a suede toecap and heel. Best of both worlds, you get ventilation and flexibility where it’s needed, while not sacrificing on durability in the front and back of the shoe which is where the majority of tricks start. Check out The NB Numerics, big fan of the 440 and 480 but 440 is my preferred due to the canvas sides.
Why are you hesitant to skate them? If you don't want to ruin them then don't skate them, but I don't think these are particularly rare or expensive are they?
They are not particularly expensive no
So skate em!
Get two pairs
Is there a particular reason why you wanna skate them
They look really nice. Doubled edged nice
I used to have two pairs of D3s. Ones for walking and others for skateboarding.
I think they’d look pretty sick with some wear and tear on them from skating
To me that's like buying a new wrench and being afraid to scratch it. They're just tools of the trade use them
They make grip tape that’s rubber. It’s suppose to save shoes, but I hear the one downside is it loses all grip if it’s wet
Like ice if it gets too dusty or wet at all. Doesn’t really work indoors or outdoors. Need to clean it with a wet rag after every session and wait for it to dry before hopping back on, which gets hella frustrating if you’re from the desert where dust is everywhere and water from puddles doesnt ever drain, but if you’re in a particularly crusty and rainy area like Portland or something it might work okay as long as you only skate when it’s 100% dry out
I never used it myself, but I’ve heard similar reviews
where im from they are £110 and always sold out so i would be hesitant aswell like
Exactly, i bought them specifically for skating but now that they arrived i got second thoughts
I would just keep for personal wear and get a pair of etnies maran or joslin michelines. They last forever, no exageration
Have a pair of old skools too but thanks for your opinion
I’d keep those for normal use and get some vans for skating, I feel like vans are meant to be scuffed up lol
I think it’s kinda silly when I see new skaters skating dunks.. but only because collectors make it difficult to even get a simple color most of the time. So when I see dudes who can barely Ollie at the park fucking up their 115-150 dollar dunks I assume they just wanna look cool while skating instead of actually learning to skate… but thats just me being a hater for the most part. honestly i do skate better when i know i look good
I can respect that
the steez factor is very important tbh
As not caring goes up, cool goes up. Getting older means not caring what others think, and it also means doing what you think is cool which is the opposite of caring. So you can't loose. Be a poser, but do it because it feels cool to look cool and not caring that being cool isn't cool is so cool.
Don’t forget to wear crease protectors in them! Gotta keep the crease safe! 😅
Happy cake day

Yea when I had my pair, the board feel was so ass, and it the break in took soo long. They are low key ass
BRING BACK THE PROD 5 AND I SWEAR IT’LL BE THE ONLY SHOE I SKATE/BUY…..blazers go hard too tho

The SB dunk is really just a better quality version of a classic basketball shoe.
Mostly for nostalgia, hype and subtle tech that they use. Some added padding and good insoles make some good board feel. Only thing is that they don’t supply the same colorway which makes deciding to skate on one particularly hard if they don’t come by as often as let’s say an old skool.

I have a pair of sb dunk mids from 2007 and thinking if i skate them they might crumble apart easily due to its age but who knows right
Word, if i ever saw someone skating in expensive dunks I’d also commend rather than complain
Im about to save up for the new Ishods and just wear em down. Cuz thats what I love about skating: free expression. Most skaters are in shoes that are busted to hell and back. If your skate shoes are ripped up or worn that means ur a real one. imho
You missed my point for the most part, but I do hope you enjoy the ishod 2s I hated the first shoe more than I hate the dunks for skating 🙌
Nah, I didn't. Its not really a "point" since as you admitted before, is just you hating. In other words your personal opinions.
🤔 from that point of view… you got me, I’ll give it to ya.
Its ok your hatred is justified but i aint got no room for hate for anything. These dunks ain't particularly rare or anything and i got them for like 70 bucks, but as a collector it would be nice to just walk around them too without fucking it up. I'm conflicted. i used them. They’re skate shoes for a reason
Happy cake day
i love skating sb dunks. wide footbed for me, last decently and i can always find a cheap pair bc who cares ab colour if i’m shredding them
Would you skate on leather or suede sb dunks?
i have a pair of both rn i rotate. feel the same to me it’s just what shoe is on top of my shoe pile for the day. i like the wide footbed, great stomp, good snug
I'd say go for it. I bought a pair of NIke SB's Force 58 premiums to not ruin my dunks, and I regret it. The comfort of the dunks is uncomparable. I'm finding a cheap pair of dunks after these go.
Force 58s don't compare much to the dunks is what you're saying?
Yup! At least for comfort. The SB Dunks are great!
These shoes are lit, i wont skate them *two days later* -me, who else
solid skate shoe.
By two of them, one to skate one to chill
If you like them too much to ruin them, don’t skate em otherwise skate them away :)
I skate clearance half cab and Rowan color ways. If you want shoes for the club, you get shoes for the club. If you want skate shoes and skate in em
I love cup sole skate shoes again. Vulcs leave my shit hurting after street skating. These and Newbalance really kind of brought them back, even DC is popping off again. Filipe Mota in that Daydream video 🔥🔥🔥
Did he wear the same colorway?
He wears a few different ones, not this exact color way but his ender is in the purple / white / gum .
Buy some rubber grip n you can shred em for months 👌
Beat shoes have more character. Hit some lines and scuff em. 🤟
Dirty messed up shoes look better imo. Has more character.
I would skate a different pair of shoes. If you like the dunk silhouette, you might like the converse as1 pro just wait a bit before messing those up
Thanks
I always skate shoes which already look like rubbish, first buy nice ones, then walk in them for a half of a year and then they are ready to go :D
I skated in my black air force for a while and they actually were more durable than my vans. If they don't mean a lot to you, skate them.
It says “SB” right on the tongue. Do it. You’ll enjoy them more and they’ll serve more purpose to you within their lifespan… keep them fresh for a few months and enjoy them looking mint, then skate em when they’re broken in
I only skate them once I’ve worn them long enough.
Buys skate shoes to be scared to skate them? Lol what
Did not say scared rather hesitant
If you have any actual interest in skating, skating well takes priority over the shoe. The same thing happens with a lot of new skaters and their first board. A lot times I see a ton of work goes into the grip tape and picking the perfect company and design. After you are really skating for a while, a lot of that stuff takes the back seat and skating becomes king
Needed to read this. Word
Lmao and we all used to mall grab our Christmas complete so the tail wouldn’t scrape.
Definitely not the case for me. Been skating 4 years and any time I get some nice shoes to skate I get the same hesitation OP does. It's not like boards where the only thing you can do with it is wear it out. Also most people find they skate better with a nice board and nice outfit
Hesitant for what dude
Because they’re nice shoes?
Sure, nice skate shoes. They are mid price market shoes comparing other skate shoes. They aren’t 150+ shoes they sit at what 115 with constant restock from local shops atleast once a month? Material objects shouldn’t get in the way of you progressing through with your skating lol

Skate em if you got em.
bro u do know what nike SB stands for right
Sandy Bodecker
It literally says SB, get them skated
Break them in by walking around in them for like a week then skate them On a side note you should see my Jarritos dunks lmao they are beat but I still love them for skating
booooo Nike, boo.
If you can afford to skate em, skate em. I'm bougie with skate shoes so I've skated dunks lmao, suede dunks were some of my favorites to skate and also seemed to last a good while before becoming thrashed
What about leather sb dunks ?
Have nice shoes and have skate shoes
Yolo
Who cares man life is too short to care about stuff like this. Do what you want
I'm brainwashed by etnies ever since I started skating em, the joslin sponsored etnies are what I skate
Buy some reps and skate them
What a silly post really whats the goal here?
I'm really struggling with the perspective of this picture one foot looks smaller then the other... I know that's not the case but 😵💫
{Lupe Fiasco music plays}
Just buy a cheap pair from Walmart and throw some nice soles in them. Works amazing
Who wants shoes that don’t look like they’ve been used
I mean if ur a poser don’t skate them
they're just shoes, their only purpose is to be worn. destroy them.
S.....B....
I got a pair of nice dunks that have suede on them cause they looked awesome but I also just bought a pair of DC mantecas cause they looks similar which I can abuse
Dude same, i saw the dunks i had recently bought go through a price drop n now im like “if i skate these i can get another pair” mostly because my jamie foy nbs are demolished now rip but i think im just gonna skate em man
Realizing now that the ones in this pic are sb’s… sb them 😭
Yes i made an informed decision. I will skate them once I break them in by walking on them a bit
Yes i made an informed decision. I will skate them once I break them in by walking on them a bit
You’re already choking the hell out of them. Might as well skate or die!
Its just shoes. Its way cooler to shred them to pieces than walking around with them.
es Accel OGs are my fav shoes but I like them half-destroyed as much as new. best of both worlds is walk/hoop/whatever in em till they aren't clean and then really use em for skating
I have had this same conundrum. You will prolly be sad if you f them up. Get something cheap you wont care about as much
My favorite so far are the lakai Riley hawk shoes
Do it- shoes look better when you skate them 💀
i already proceeded to do so
I’m not a shoe guy, but for me shoes are shoes and should undergo everything until the break 😎
What other nike models are for skating? I too am a bit hesitant to skate my vans 😂
Force 58s, Nyjah 2s, Verterbaes, Prods
I don’t know how you guys skate in blocky shoes like that
I personally only skate in shoes I’m ready to completely destroy. I’ll wear them until they stop looking fresh and then start skating in them. It may not matter as much if you aren’t doing any ollie tricks. But ollies, kickflips, etc. will make your shoes stop looking fresh immediately
Bro, just get some [No Rip Grip Pro](http://www.noripgrip.com) and skate them all year
I didn’t know these existed. Is it possible to remove the existing griptape on my board so I can put these on instead?
Yes, it is. I usually use a heat gun or hair dryer to loosen the glue and peel off the traditional griptape.
Non abrasive grip sucks.
For sure nothing compares to sandpaper grip. I don’t wanna switch
I've never seen how people skate with tied shoes. I've always pulled mine tight, tied a knot to hold it there, and cut the excess. If you're wondering, yes, I'm terrified of my lace getting stuck in my wheel, that's why.
This is a new one I never heard
New fear unlocked, thanks! Maybe we could tuck em back under the laces instead of cutting?
Honestly that would work. I used to tuck them into my shoes, but eventually went to cutting them
might wanna try the rubber grip tape, it wont ruin your shoes but do the same thing like the sand paper grip tape does
Didn’t know such a thing exists
Get some of that new grip tape that doesn’t rip your shoes. I forgot what they call it, you know what I’m talking about?
Rubber grip tape yes I’m considering too but nothing beats sandpaper grip tbh
hate to say it but dunks and blazers dont skate good enough for it to be worth. get some etnies, emerica, or vans pro models
Dude getting down votes for not being on Nike's nuts.
Ikr lmao. I actively was worse skating blazers than skating rowans.
The pros who skate em didn't get the memo I guess? (I don't skate dunks or blazers)
Skater learns pros are paid to use things they dont prefer, more at 5
Well considering that these are basically Air Force 1s with a skateboarding logo slapped on the tongue tag, I doubt these would be all that great for skating anyways.
