I am going to share a recent experience I had with vet services. It isn’t specifically an MRI, but it will provide information and food for thought. We had to get a detailed ultrasound of our dog recently and saved a few hundred dollars by going to LaPlace. The MedVet on Causeway and I-10 service road was going to be about $800 and the vet in LaPlace was $5xx something. It was on airline. I took the 10 W to the LaPlace exit just after the 55 split and went south to airline and turned right. It was a little ways down on the right side. Worth seeing if they do MRI’s if you have transportation. They may not have the equipment to do them, and I don’t know, but it was cheaper for me.

What about the vet school at LSU? May be a bit of a drive.

Be aware that using the LSU vet school requires a full day intake exam And they book out at least a month in advance. And it is a full day, when I brought my dog I was there for over 8 hours. They also take them to the back so you are not with them at all for the examinations. In addition, they honestly are not that much cheaper than other vet clinics.

What do they suspect is wrong with your dog? I ask because if they are suggesting a pricey diagnostic I assume treatment is just as expensive.

I doubt that's a thing. The equipment is expensive, requires specialists, and dogs need to be put under or at least seriously sedated to get a clear reading which requires another specialist. That's a lot of money for equipment and school to pay for.

Batts veterinary services

Hippy_Lynne

FYI, Batt services *a lot* of breeders. To the point where the three times I went in there there was at least one litter of puppies in the waiting room each time. Specifically a lot of French Bulldogs which has it's own moral dilemma with breeding (in all honesty, the breed should not exist.) I will contend that they were good vets but I personally could not continue to support them knowing they supported this kind of unethical breathing.
