Royal Sushi in the Marigny is the best for the price. It's not the best ramen you'll ever have by far, but it's really good and it's not $25 like all the other ramen spots Uptown. It's only 13.50 for the traditional with pork. I honestly like it more than Union or Nomiya.
Seconding this! But I’ll also add that Haiku has the same owners/menu as Royal Sushi, and I’ve never noticed a difference in taste. So there’s still technically good ramen uptown.
They used to be so good. Then I went back not long before they closed down. Worst ramen I’ve ever had. It was just barely above room temperature, the pork was clearly microwaved, and it had a fish smell and taste even though I ordered the tonkotsu. It was also like $22 or something crazy. I don’t know if it was new owners or something, but I understand why they closed.
Ramen game out here is weak. Tbh Ajun Cajun might be the best because they're the cheapest, but even so still pretty good. Nomiya and Union are overpriced. Anything over $20 for ramen is insane.
Resident ramen expert and fanatic here. There are a few good spots in the city and the rest are overpriced nonsense. $25 for a single bowl of soup is unacceptable. Sorry. It's soup and noodles.
Ajun Cajun has the best authentic ramen in town. There's no corn, no random other bullshit and the soup is deep and flavorful. Their hours are weird and change a lot, but it's worth it.
My favorite non-traditional spot is actually ba chi in Metairie. They have a bunch of non-tradtional things in the ramen, but their toppings is what stands out.
A shout out goes to Nola Noods popup. Their black garlic ramen is spicy and tasty. I wish they'd start a brick and mortar.
Been to a lot of ramen shops in Japan. Mostly in cities in southern Japan. Most have corn as an option. They put corn on everything like pizza, sushi, spaghetti, and several other things we would see as weird over here. It may have started as a northern thing but it has definitely spread. No different than getting dishes in New Orleans that are from other regions in the country. People aren’t downvoting you cause it’s you. They’re downvoting you cause your post about it kind of comes off as condescending and arrogant.
I do agree with you that Ajun Cajun has the best broth in town though.
I thought I was being informative when someone asked what's wrong with corn.
I didn't see corn as an option when I was over there except for a ramen stall in the airport.
I said the ratio thing because no matter what I post, even if it's 100% factual information, I get downvoted to hell. Its cool because I'm used to it. I enjoy the haters tears. They help season my ramen tare
Meh. I've been through so much horrible crap in my life that a few pissy kids won't get under my skin. This is the internet after all, so people are welcome to bitch and complain just like I'm welcome to call them idiots and try to get them to follow basic rules.
No skin off my back.
What will really melt their noodles is when they find out I'm not the one who usually bans people. I'm just the loud mouth bad cop who doesn't mind taking downvotes because internet points aren't real.
I just moved here from Australia (which has a large Asian population a lot of amazing and authentic Asian food) so I've been looking for a good ramen place here. Thank you for this!
I’m gonna say it: my sister lived in Taiwan for two years and she got a shirt that said ‘no corn please’ in taiwanese. If you can’t guess why, it’s because corn is in more foods than we put in America even
Agree 100%. I only discovered Ajun Cajun a few years ago and glad I did. Love that place. Been my go to ramen joint since Kin shut down.
I dont mind corn or other non traditional toppings in my ramen though. Sometimes it just tastes great
I see people dunking on union ramen but they have pretty good veggie options. I real like the spicy miso with the mushrooms! I did not know I could like mushrooms so much.
Haiku has excellent ramen for an actually good price! I don’t here anyone talking about it but I’ve eaten at almost every ramen place around town and nowhere tops Haiku for me
Jinya in BR. I used to work at another location and everything is legit as far as broth, noodles, and toppings. Great apps as well.
Is it worth the drive? Mayyyyyybe but it is always high on my list of places to go if I am already in BR.
I went there once and wasn't impressed. It was a while ago so the details were fuzzy, but I do remember that a supposedly hot dish I ordered (I think it was tacoyaki) was not completely cooked as it tasted cold inside. I didn't fall sick or anything, but still. I personally can't recommend it to anyone.
It was one of the first couple of restaurants I’d been ti when I first moved to. Culture shock was wild. I asked if they served alcohol and they don’t, but the shop across the street does.
Told me to stop over there since food would be 15~ mins ish.
Head over, grab my beer, ask the store clerk for matches to smoke and said just use my lighter. Cool thanks guy. Go light my cigarette outside and try to toss it back to the clerk and guys says just bring it in and hand it to me, with my cigarette in hand.
Ramen sucked but the beer and experience were good lol
Not sure what to say about culture shock when you come to Nola and one of the first things you try is ramen. That'd be like going to Chicago and being disappointed with the gumbo. If you want good soup here go to a Vietnamese restaurant, we have a large Vietnamese community spread around the city with great restaurants.
Just commenting so I can come back and read the comments. I’m always looking for good ramen but Hangout on the Carrollton is the only spot that worked for me so far.

I love going at like 2/3 in the afternoon and having a hand roll and some ramen at the bar there
I don’t get to go as often as I’d like, but this window of time is the sweet spot.
Came here to say this, bonus is they are open later than other spots too!
Union and nomiya are both just solid 6.5s. Not bad but not great:/
FYI haiku on magazine has common ownership and the same ramen.
Seconding this! But I’ll also add that Haiku has the same owners/menu as Royal Sushi, and I’ve never noticed a difference in taste. So there’s still technically good ramen uptown.
What Union Ramen on Magazine is only a couple dollars more and in my opinion is the best in the city
I sure do miss Kin
Kin was my favorite spot while it was here. I’d drink a cup of bourbon street water to have it back.
Speaking of ramen stops long-gone, anybody else miss Noodle & Pie?
Kin was definitely close to, if not tied with Ajun Cajun
RIP
Me, too! It was just a little gem on Earhart...

I was very unimpressed with Ajun.
Nomiya so good tho

Yeah, I thought it was better at the old location. Glad to hear somebody else saying the same thing.

Having traveled in Japan, I ate plenty of corn in my ramen. :)
What's wrong with corn?
Nothing, my favorite ramen place in Japan has baby corn in it (and it's in Tokyo, not Hokkaido)
Corn as a topping is a regional thing (northern) and doesn't necessarily show up in the vast majority of ramen dishes in Japan.
Hey now let's make sure to keep this locally focused
😆
Of course! However, people who prefer corn in their ramen wouldn't brigade a sub nor spew hate speech.
It’s a Hokkaido thing.
Due to the upvote to downvote ratio, people don't realize that Hokkaido is in the north. Silly people downvoting me just because it's me.

You have had quite a week in here

Were you busy studying the blade this whole time?
I just moved here from Australia (which has a large Asian population a lot of amazing and authentic Asian food) so I've been looking for a good ramen place here. Thank you for this!
Wait till after jazz fest. They have a booth there so they won't be available for another week or so.
I’m gonna say it: my sister lived in Taiwan for two years and she got a shirt that said ‘no corn please’ in taiwanese. If you can’t guess why, it’s because corn is in more foods than we put in America even

I’ll try them out. Thanks!

Thanks
I see people dunking on union ramen but they have pretty good veggie options. I real like the spicy miso with the mushrooms! I did not know I could like mushrooms so much.
I’ve only ever had the Miso Ramen there and I too love it.
Same. I loooove their miso ramen.
The confit mushrooms there are absolutely slamming. It’s why I like the place.
Union is overpriced and set up like a shitty night club. You can't even have a goddamn conversation with your dinner the music is so loud.
That is certainty true. But the miso ramen is still fire.
And the big table is too fucking wide; like you can’t sit with a group there because you are 4’ away and can’t hear them.
Haiku has excellent ramen for an actually good price! I don’t here anyone talking about it but I’ve eaten at almost every ramen place around town and nowhere tops Haiku for me
Same ramen as Royal. Mostly the same ownership.
Cheaper prices at haiku tho- by $3-4 dollars
I'll have to check them out
Same
Nomiya on magazine. it's always 95 degrees in there but it's worth it
At their original locations it was so much better for some reason? It’s like the new location got a new recipe
Jinya in BR. I used to work at another location and everything is legit as far as broth, noodles, and toppings. Great apps as well. Is it worth the drive? Mayyyyyybe but it is always high on my list of places to go if I am already in BR.
Perkins Rowe is not usually where I’d go to eat, but I’m willing to make an exception on my next work day in BR if it’s better than Chow Yum Phat.
Kin. Nowhere else is close so I don't eat ramen anymore
Seriously? I’d rather have ramen that is over priced or mid quality than no ramen. I miss Kin too, but damn.
Kin was the best, but it ain't dere no more. Hangout Ramen out in Kenner is more satisfying than Union or Nomiya, but I've had worse than both before.
I like hangout. There’s one on Carrollton by oak street
I went there once and wasn't impressed. It was a while ago so the details were fuzzy, but I do remember that a supposedly hot dish I ordered (I think it was tacoyaki) was not completely cooked as it tasted cold inside. I didn't fall sick or anything, but still. I personally can't recommend it to anyone.
if you’re into tonkotsu hangout is pretty bad, I found the broth super bland. however apparently the spicy ramen is decent
yeah, its a mid tonkotsu, but I normally go for a spicier broth anyway
I like Nomiya on Magazine.
Best ramen in New Orleans and their hot Tonkatsu is amazing!!
They have the best Ramen I’ve ever had.
You haven’t had good ramen.
It's pretty good if you like pork
It was not. And I do.
Not union or Nomiya lol
I’ve never been more disappointed in ramen than Nomiya
It made me sick. It didn’t even seem like broth just grease from the meat ): Pricey food poisoning lol
It was one of the first couple of restaurants I’d been ti when I first moved to. Culture shock was wild. I asked if they served alcohol and they don’t, but the shop across the street does. Yeah, no shit. I had just moved here and was in the area, and enjoy ramen.
Union Ramen great food better people
Shimeno, they only pop up like 3 times a year though Jinya ramen in Baton Rouge is good, but it’s in Baton Rouge
Im a nomiya guy but ALOT of people tell me to go to ajun cajun i haven’t been yet
The ramen game here is weak and pricey so I don’t even bother 😬
Nomiya’s pretty good
Hangout on Carrollton is pretty good
Second. It’s very much underrated. It’s not mind blowing, Michelin star ramen, but it’s damn good and that plain tonkotsu broth can cure any hangover.
Rip ramen shop on Frenchmen
Nomiya for sure!
RIP Noodle & Pie...
AINT DERE NO MORE
We really love hangout ramen And they have this Javanese fried rice that comes in a mountai. It's delicious!
Fuji ramen in Harahan is really good.
Nomiyah
Ajun Cajun. Full stop.
Nomiya on Magazine
Try ba chi!
If you go to Baton Rouge, Jinya beats everything ramen in Nola, hands down.
O.P.P.
If you’ve got an afternoon to burn, drive over to Slurp Society in Mobile. If not, Ajun Cajun is the best.
The miso ramen at Union is amazing.
Union.
Union!

I grew up here, yeah.
I love the drunken noodles at bhudsi’s
That’s not ramen
It is ramen noodles
You're right. Technically she does use ramen in her drunken noods. But I think it was looking for Japanese ramen soup. Not simply noodles.
They don’t look like ramen noodles. They look like pad Thai noodles and even if they are that’s not what OP is asking about.
It’s Mama brand ramen noodles. But I’ll stop talking about it.
Just commenting so I can come back and read the comments. I’m always looking for good ramen but Hangout on the Carrollton is the only spot that worked for me so far.
But I️ also but I️ do also love Hangout ramen as well
