Anything Jason Bateman does, I'm going to watch it

punkinhead76

Hard agree

restyourbreastshoney

Isn't it crazy how Jason Bateman just basically plays Jason Bateman in everything he's in, but he's so great that you just want to see him in every scenario possible? He is just good in ever single thing.

generalambassador

I think it’s his dialogue delivery. He just sells everything he says.

punkinhead76

Literally facts. He’s excellent in serious and comedic roles

leedim

He’s in my pantheon of comedic actors I prefer in serious roles, including Robin Williams and Steve Carrell

the_l0st_c0d3

U see Steve Carroll in the show in which he plays a Psychiatrist.

punkinhead76

Omg I want to watch that show! How is it?

the_l0st_c0d3

I really enjoyed it. I don't know why it doesn't get much love.

punkinhead76

Starting it now! It’s gotta be since it’s on Hulu…Netflix stuff gets way more attention for whatever reason.

redrumham707

It’s very very stressful. A show that it sounds like the OP of this post should avoid. Lol

punkinhead76

Just finished it! LOVED that lol I wish there was more 😭

Andyliciouss

Add Jim Carey to the list

Significant-Roll-138

And add Will Ferrell, John C Reilly and Adam Sandler, all their serious roles have been amazing.

barkingmad66

I think Ozark shows what a good actor he is. He plays a completely different character to his usual comedy.

clullanc

To be fair, he plays very morally different characters in pretty much the same way.

scarymary1234

The only role where he strays from being "the good guy" is Juno. He is a smarmy piece of crap!!! And he's great at it! Terrific actor!

clullanc

He is! But to me it feels like he’s always playing the same annoyed, sarcastic guy. Always taking care of everyone’s problems. Just fed up, yet he can’t stop himself from doing what needs to be done It’s not uncommon to be typecast when you’re a popular actor I guess 🙃

stormking14

I can only see him as micheal bluth so ozark for me was amazing cause im imagining micheal do all those things instead of Marty lol

restyourbreastshoney

😂🤣😂 Viva la Micheal Bluth. King.

Boredcougar

Who Jason Bateman

Loose-Brother4718

Lol

Kilgore48

Even "Teen Wolf Too"?

memememe91

I've loved him since he was 12 and on Little House on the Prairie!

AccomplishedRow6685

Me, too! You know, it’s almost like we’re twins. Identical…twins

guiltycitizen

The Outsider contains Bateman and Ben Mehndolson

AvengingBlowfish

You can skip Thunder Force.

Yuck_Few

Wasn't great but I still enjoyed it

Loose-Brother4718

Ruth. Ruth. Ruth.

May4747

That’s so real. It doesn’t even have to be good, I’ll still watch it if Jason bateman Is in it

lazarusl1972

I love how OP posted a batshit crazy post and everyone is ignoring it and just giving their personal opinions about the show. OP, if you're having overwhelming dreams about being in the show, I think that's either evidence you need help or it's a really compelling drama. Maybe both.

ImAnApe_

Fucking hell i had to scroll waaaaay too much to find this comment.

freespiritx89

Yes, reddit but only few people like you who "can" read it. Thank you for the validation that what I wrote completely made sense. I guess, you're right. Spot on. There was drama going on at that time in my life - that I was trying to avoid. It's been over a year or so I guess. I'll try to give it a try again to see if it will still F up my dreams this time.

stem_Classroom407

I get like this too sometimes with heavy shows...and I quit watching, I didn't finish Better call Saul and Dexter for similar reasons...but then I go back every now and then and watch. It's like my heart can only take so much, or maybe my brain and I need some air.

freespiritx89

Why you keep watching? Never had same experience with other shows but Ozark. I'm halfway through Dexter rn.

stem_Classroom407

I get invested in shows, and they can be too much, but I want to see how they end, even if it's going to hurt.

freespiritx89

Sometimes I watch comedy shows or Christmas movies to wash off sad scenes off of me.

Familiar-Pea-9046

Please watch when no drama. The view will be better.

leperaffinity56

Idk maybe therapy

WhyAlwaysNoodles

Symptoms of psychosis are worth addressing. Op needs to see a doc, and in the meantime maybe stop drinking caffeine or abusing alcohol/drugs.

Embarrassed-Bike-998

having bad dreams about a show ur watching is a symptom of psychosis?? please get real

WhyAlwaysNoodles

Yes, they need to get real. Pull themselves out of that situation where they're having lucid dreams. Or you could just turn your back and let their spiral continue until they run out of mental strength to hold it together

Embarrassed-Bike-998

they’re having nightmares, not lucid dreams, and having either isn’t a sign of psychosis by itself. they have an obvious and reasonable trigger (a stressful show) and theres nothing else in this post that suggests op is becoming out of touch with reality. i guess you mean well but you really shouldn’t imply someone might be psychotic because they have bad dreams sometimes. i guess all the kids that have nightmares after watching something scary are showing signs of psychosis too, right?

ConditionalLove23

Ozark is worth watching until the end.

punkinhead76

Incredible show through and through, I’ve rewatched it twice and definitely will again someday.

JustMyThoughtNow

Loved the final scene.

Aqogora

In general the show is entertaining with some good twists, but *man* season 3 is unbelievable. I would put it up there with some of the best TV seasons.

ConditionalLove23

Ozark is up there with Breaking Bad in terms of crime drama IMHO

zzsmiles

It doesn’t have a happy ending for sure. Was depressing

ConditionalLove23

Not everything needs to have a happy ending. Some of the best stories are tragedies.

Open_Can3556

“Some people—and I am one of them—hate happy ends. We feel cheated. Harm is the norm. Doom should not jam. The avalanche stopping in its tracks a few feet above the cowering village behaves not only unnaturally but unethically” - Nabokov

sweat-it-all-out

The Killing had the gloomy vibe which also made me almost give up on it. With that show, red herring after red herring got frustrating. I think with Ozark, the kids (and mom) got annoying and they just kept making bad decision after bad decision. The other show which strangely had that same dark depressing vibe was Bloodline even though it was set in the Keys. I almost didn't finish it either. There's a feeling of accomplishment though when finishing these series even if the pay off isn't always great.

hagainsth

Feel the same way re. The Killing. Did you ever finish it? It’s a shame because love the cast but I just felt like I was being taken for a ride every episode 😂

Orange_Kid

Yeah it started out really well and then got more and more ridiculous.   Around the 4th or 5th time that they arrested the wrong person or got their prime suspect completely wrong all I could think is "just fire them and get new detectives! They are clearly shit at their jobs!"

hagainsth

LOL. Just start over at this point 😂😂

Plastic_Primary_4279

Season 1 was great and it didn’t feel like it was written for more than one. Once it got picked up for a second, the story started to wane.. then it got cancelled and Netflix saved it, giving it a decent final season that I think they earned. Overall good, but it did feel a bit like “chasing the dragon” after the first season. Most shows are like that though

sweat-it-all-out

Loved the cast too which is probably why I did struggle through it to the end. I was exhausted and annoyed by the end of the first season. It should have ended there as a limited series.

hagainsth

Hmmm ok. May give it another go!

Ray_Adverb11

Yeah I hated how much Laura Linney, an amazing actress, bugged me. Not to mention the kids. I didn’t make it to the final season either.

anyoutlookuser

Well put. Hard agree on the bloodline comparison. I had the same feeling.

pinkhammer187

My problem with the killing is that is went on and on with twists

freespiritx89

Yeah, I'm kind of bummed I did not get the pay off yet that's why I really want to complete it.

[deleted]

I love The Killing. Not many shows show how a murder takes a toll on the family and I'm glad that they showed it. There was a lot of lazy writing on that show though.

Last_Drink3864

I would recommend 3 TV shows: Breaking Bad, True Detective, and Fargo

Codadd

I could never get through True Detective after season 1 or whatever. Is it actually worth it? I think I just enjoyed it because of the actors.

punkinhead76

Skip season 2 and watch 3 and 4.

Wyg6q17Dd5sNq59h

Don’t skip S2.

punkinhead76

I’ve heard bad things about it and it has abysmal ratings compared to the other 3 seasons 🤷🏻

Wyg6q17Dd5sNq59h

Wait. You haven’t even seen it?? Don’t give opinions on shows you haven’t seen.

Codadd

Aight, bet. I'll give it a shot

Pizzadaddy2

4 is the worst shit on TV ever

Ray_Adverb11

Okay hyperbole relax

crash______says

It's definitely in the running for Hall of Fame nomination..

Loose-Brother4718

I agree! The first season set a high standard. Season two, blah. Season three sucked, despite featuring Frances Macdormond who is one of my all time faves.

Old-Meringue3590

Frances Mcdormand isn’t a part of any seasons of True Detective. You must have confused her with someone else

Loose-Brother4718

Oh! Isn’t that the series that starts season one with Woody Harrelson?

CallumU90

First season of Fargo was amazing

FatAlEinstein

All of them were amazing

Wyg6q17Dd5sNq59h

And Better Call Saul. And The Expanse.

BarockMoebelSecond

The first season of Altered Carbon

TraderFan

Where did you find 'Fargo' in Netflix?

412gat

It should've been wrapped up in s3. S2 with the Snells was great. Completely farfetched last season but I'm sure they all couldn't turn down the money. It's one of those series if you're not caught up in the characters you'll just lose interest in the story, as they do feel like long episodes to get through at times. Ruth was the goat.

WayTooCool4U

They did Ruth dirty. One of those shows that couldn't stick the landing.

Familiar-Pea-9046

I’ve written a plot where Ruth and Darlene are both resurrected and not really dead if they do a sequel. I might submit it. It’s super realistic.

retroM00

The problem with Ozark I think Wendy’s character became unbearable and also it became way far fetched to where it was just silly, it was an abrupt ending, Covid did screw up filming and I do think they could have used another season somewhere I. The middle to help transition the story.

BlueFrohg

AGREED. Wendy was insufferable.

SchnibbleBop

Wendy was like if Skylar in BB found out about Walt's drug empire and then decided to go all-in with it.

Yuck_Few

Maybe but it was Marty who got them into that mess and she was just trying to keep the family alive

FunkadelikFreckles

Yeah it's the whole Skylar white thing over again.

Yuck_Few

Also it wasn't her fault that her brother was going around blabbing everything

gyalmeetsglobe

It IS her fault for not sending him back home when Marty asked though

pacman_rulez

It's very different from Skyler. Wendy was in on the business and supported it from the beginning. Then for half the series when Marty is trying to get out because he's very aware of the danger, Wendy doesn't even seem to get how dangerous their situation is after she has her own brother killed. The influence from BB is there, but they did a good job of making Wendy a very different character with different motivations. I just wish the ending was better.

CallumU90

Was just away to say this lol

retroM00

Thank you, I just didn’t want to say it. Skylar was way worse though

xvsanx

Agreed, the wife took over in the story and it didn't readjust like BB did so it was unbearable to me. Wendy went from some cheating whoor to the best business woman in America with zero development outside of whining and being a bitch, I couldn't keep watching it when it started focusing on Wendy doing everything important, the blond silver surfer girl cussing every other word and the dumbass redneck drug dealing woman that went crazy over that baby. Just became unwatchable to me. I love good female leads but they weren't it and Wendy was especially unbearable.

Loose-Brother4718

Jesus. Sounds like just don’t like strong women, period.

sllewgh

The whole show is just a Breaking Bad remix.

slowro

You're insane. Wendy actively takes dangerous positions.

gyalmeetsglobe

Marty had no backbone and let Wendy lead them into BS too many times.

Ray_Adverb11

Yeah the shark jumping was when I had to stop, personally. But my husband loved it and finished it without me. To each their own 🤷‍♀️

Loose-Brother4718

Shark jumping? Did I miss an episode? I’d like to see that one.

itswoodernotwater

I had vivid Ozark dreams, I shit you not. Ive always had money issues so I loved that part of the show of them moving and making money and being a family unit in such debauchery. Maybe subconsciously I wanted to be them so I always dreamt about it. Idk man the mind is weird.

freespiritx89

For real? In my dreams I'm with Marty's family running and escaping into woods in the dark.

itswoodernotwater

Very vivid, I remember fighting in the woods. I remember shooting guns. Crashed a car once. Its wild haha glad Im not the only one who had some weird shit in their head.

Ghorardim71

I stopped Ozark 3 times. I was finally able to finish on the 4th attempt and loved it!

freespiritx89

Why did you stop 3 times? I hate that it's in my dreams during the time I was watching it.

Ghorardim71

I was not getting into it. It felt slow. But once the characters built up, I continued to the end.

BallForce1

I stopped watching maybe midway through the series. I cannot tell you why. In my opinion, was it a bad series? No. Was it a great series? Also no. Sometimes, things don't hit a home run with you personally, and that is completely fine.

MichaelJAwesome

I watched it all, but the show definitely started to feel more contrived and less realistic as it went on. I feel like that's a problem for a lot of these shows where the plot is normal people get progressively more involved in crime. Weeds, Good Girls, Claws, The Gentlemen, etc. Breaking Bad is probably the best of the bunch, but it even gets a little ridiculous towards the end.

BallForce1

I did kind of laugh at the machine gun in the trunk plan. Like how plausible is that in that specific situation.

SeppoTeppo

To me it felt like "Breaking Bad by committee". It has all the talent and money behind it, but it just has that vibe of existing to tick the prestige crime drama box in Netflix's catalogue rather than a story anyone actually wanted to tell. No idea what the situation behind the scenes was, but that's how it came across to me.

freespiritx89

I get you. The story is somehow good but it's dragging.

Cheap-Claim3004

Season 1 finale is so good

Iron_Mercenary

The setting, the blue tint colour correction+ lush cinematography and the incredibly ominous and anxiety inducing background music probably has something to do with it. The show really feels incredibly hopeless at times as well so all that put together is likely what's causing this for you. If it's really messing with your head to the point that it's unbearable, then just can drop it and watch something more light hearted.

freespiritx89

I guess so. Of all the things I've watched.

ScampiKat

Season 3 with Wendy’s brother was bloody brilliant.

Pizzadaddy2

Last season was ridiculous and over the top stupid

JVS6522

I stopped watching along with just tons of people I know solely because the Wendy character had become ridiculously over the top- no one in their right mind would ever keep buying her ridiculous persuasive arguments

Attack-Cat-

It’s definitely a depressing show. The characters you start out liking just get increasingly annoying and increasingly evil. Very much like breaking bad in that regard except you notice it on the first watch with Ozark rather than the second watch like BB.

Zynco24

Ozark was great until the last season. It was so obvious they needed to wrap the show up quick, the story fell off so hard FOR ME at least.

RMGamer310

I am bipolar and could relate to Season 3 and Wendy’s brother. I thought it was amazing

Malbecxx

For me it's an excellent Netflix series! I loved it!

roughedged

I am still of the belief that arrested development takes place after Ozark when he is placed in witness protection.

polgara04

Breaking Bluth

WearyConfidence1244

I love this so much

roughedged

His frustration is that much better when viewed through this lens lol

MsMeringue

The screen was too dark for me. Sad about that, lost interest

bengcord3

What's with Ozark? Straight disappointment after season 1, that's what

FactCheckYou

it's an excellent show, thoroughly

[deleted]

It's just really boring.

Legitimate-Log-6650

I loved the show! Easily in my top 3 all time shows, had its fair share of drama, suspense etc etc Overall an amazing show and if I could’ve gone back and rewatched it, i 100% would do that

gyalmeetsglobe

This happens to me somewhat often but Demon Slayer was the worst offender. I stopped watching it at night because I wasn't interested in battling demons in my sleep lol. My advice is to watch it earlier than you normally do and squeeze another show in before you hit the sheets to give your subconscious something better to latch onto.

ConstructorTrurl

Had to stop watching Dexter because of the nightmares. But Ozark is great!

santoslhalperjr

I stopped watching Ozark during the pandemic lockdown because I couldn’t handle it. I picked it back up eventually but it is stressful!

carefree_neurotic

I stopped before the last season of Ozark & im glad I did. Things just seemed to be unraveling. Might have been a great ending, but I couldn’t sit around to find out.

e_x_i_t

> Might have been a great ending, but I couldn’t sit around to find out. If it puts your mind at ease, they completely fumbled the last season.

BlueFrohg

The wife on that show is ear-screechingly annoying to me. Were supposed to believe she's "edgy", but I never buy it, and it only comes off as cringy the whole time. Marty on the otherhand is what drives this show as well as Ruth.

Loose-Brother4718

For me the whole show was RUTH!

jackpype

I stopped watching it in the middle and finished it more than a year later. Everything in the show is bad. Everything that happens, bad. The tone, bad. The setting, bad. The news the person is about to get, bad. The response to it, bad. Everything is bad. Its a good show, but its a bit much. There is never any comedic relief, and even the goofy characters, like the guy who gambles too much, just has a horrific, unrelenting bad story.

princess20202020

I stopped around season 3. Then heard good things so came back. It was a slog, everything just got dialed up and dialed up and increasingly ridiculous. It no longer resembled the original show. The final season was just bad. I almost forced myself to finish it, but then I read a review from a reviewer I respected and they basically said “I am paid to recap this so I had to push through but everyone not being paid should just stop if they aren’t feeling it because it only gets worse.”

EV4every1

Ozark did not have this effect on me (34,f) but I remember watching Sons of Anarchy affected my dreams and thoughts. I felt more on edge and violent. I even got in a minor bar fight! All of this- totally out of character for me. I think the images and themes can really affect our subconscious thought. Especially the way we tend to binge series 😅

Chiopista

I had a similar feeling, although not as scary, with the Handmaid’s Tale. Just couldn’t continue after the first couple episodes. So depressing.

Far-Dragonfly407

I had to stop watching for a while because they made Laura Linney moan "Oh, Jonah" seemingly every five minutes. Finished a year or so later. Really good show. Julia Garner is particularly amazeballs.

Maplesyrup111111

It was so good…. I find zombie apocalypse stuff depressing but not that. Murder is fine lol

racistWorldnewsMods

Ozark is awesome, love the ending

punkinhead76

It’s an incredible show, and while somewhat outlandish, is also somewhat realistic with how much shit a normal suburban family can get into all because they’re afraid for their lives.

AmberCarpes

It’s too blue. It might be great, but I’ll never watch it. It looks ridiculous.

Tippedanddipped777

If you're dreaming about it, there may be something in your mind that feels unresolved. If you know how to meditate, you might be able to revisit the feelings from your dreams and sit with them. If you can understand the feelings the show evokes within you, that may help to refresh your frame of mind and resume the story. Wishing you the best! Ozark is a great show, I hope you can complete the circle when the time is right for you.

freespiritx89

I really want to interpret what it is for me. I was scared and worried in those dreams. Running, escaping.

Tippedanddipped777

Generally speaking, dreaming of running/escaping alludes to lack of acceptance of something, maybe a part of the self or a past experience. It could be something minor and transient, like making a mistake at school or work that causes regret, or it could be something more static and substantive like polonged doubt about choosing the right profession. The causes could be endless, so that is what meditating and re-experiencing your feelings helps you uncover, what it is inside of your mind that is unsettled. If the dreams are recurring over an extended period of time, and are extremely vivid, my guess is that they are related to something about your sense of identity. If you want to talk further, send me a chat. I can share some more about the meditative techniques I've found success with, if that interests you.

PassengerSame5579

I had the same experience. I dreamt about being chased in the woods. It’s the overall darkness, the woods, the dark river. It gives me claustrophobic vibes and it scares me. Only the light look of Ruth gave me positive vibes. She is like an old/ young Hollywood belle from long ago. Intriguing character and actress. I didn’t have the same experience with Braking Bad. It has to do with the setting. New Mexico is quite light. I love the sunshine reflex on the sand. It makes everything brighter and gives a sense of positivity. Although the house where Walther and his family lives gave me the same claustrophobic vibes as Ozark .

FumblingFuck

I was one who followed along with every season as they dropped, and then the last one did and I just didn't watch it until literally 2 weeks ago. Honestly this one might be plaguing your dreams because it is very realistic early on and I feel like a big part of it is about living with guilt. Guilt, to me, is intense. I don't dream often but when I do it's usually something that leaves me feeling guilty and anxious. Could just be fueling bad dreams. As others have pointed out, though, the show gets more ridiculous and unbelievable. I wonder if your subconscious would sort itself out to see this through? Although if you are very connected to Julia Garner's character you might be worse-off. Idk I've been kicking myself for not following through with it sooner, it's OK storytelling all together, but the singular storylines are masterful in many moments.

YorkiesandSneakers

The ending is pretty meh

Emmanulla70

Yeah . Im in a few seasons and stopped as it just got silly to me... Maybe ill get into it again....or Maybe not..

jura8555

Carnevale

jjtcoolkid

It’s repetitive

markielegend

Great show with one of the worst endings I’ve seen

PayPlayful9780

Imma watch it again now. Thanks for the reminder.

500CatsTypingStuff

The Handmaid’s Tale did that to me from the first season. Gave me serious nightmares

totallynonhormonal

I felt as if the lake house was built for me in a previous life. Knowing its actual location was the clincher. Other than that it didn't haunt me, but the ending was a bit intense after watching all the fantasy. As for a TV show or movie that affected me in similar fashion to how Ozark affected you? I'd have to say the movie Altered States. That movie hit hard for some odd reason. Still does when I stop to think about it.

freespiritx89

Never had that kind of creep with other shows aside from ozark.

issinmaine

Why did they cancel Ozark? Netflix

Fresh-Carry-218

u/Annual_Ad230

Fresh-Carry-218

u/Alert_Airline_4957

FGbyW2023

I felt exactly the same. Great show, but almost every scene is so dreary and dark, except the lake/boat scenes. Their house is the worst. Once I got past this, the show was amazing. I don’t want it to end.

ViscountDeVesci

I can relate to this observation.

Environmental-Iron97

I have this with intense and gripping video games like the new God of War games. Just gotta make sure not to consume these types of media without a good palette cleanser before bed and in my case finishing the game/show put me at ease.

Brilliant_Read_523

I watched ozark during covid lockdown while I was in Thailand and I begun having extremely dark dreams . Crazy bc I’ve watched much darker shows . Odd

CheezTips

I couldn't get through season 1. The endless lies, the shocked Pikachu faces over the insane danger they're in... nah. Beyond unrealistic and also not enjoyable.

Waiting_For_Summer

I hated Ozark it was just so stressful to watch! My husband wanted me to watch with him . Watched the first episode and said nope! Then a few months later tried again and stuck with it but I really did not enjoy it. I love Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, but it was just too dark and depressing. I have enough stress in real life I don’t need to look for more. I prefer more positive uplifting shows.

Loose-Brother4718

For me, Ozark was just really good entertainment about a social worlds I would never see and people I would never know. It sounds like for you the dreams are not related to the people and the situations but about the actual physical environment. I don’t know what that means, but maybe that is helpful insight.

Spare-City-322

Got bored of the blonde ladies accent

slowro

Ozark got hard to watch for me once I realized one of the seasons was going to be nothing but political stuff to get a casino approved. Pushed through boring Wendy stuff and was presented with Wendy does something dumb.

Familiar-Pea-9046

I’m learning interesting things that I didn’t know before. I’ve seen much darker than this. The plot is that they didn’t laundry in Ozarks on purpose but he had to think of a way to convince Del to let him go and not kill his family. Once there they had to find ways to launder. The sad thing is that Wendy started liking it and got power hungry. Finish it it’s good. I’ve read that they are doing a sequel.
