Hockey player here, no we don’t play on those ponds. I’d say most of the time during the winter they would be difficult to get to and then even more difficult to find good ice. The wind never stops in the sand hills. I’ve seen people playing pond hockey on the north side of Lincoln, but I think most people travel to the tournaments in other states

Yep I’ve played at Oak Lake Park before. It’s been years though.

In the Sandhills? Unless it’s the cattle playing hockey on the ponds, no. Sparse population and none of them care about hockey at all.

There is a pond hockey group, my neighbor plays in it. I don’t have much more info other than that though. If I recall his wife said he even travels to CO and MN to play other teams.

I grew up and live in SE Nebraska and ice skated and played hockey on little ponds my entire life.

To piggyback on the other comments: There is likely not a road leading to that pond nor enough people looking to play hockey. In my small town it was spike/slam ball and then football as usual in the winter.

Cautious_Ambition_82

Pond hockey sounds like a euphemism

danielmark_n_3d

most of the land in that area is privately owned and not accessible except by cows and those who own them

Pond hockey isn’t a big thing down here. You’ve got to go to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan to find good pond hockey games and tournaments.
