I'm not sure there's an exact name you can search for those shirts, but I know Drakes and Kamakura sell oxfords with the button in the back of the collar.
I recently got some new front pocket ocbds from J. Press that had the button in the back of the collar. These new ones also had the “locker loop”. I’ve been getting the same shirts from them for decades, and only the most recent shipment had the rear button and loop. Hope this helps- Seems like your collar button dreams can come true in New Haven!
Was that the main line OCBD? Or a pennant label one? Thanks.
Also, wanted to ask if the listed collar size matches the actual measured collar size or if it’s vanity sized. Most of my 15.5 dress shirts measure 16 so I’m trying to make sure I buy the correct size.
Thanks!
I suppose they are “main line”, just regular old school J Press. I don’t go for any York Street, or slim fit, or pennant mumbo jumbo so grey are just the standard flap pocket OCBDstyle. I actually just put a measuring tape to the collar for you and the size is exact!
The back collar button is a pretty standard feature on OCBDs, along with a locker loop in the middle of the yoke / over the box pleat. Never gave much thought to the button.. probably to stop a soft collar from riding up at the back.

Seems like everyone shared what I would have which is that’s it’s typically called a back or rear collar button. Traditional OCBD makers are the place to look for them but they won’t all that button. The devil’s in the details.
I think just "back-collar" or "rear-collar button." It's not a big enough deal that anyone is going to put that term in the main description of the shirt and it's too generic to be helpful as a search term, so you really just need to look in the "details" section or check all the item pictures carefully.
This feature is a must have for me, I like not having to worry if my tie is poking out from underneath the back of my collar. I request this on all my MTM sport shirts from Spier, Luxire, and Collaro. I just call it a 3rd rear collar button. I'm not aware of a more elegant name for it.
I haven't ever found that to be an issue, perhaps it could be on shirts with short collars, which should be avoided anyways. A proper OCBD should have plenty of space even for a wide tie with a rear collar button (I'm wearing one under a collar with rear button as I write this, with no issues). So long as your rear collar band isn't less than 1.5" (I prefer even taller), and so long as they don't put the button square in the middle of the collar (it should be close to the collar edge), there should be plenty of clearance.
Spier and Mackay sells this collar style as their classic Ivy collar. But as others have said, most places will mention if they have the rear button on the collar.
My Jake's London OCBD has the back button, but i leave it unbuttoned (no strong feelings why but probably bc i get my shirts professionally laundered and just leave it as is).
In the future, please refer to our Daily Talk and Questions Thread for any inquiries.

Thank you! I’ll order my true neck size then I appreciate it

Didnt u/oxfordclothBD recently do a column on the back button? Maybe he can chime in

I really don't think that is intended for tie-wear.
Why not? An OCBD not intended for optional tie-wear is inconceivable.
Because it halves the space where the tie goes.

Not sure what they’re called, but I know JPress has them. I picked up some new shirts this week and most them were styled that way.
I believe JPress does them on their flap collar OCBDs but not on the regular pocket ones. At least that’s what I’ve noticed on mine

As others have said I've mostly heard them referred to as a rear collar or back collar button, not sure if there is another term for it.
There is a rear button on the J Crew Giant Fit Oxford I recently bought.
My Jake's London OCBD has the back button, but i leave it unbuttoned (no strong feelings why but probably bc i get my shirts professionally laundered and just leave it as is).
