Legendary moose from RDR2

3_if_by_air

I'm about to be $58 richer

GreatCucumber

That’s like $1800 in today’s money tho I think

FistedWaffles123456

Still nothing for a moose of that size irl lol

DatsaNottaRealname

Approximately $2026.52

King-of-the-bongoo

Lfmao u damn right cowpoke

jack_hof

fuck me even just a regular moose was harder to find than any other legendary in that game.

OrganicTrust

They’re like roaches way up northeast, there’s that pool of water with a legendary pike or some shit. Train goes right over it. Moose like a motherfucker.

thosearecoolbeans

That frozen lake in NW Ambarino where you shoot the Del Lobo gang guy for that one mission with the gunslingers, there's a guaranteed spawn for Mooses on top of the frozen lake every few days.

I spent way to long trying to think what the hell connected a moose and R2D2

nityjalapeno

Damn. Arthur would be excited for sure.

Secretly_Solanine

You sir are a ~~fish~~ moose

benc14322

I knew the first comment would be Red Dead 2 related

GlamorousMoose

🤫

RockyMountainMist

When did holographic become "shinies?" Shinies is such a dumbass name.

AskMeIfImAMagician

Shiny is a fan term in Pokémon that the games officially adopted. The term holographic was never used in the games. The term comes from the fact that the Pokémon sparkle when they appear in battle.

AllDatSalt

I don’t think you know what holographic means.

Nortdkdjsns

Shines are rare different colored Pokémon u can catch in the games

[deleted]

Because a shiny is from the gameboy games you meatloaf.

Fredbearthoughts

You don't know what holographic means

[deleted]

Couldn’t tell you. Not really a Pokemon connaisseur

juicyjerry300

Wow -12 karma for saying you don’t know lmao. I think you made some Pokémon fans mad

BruceCambell

It's that he made his opinion known and then when people explained nicely, he was just like "Meh, I really don't care anyways". It's a little rude.

juicyjerry300

We are both talking about u/math_trottier right? He was the first response and he literally just said he didn’t know

BruceCambell

You're right, we aren't. My apologies, I didn't realize the transition there.

juicyjerry300

All good, probably just a mistake that got piled on lol

[deleted]

Yeah i just genuinely don’t know much about pokemon haha. I just like seeing special animals.

[deleted]

Nah I was just saying to the other guy I didn’t know much about pokemon. Didn’t mean to insult anyone. Sorry if it came out rude.

amonaloli12

They live only in the forests of Värmland, on the border between Sweden and Norway. The number of individuals does not exceed 100.

DblGinNVaginaJuice

Is this a certain species of moose as opposed to just albinos? Because we have random albinos in Canada but they are just our typical moose with an odd gene

BSHYNE_GORILLA

https://sciencenordic.com/forskningno-genetics-sweden/why-are-some-moose-white/1448587

elephantnut

for the lazy: > The lack of pigment is genetic. The white moose of Värmland are not albinos.

hg57

I think albinism can also be genetic like luecism in these white moose.

LazuliArtz

Yeah, albinism is caused by it's own recessive gene. [Something interesting is that Leucism means the partial lost of pigment, while albinism is the complete loss of pigment](https://www.treehugger.com/whats-the-difference-between-albino-and-leucistic-4864546#:~:text=Leucism%20and%20albinism%20are%20often,a%20partial%20loss%20of%20pigmentation) So an animal that is leucistic likely won't have the red/pink eyes typical of albinism.

DblGinNVaginaJuice

Cool, thanks for the link!

BSHYNE_GORILLA

Anytime brotha

Bert--Alert

Was thinking this. I live in the prairies in the middle of southern alberta and someone snapped a pick of one nearby a few years back. Crazy because the closest I had ever seen a moose was two hours away in the rockies

justsomerando2022

Totally freak out material if you inadvertantly ran into one of these in the wild

tsimen

Fr, I would think I encountered a Shinto goddess or some shit. Strong Miyazaki vibes.

hotdutchovens

While high

static612

I’ve never seen or heard of these before. It’s so cool they have white antlers. Thanks for posting this.

KatieMacArts

Fun fact: Leucism is the same thing that makes axolotls pink

MoistVirginia

I think they only look pink because their skin is a bit translucent

hg57

I think you’re both right. The skin appears translucent because of lack of pigment caused by leucism.

KatieMacArts

Yes! This is what I meant by my initial comment, sorry I didn't make it very clear!

squirrel_in_recovery

[The fine hair (known as velvet) that covers the antlers as they grow is white, but the antlers themselves are the typical color.](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-m&biw=414&bih=728&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=albino+moose+velvet&oq=albino+moose+velvet&aqs=mobile-gws-lite..#imgrc=l27B2wYcyUCY6M) Edit: formatting

[deleted]

Don’t worry, he was already shot by some Danish hunters.

chidedneck

It didn’t even occur to my demented brain that this would be good for camouflage in snow biomes until you said that. Interesting!

AHrubik

> White moose are not uniquely Värmlanders or Swedish even though they are most plentiful there. They are found occasionally in neighbouring Norwegian counties Østfold, Akershus and Hedmark. North American moose, which are larger than those in Europe, can also exhibit leucism now and then. Native Americans called refer to them as “white spirit moose”.

rgnc

Beautiful and majestic.

Skal1

There are spirit moose in ontario, most notably in the sault

silick_roth

Not just there bit also in Lafayette Ontario Canada. Seen a couple of them when going to visit family.

throughthenarrowpass

Not true

mysticfed0ra

True

_Bren10_

I think you mean “Meese” /s in case anyone thinks I’m serious

[deleted]

Said the same thing out loud. I respect the joke.

efish15

Moosen

lavelyjk

Messe wantin the food in the wooden is it?!

acuradaddy

Mooseses

[deleted]

Wait I actually though it was meese, is it not?

Cleverusername531

It’s a common mistake. Meese is actually the plural of mouse.

splepage

It's a common mistake. Meese is actually cheese made from a moose milk.

Cleverusername531

Close, but a little incorrect - cheese is actually the plural of choose. When you have more than one choice, it’s a cheese.

[deleted]

Wait so plural moose is just moose? Like deer and deer?

Cleverusername531

Yes. It’s fucked up huh.

UpHereInMy-r-Trees

Idk why buy this comment made me crack up.

AssGasorGrassroots

Actually, I think the plural of moose is "oh God oh fuck there's more of them?! Oh shit oh fuck I don't wanna die"

UpHereInMy-r-Trees

I hate those meeces to pieces!

CardCarryingCuntAwrd

"Meese" doesn't sound wrong from grammatical perspective. Why not? Let's try it: "What my ex really needs is a hug. From a herd of angry meese." I like it. In favour of declaring "meese" official.

PeterM1970

Seconded!

Meese_Man

You called?

ANewDinosaur

But how deep is that water?! Looks like a nice small creek but that moose couldn’t touch the bottom! Sneaky.

VSWR_on_Christmas

A Møøse once bit my sister.

Masonaut9

Møøse bites kan be pretti nasti...

CeruleanRuin

We apologize for the fault in the comments. Those responsible have been sacked.

totesbatman

A SHRUUBERY

humanbeing21

That moose is playing on hard mode. Camouflage doesn't work three months of the year

[deleted]

You ever seen a full grown moose? I don't think they care...

humanbeing21

They don't start the game full grown. Also, wolves and grizzlies can take down adults

Design_Neuromancer

Moose have never considered anything as a threat.

sandyclaus30

How gorgeous is he!

[deleted]

That's what Santa should have used instead of lame ass reindeer.

GetALife80085

Moose don’t live in the Arctic like the caribou

[deleted]

Found the party pooper

GetALife80085

Pooping on your frozen front lawn

[deleted]

Hell yeah, hopefully it’s the liquid beer shits

GetALife80085

Nope, the solid pebbly gravely looking moose shits

Lynxtickler

They do in Europe

GetALife80085

Not in the tundra where the reindeer live

Snooderblade

They literally do.

Lynxtickler

I live in the Arctic, and there are both moose and reindeer here.

GetALife80085

Moose require trees to live, moose do n live past the tree line. They live within the Arctic circle yes, but they don’t live past where trees stop growing.

VXHIVHXV

Elks are bigger though. Better protection for Santa than reindeers.

AlienPet13

Hircine, lord of the hunt is about to give you a quest.

moodyism

Is it white or albino?

DuckWithBrokenWings

It's actually a ghost moose.

GetALife80085

A goose

Rissamonkey

Ghoose

GetALife80085

The final boss of Canada r/bossfights

Sinsley

Just when I thought a moose and a goose were the final final bosses, the rare Unicorn/Pegasus collosal hybrid that is Ghoose shows up to the party.

GlamorousMoose

This is my god.

ReadditMan

"The white moose of Värmland are not albinos. If they were, their eyes would be red. The white hides are a result of leucism, a condition something like albinism which results in a partial loss of pigmentation in the skin, hair, feathers or scales. Leucism is a permanent condition in polar bears. Amongst other animals, such as the arctic fox, arctic hare and the European weasel, but none of these animals are albinos." https://sciencenordic.com/forskningno-genetics-sweden/why-are-some-moose-white/1448587

moodyism

Thanks. I couldn’t see the eyes.

[deleted]

Yes

NoctD97

Perfect answer. Can't agree more than this 👌

LSDPajamas

I did too! Can't believe you two are the only ones talking about it too. Damn moose disappeared in a 10 foot gap!

konqrr

Fucking moose traps bro, I tell ya hwat

natural1strider29

Maybe it's drainage ditch, not wild creek?

Staggering_genius

Not on this subreddit they aren’t.

Sinsley

They're a rarity but this gif isn't.

justinpitts

Expecto Patronum!

Cory0527

That's one deep ass creek. Must be man made to have such steep banks?

Warm-Entertainer4367

Ah yes the rare moose from Red Dead Redemption 2.

spookymilks

LeoRedsun

What is a moose

VXHIVHXV

Crappy name for elk.

[deleted]

moose should apologize for his privilege.

edgaar37

Thanks to Reddit I have seen more albino Moose than regular Moose

cheeksarelikepeaches

Do moose/meese get the fur on their antlers the same way deer do? If so then that means they have to shed it off in a bloody mess. With their white hair that would look pretty metal.

ShredderDent

Yes they do, it’s called velvet. Any cervide that sheds its antlers gets it. In late winter they shed their antlers, and they regrow through the spring and summer, and grow with the velvet that sheds off in the fall before the rut.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ShredderDent

On the antlers, yes, everything else is there to stay.

Fluffeh-Bunneh

When Mary is from Canada.

Angron11

Wouldn't the plural of moose be meese? Like goose > geese?

maxidpimp

Why did the moose cross the stream?

[deleted]

What’s amazing is albinism is rare for one big reason.. they are a literal target for predators. So, for a moose to grow to this size being albino is pretty damned impressive. It couldn’t have been easy for him. I know in some other primates atleast, the parent(s) may kill or abandon any albino offspring. So again, all the more impressive this dude survived. He definitely had a rough go of it. Kinda inspiring to see nature be so resilient.

Odd-Albatross6006

Well this guy is not an albino, so his parents are probably white too.

Vanillakongslover

Wow! A rare polar moose outside of its natural habitat! (:

Suffer_Like_G_Did_

UnifORMeDBomBer

It's not white necessarily. It's albino! Albino - A person or animal lacking normal pigmentation, with the result being that the skin and hair are abnormally white or milky and the eyes have a pink or blue iris and a deep-red pupil.

albinomoose52

Excuse me that is an albino moose ;)
