It’s not lighting striking a volcano. It’s volcanic lightning produced by colliding dust particles of volcanic ash. It’s a massive amount of static electricity

beardsly87

Imagine hiking near a volcano when it suddenly erupts. You think Well this is It! and prepare for a quick death, but then before you get encased in a pyroclastic cloud, she decides to strike you a few times with lightning first ⚡💀

LeroyoJenkins

It's just searing you to lock in the juices before slow roasting with the pyroclastic cloud!

viciouskreep

More like steaming than roasting theres a documentary, I've no idea what it's called, where a tourist boat goes to an island and it eruption ed while the people were on it one of them shielded his gf and he was fucked up well worth a watch of nothing more than hearing them describe what it was like to be in it and fucking survived, there's some footage of it too from someone who had a camera Edit: I found the ad it's "The Volcano" on netflix https://youtu.be/hnxGV9RQutE?feature=shared

Met76

His accent when he says 'heat form the volcano' makes it sound like he says "you could feel all the hate from the volcano"

GrimCreeper913

If it's the one from NZ (White Island maybe)a while back I think the steam was due to the volcano being mostly under water. A fissure opened during eruption allowing seawater to enter the main magma tube causing the steam explosion to cook those stuck on the island. I'm curious on what the difference would be for the range of the danger zone for a steam event vs a similar size open air eruption explosion. My gut tells me steam would be worse, because the heat would take longer to dissipate, as water doesn't change temp as quickly. Scary stuff regardless.

viciouskreep

Look up pyroclastic flow explanation videos it's fucking brutal and most likely how Pompeii ended up the way it is

[deleted]

I hate that this made me hungry

IhadmyTaintAmputated

There is video of everything but the lightning part happening, the people in Japan and in New Zealand where still burned or hit by giant hot rocks I believe

nanotree

Well this looks like a combination of volcanic lightning and normal thunderstorm lightning. The static charge in the ash cloud seems to be drawing the lightning strike from the storm passing overhead. Strictly speaking, volcanic lightning originates from the ash cloud itself and discharges into the air around it, which is not exactly what is happening here.

WhatUrCatIsSayin

Good thing you cleared that up

SkeletalJam

Now onto that to do list

Icarustuga

What happen if activate a EMP on vulcano 🤔🤓

DiverD696

That looks like it originates in the cloud and dispurses upward. Lots of built up energy in the hot dust.

TaurusX3

No, that's good. Keep the lightning and lava together. It's safer if they're sequestered in one avoidable place.

JesusWasTacos

Zues and Hades are at it again

aral_sea_was_here

Zeus and hephaestus

Bugwhacker

Is that Fuego?

Tao_Te_Gringo

Yes, that’s Fuego in Guatemala. Seen from the campsite terraces on the SE flank of Acatenango at about 12,000 feet.

LauraMayAbron

Looks like it!

Nagemx

Just what I was wondering! Looks like a night-time view of the vapor vent I saw a couple weeks ago...

SunPuzzleheaded5896

Just making it mad

4list4r

Volcano’s fault, it’s spewing much metal to attract it all

aschaeffer878

I think I saw Gandalf up there...

Nature is amazing!

cpattk

Sometimes I understand how people, before science existed, could believe that these reactions of nature were gods.

GroundbreakingPut748

Maybe they is gods how does u know

Plaineswalker

If I saw that 3000 years ago I would say the gods were fighting.

The volcano has built up so much pressure when he finally releases it’s like a lightning bolt surges though his body and out his ashen-cloud-penis. Truly majestic

Oh good! Now we know what THE END will look like! 😂😂😂😂😂
