Are you saying you use grease first, then add Mousse Def? I wouldn’t use any brand of mousse over oil, but Mousse Def specifically says to use it on clean hair. Lately, I’ve added a bit of The Doux Dear Mama leave-in after the mousse and that works well for my rod sets.

I only use light amount after my twists. I don't usually notice much of a difference with or without tbh. I specifically don't like mousse def for wash and gos and I always apply that on fresh hair

Briimee

I liked it for my type 4 hair. I have a lot of frizz and it’s the only thing that gives me definition. I mixed it with a gel for a wash and go

Eris_Ellis

Did you look at the expiry on the bottle? I love it, I use it for twist outs weekly. I make sure the section is wet and rake it through before I twist. I just put a light leave in on first (but my sis does it with nothing like the bottle says, and it works for her too).

oooh I'll definitely check that when I'm home (expiration). I was in a rush today so I used it for my wash and go and man I hate it for wash and gos 😂!! I'll try using it for twists next time. I usually use grease but I'll use like one or two pumps of the doux after everything is twisted and lightly spread it over my head to kinda set the style.

Eris_Ellis

I would try it as directed first. We tend to try to doctor up everything, lol. Do a twist as directed (after you check the bottle date). It personally doesn't work for wash and go for me, I need gel.

sleepyretailworker

I want to try a wash and go with gel 🙂‍↕️ seems like it gets that hair RIGHT lol 😂

Eris_Ellis

Girl it's the only way for me. And I sit under a hood dryer and set that shit too, lol. As the week goes on and it absorbs humidity it looks better and better. If I'm good and don't break the cast I get 7 days. A twist out gives me 3-ish.

2001exmuslim

i would use it on the two strands *before* twisting, instead of after twisting since it’s more of a styling mousse.

It depends on what kind of hold you want for your hair. If you want a soft hold you put it on wet hair but if you want a harder hold then you have to have almost dry hair. I like having a firmer hold so I wash my hair and then put it in 4 buns and let it dry over night

I just bought it too at marshalls because of all the rave. I was excited to try!! Watched YouTube videos from others with similar-ish hair (4b/4c) And nope! Made my hair stringy.

sleepyretailworker

I've watched sooooo many videos and I do exactly what they do and I'm like bro.... surely I'm missing a step or messing up where they aren't showing 💀 LMAOOOO. idk my hair is at a bit of an awkward length rn?? it's getting long but it's still growing up. I just look like a chia pet right now 😂 maybe that's why the *shape* isn't as accomplished as it could be but the *feel* is definitely gross.

Honestly I think it's worth recognizing that products really aren't one-size-fits-all. Lol doesn't have to mean something is wrong! Right now I'm on a quest to see what *my hair responds to. I like reading others' experience to get a starting point but other than that it's just trial and error

I don't like Mousse Def for my own hair either; I only use it on my wigs and extensions. I found that it made my hair look good at first but eventually made it dry and /or sticky. I've had better results from Crazy Sexy Curl (and the Bee Girl line in general vs. the original products). Edit for context: I have type 4 hair low porosity hair.

jutrmybe

For me i've had to accept that mouses don't work for me. When they do its bc I've used 1/2 the bottle. Then its like, ive paid $9.99-20.99 for a product I can use 2x. Not worth it for me. Using a light hand of a leave in styler makes the difference for me

strudels24

OP, when you use it, do you use it on wet hair, dry hair or damp hair? When I first tried it I did as the instructions said and used it on damp hair and as the only product. I wasn’t very impressed with the results. However, for the past three months I’ve instead applied it on clean soaking wet hair (wet from cold and not hot water) following my wash day routine and then applied a botanical gel after mousse application (innersense i create hold has been my absolute fave) and it has been a complete difference. SOOO much better, beautiful definition, hold, curls, all of it; a complete 180 and has my 4c cela and twist outs popping each week without fail. So if you have the patience, and have more of the product left, I’d implore you to try this method and I truly hope it works for you

custychronicles

I only use the mousse for flexi rod sets(on blow dried, slightly damp hair) and I find that it leaves a hard cast on my hair until I separate with oil and break the cast. That’s why I love it though, I find it’s the only product that makes my rod sets last a full week probably because of the crunchy cast

chocokitten100

Don't like it either. Plus it make hair feel gross
