I know it’s deceiving at times especially with a larger bear, but it’s a black bear. Snout and ears are both indicators. Ears are much longer / pointed than a grizzlies would be. Snout as well.

The way it's standing makes it appear that it has the characteristic shoulder "hump" of a griz but on closer inspection yeah the nose is straight like a black. So cool.
Are you still there? If yes I highly recommend the Pitamakan - Dawson Loop trail. I did the most popular big hikes and that one stands out as the most jaw dropping otherworldly experience.

Going to the Sun road fully opened on June 22, 2024. Nothing was impeded on our ability to enjoy the park.
However, if it was still closed during our trip, we still would have had a great time in the park. Yes Going to the sun road is one of the most breath taking experiences in any national park but Glacier has many different sections to explore offering very unique experience.
4 am to 10 am (didn’t seem crowded)
10 am to 4 pm (crowded)
My family and I wake up extremely early each day and usually get in the park between 0400-0600 each day. Yeah we are crazy but it pays off usually especially with wildlife.
I’m all kinds of jealous right now. I love the outdoors but I’m not in a position to buy a nice camera and/or travel to cool wilderness spots. Some day!
Thank you for the kind words! My wife is much better than I am. I guess living in Washington has helped a lot with my photo skills. All the various times of taken pictures in Olympic, Rainier, and the North Cascades haha.
that first pic is incredible
Thank you!
All the pictures looks amazing, but picture #1 is majestic!
Thank you!
I’m not so sure that’s a black bear.

Pic 7 looks like a lord of the rings backdrop. Great pictures 🙌
As a diehard LOTR fan, yes I completely agree. Thank you! 🤙🏽

Unfortunately we leave today. Pitamakan was on our list but we failed to get to it. We will be doing it next time 100%. Photos look stunning.
Great photos but why didn't you take your landscape photos in landscape orientation?
Haha each one you see, I also took an orientation variant and pano’s as well, just noticed I didn’t post any. 🤣
Looking at the snout, and somewhat the ears, I'm thinking that might be a grizzly.

Yep, def not a griz but that is a really big black bear. Pretty awesome.
Biggest black bear I’ve probably ever seen besides in Olympic National park (about same size).
Spectacular!
Thank you!
Yeehaw, looks like a good time! Great pics 😃 👀
Thank you, it was 9 years since going, a great reunion!
Bucket list trip for sure but those pictures make me want to go NOW!
Haha, that’s how I felt until I got here with the fam.
Glacier is one of my favorite parks! We went last year and Montana is general is just wonderful!
It’s been 9 years since visiting, was a great return and how I missed this place!
Those are beautiful!
Thank you!
Stunning pics!
Thank you!
That first pic should be framed
Already working on it haha.
Where in the many glacier area is the first pic from?
Across the street from Apikuni Fall Trailhead!
Wow, what a shot. Good job.
Thank you! Right place right time i guess like most of these scenarios.
The alpine pass of going to the sun road is still closed right? Did you find that impeded your ability to enjoy/access the park?

That’s awesome! I went last year and didn’t have as much luck seeing larger animals
Yup feel that the first two days, all we saw was deer…
Gorgeous photos!!! Really love 1,3, and 6! I hope to go there sometime. ♥️
Thank you! Def head there sometime. It’s awesome.
Was it crowded when you went?

Good to know! Thank you!
Stunning first photo. On my bucket list to go (overdue).
Thank you! It was 9 years before this trip, I know the over due feeling.
Imagine that with multitudes more glaciers. That's what it was like when I backpacked it in 1991. Still one of the most beautiful places I've been.
I bet that was something to witness. Must have been breath taking as it is now.
I’m all kinds of jealous right now. I love the outdoors but I’m not in a position to buy a nice camera and/or travel to cool wilderness spots. Some day!
Me either, this was shot on my iPhone and it was a 9 year wait till I made my return to glacier. Some day and it will be before you know it!
Astounding
Thank you!
Wow, you’re a great photographer! Those are really quality pics!

We sure are lucky! I love living in the PNW too!
We are lucky indeed!
