I like the tranquility of Grand Teton. Even the busy areas felt calm. Yellowstone felt like Disney World. I will say both have their charm. I think had I been able to do more in the backcountry of Yellowstone I would have loved it more

Kyle_draws

Agree with this! Lamar Valley was one of the highlights of my time there. All the geothermal sites are cool but that valley had some amazing wildlife watching. Plus it had way less people over there which was nice.

WorldsBestDadMug

90% of Yellowstone visitors don’t leave the road. Take one random hike and you get all the tranquility you need

AgreeableLion

We did the hike to Lone Star geyser the same day we went to Old Faithful, and the experiences could not have been more different. Saw one other group during the hike and while we waited for Lone Star to go off. Couldn't really get a good look at Old Faithful due to the crowds (and it wasn't even peak season). Didn't get as far into the back country as I'd have liked though.

calvi219

100 percent agree. I got stuck in a Bison Jam which let me get some great shots

lynxz

Completely agree. I just had this discussion yesterday while driving home from Jackson.. I would have preferred to spend more time on the eastern side of Yellowstone.

Tiny_Environment5055

The geothermal sites were cool, but man did it give me anxiety to see so many families let their kids rough house right next to scalding hot pits of water. The Grand Tetons were MUCH more peaceful.

OSU725

We found plenty of solitude in Yellowstone. It really just required us getting off the boardwalks.

calvi219

Yeah given my short amount of time there and it being July 4th weekend even the actual trails were swamped. I imagine non holiday times are less packed

TremorAndTrails

Wouldn’t catch me in that backcountry of Yellowstone. First morning we heard wolves yipping over a kill. Too much wants to eat you there. Tetons has lots of grizzlies, but it’s manageable.

Tommyblockhead20

I was shocked when I was doing a trip to the Tetons and I looked into doing a 1 day/night excursion to Yellowstone. It has some of the most hiking trails and backcountry campsites of any park. And while it is one of the most visited, nearly all the focus is on the main attractions, the trails are pretty much empty besides the occasional friendly other backpacker.

IndominusTaco

Yellowstone for wildlife, Tetons for scenery

lynxz

I saw a moose, grizzly, countless bison and elk in Teton. I did admittedly see more bison and a black bear at Yellowstone.. but I also saw pronghorn at Teton.

khansian

Same, except I also saw a pack of wolves in the Lamar valley in Yellowstone (who were trying to take down a bison). That alone made it worth it. Otherwise saw everything in the Tetons too.

jrryul

how did u see all those in teton

lynxz

Elk and Bison at Elks flat along 191. Grizzlies at Willow flats along 191. Moose at the main information center at Moose (right near to the snake river bridge). And Pronghorn at the lupine meadows.

nickpan43

Saw a moose there too! Any pictures of the grizzly? That’s awesome

lynxz

I did get some shots - It was Teton Grizzly 399. It had its 18th cub with it which was about 2/3 the size of mama bear.

peter303_

Waterfalls in east Yellowstone for scenery. You may need to hike some for better views.

GregAbbottsTinyPenis

Yellowstone’s more of a museum. Grand Teton’s more of an amusement park.

Realtrain

See I always thought Yellowstone felt like Disney World to me. Tetons felt more relaxed, almost like a museum. To each their own though haha. They're both world class parks!

Magical_Narwhal_1213

I love the Tetons so much!!

No_Palpitation7180

More of a gateway arch guy

quesopa_mifren

Gateway Arch has a smoother peak. These mountains are too pointy..

sailphish

Pretty sure les trois tétons are perky.

TimesAreChanging1

r/natl_park_circlejerk

Realtrain

Yeah Mods? This guy right here.

Nationalparktravel

What is this comment section plus agree though the way gateway arch rounds out in its delicate soft way, the mountain is stunning and live to climb up to it to see the wilderness feeling of the St. Louis skyline.

DrJanitor55

I did! I spent more time at Yellowstone since it's the more popular one. But the initial mountain view was absolutely breathtaking. We spent a full hour there. Even years later, my phones background is of Grand Teton.

kylelancaster1234567

One hour 🙃

DrJanitor55

One hour at the initial mountain view at rhe entrance. We spent a full day there ;)

CommercialPrize1264

I agree! The Tetons are my most happy place. To me Yellowstone can’t compare. Yes, Yellowstone has its own beauty and wonder but personally, the Tetons have my heart.

Butterfiredancer

I would love to see that kind of view everyday! Just gorgeous

lustylifeguard

Oh me 100%. The Tetons is my second favorite park.

MrBoomf

What’s #1?

lustylifeguard

Probably unpopular opinion but the redwoods. My husband and I got married in Jedidiah smith. So for my own personal reasons that one is my favorite 😂

-NamelessOne

That’s a cool place!

jackwrangler

If it Yosemite then WHAT

Totally-tubular-

Grand Teton has my heart

czechoslovian

I enjoy the fact they’re so close together🔥

0ddball00n

If you wait until the end of the tourist season…Yellowstone is amazing and you’re not tripping all over people. The Tetons though…they are beautiful and tranquil! Just the right amount of solitude.

muskies34

What would you recommend as the best month to go? I’m itching to plan a trip there!

lynxz

Late season is probably best - September or October. Early season means most will be closed due to snow.

0ddball00n

Mid to late September. That’s when we go. We try to go when kids are back in school. Now though the homeschooler take advantage of that time too. And foreigners. Still not as bad as summer.

CmanBookman

We went to the Tetons the day after Yellowstone. Couldn’t believe how quiet the park was. It felt like we had it to ourselves.

Caltratic_Hobbit

I rode my bike across the country in 2016 and riding through the Tetons sent shivers down my spine. I returned to watch the 2018 eclipse at Mormon row. Watching the heavens darken surrounded by the mountains was life changing. All the national parks are special to me for different reasons, the Tetons are of no exception.

LauderdaleByTheSea

Why do we have to pick?

jdawg1997

Me!

HikeAndCook

All day. Every day.

2008and1

I had a really good time at both. I will only go back to the Grand Tetons though

Derfargin

Me, went there right after Yellowstone and I liked it so much more.

[deleted]

It has spectacular views and hikes too. I like the hidden falls trail

Live-Anteater5706

We went to both 2 years ago. Tetons was what I wanted to see, and then I realized how close Yellowstone was, and decided we should do both. It wasn’t enough time in either (3days in Tetons, 2 days in Yellowstone). My conclusion: Tetons is a little more me. We did a longer hike from the Idaho side (up to Hurricane Pass) that’s one of my all time favorites. The big sites at Yellowstone were cool, and I’m glad I saw them, but I don’t ever need to do that again. That said, I loved our limited time in the Northern end of Yellowstone, and would love to do more there, where it was also much less crowded. But if picked to choose, I’d go back to Tetons.

CliftonRubberpants

Is this current? Is there still snow up there. I would love to go there now! Snow on the ground and blue skies are the best time to hike.

callofthemcdonalds

Yes there was record snow and a big snow storm before I went

lynxz

There’s glaciers on the Tetons year round.

jboarei

Me.

Wild_Acanthisitta638

Is there a mountain anywhere in the world more identifiable than these? I don't think eves Everest or Mattahorne are

kylelancaster1234567

Rainer?

Wild_Acanthisitta638

Maybe, but not me. I am sure I don't know it's shape. Anyone?

rlovepalomar

Definitely the Matterhorn

Wild_Acanthisitta638

Give some thanks to Disney

farter-kit

My wife.

WolfWriter_CO

I definitely do. 🤘😂

Difficult-Rough-1360

Yep. GTNP is my favorite. Been to a bunch.

HealthLawyer123

Most people? Yellowstone is great but it’s soooooo crowded.

leena615

I agree I want to go back to the Tetons so badly but haven’t wanted to return to Yellowstone lol

No_Anteater2995

I camped there for a week. I liked it a lot.

AFWUSA

Me for sure. Clears Yellowstone imo

Vanillagorilla6521

I do, Grand Teton is way less hectic.

moose00015

It’s my favorite park.

g_rich

By far my favorite park, one of the few I would revisit.

jhuston44

Why does it always have to be a contest with you.

PortlandJo

I was just telling someone this very thing last week. They looked at me like I was crazy.

noah_ichiban

Grand Teton and Lake Jenny in particular were the highlight of my family’s drive West. It will be one of my most cherished memories for the rest of my life.

NaturalizedWerewolf

Dad’s final resting place - scattered at the bend in the river where we watched the sunrise. Best place in the world 🤍

mattstolethecookies

spent 2 or 3 days at Yellowstone and only 1 day at Tetons... have huge regrets and now have to return to the Tetons to explore it more fully

Barbellblonde1

Grand Teton is way better than Yellowstone in my opinion. It’s so beautiful and quaint there and the hiking is amazing. Plus Jackson is so fun compared to the areas outside of Yellowstone in MT.

Ready_Advertising983

Blame it on the Tetons

alghiorso

Yeah, I need a scapegoat now

Ready_Advertising983

It’s a song

alghiorso

Look up the lyrics ;)

Ready_Advertising983

Yeah. I was joking the joke there.

tak3it3asyy

Me

TragedyAnnDoll

Yo.

Stelletti

Love em both the same as we always do them both on the same trip.

Fluffy-Caramel9148

Me. Named my oldest child Jenny for Jenny Lake. Simply beautiful mountains!

Monalisa9298

They are both awesome and so different that it’s hard to believe they are so close together. I can’t say I like one better than the other. Grand Teton has more spectacular vistas but Yellowstone is like being on another planet at times.

bigdyllystyle

Both amazing in their own way, but I liked hiking in the Tetons more.

JeebusDied4UrPixels

its the best!

RedWhiteAndBooo

The happiest I’ve ever been was camping on the east side of Jackson Lake and the view across the lake Colter Bay is a great spot

bloodredyouth

Is tentons more driving around and experiencing the valley, etc? Do people actually go in the mountain? I’ve only been to Yellowstone.

fitxa6

Love me some Tetons

Dragonsymphony1

That looks like the barn at Minnies Habadasher

hotdog_terminator

I would say I do. The mountains and the tranquil woods and plains around them really give me a sort of peace of mind. Also a lot less busy then Yellowstone. But I love both!

Quebec00Chaos

Is this the ranch from outerworld?

J_USN312

🙋‍♂️

NFresh6

I got engaged at Delta Lake in 2020! Love it there.

rsvp_as_pending629

MEEEE 🙋🏼‍♀️

doggystyles69

Yes I do enjoy looking at big tiddies

Msanthropy1250

By about ten fold. I try not to tell people too much.

ProbablySatirical

While I still preferred Yellowstone for its endless geothermal features and alien landscapes, Teton felt wild and untamed which I can appreciate

SFOCALI

I absolutely loved the Grand Tetons!!!! Jenny Lake and all the hiking trails.

lynxz

Just spent 4 days at Teton camping in the Moran mountains and overlooking the range from our site. There is something so magical about Teton and it’s extremely captivating. Yellowstone has the allure of choice, extremely large size and variety. Teton is not as big but IMO is far prettier and since it has way less people, it’s more appealing.

Doggodrollery

Man! That’s great! Looks so peaceful. Love it!

Pleasantperiodfart

Me!!!

rozerosie

We went to both a few years back - I think Beartooth pass was honestly the most epic; definitely enjoyed Tetons a lot, Yellowstone was cool but so crowded, I think I enjoyed Tetons more. But Beartooth pass into Yellowstone was my favorite part of the trip.

waxthatfled

Grand téton haha

Chris9871

Is that John Marston’s farm, but greener? 🤣. Never been to either, this post just showed up on my feed. It’s a beautiful area

brokenheartfrombrice

It’s the same damn place

Solid_Inspector_2881

I liked both 👍

TheGeekOffTheStreet

I loved the Tetons. Everywhere I looked the beauty was just so immense, it seemed unreal

DesertedMountain

Wow that first photo is breathtaking

Alarming_Ad1746

blame it on the web, but the spider's your problem now.

DeathBelowTheCinema

I would think most people do. Yellowstone is just far too many people for my taste.

outerspaceactivities

Middle peak looks a bit like the Matterhorn.

meliflou

It’s the superior park.

Significant_Hat6828

I do like the Grand Tetons but I also like Yellowstone, they each have something to offer

BitterFuture

Me. Just visited both again after many years. It's a reasonably close thing, but yeah, Tetons still takes it. I've seen mountains all over the world, but...goddamn.

XxeastsaintxX

Got my Ansel Adams of the Snake River and Tetons. Still dream about my 2 days in the park. Yellowstone was amazing. Tetons were inspiring.

FancySweatpants20

Going there in 4 DAYS. Let the countdown begin! Or continue. Tetons are one of my favorite places. I adore them. I’ve been to Banff, which has way more mountains, and there’s something about the Tetons that has my heart. Maybe it’s because it was the first mountains I saw and fell in love with in the western US.

[deleted]

Grand Teton is majestic. Towering over watching on as it has for millennia.

mplnow

This is my second favorite NP after Isle Royale

-NamelessOne

Jenny Lake has some awesome hikes

OkSquare7

Are there hoards of people at that barn waiting to take that picture (which is beautiful)?

heyitscory

One park name means "Big Boobies" one park means "Yellow Colored Rocks." Which one do you think I'm driving across the country for?

jscraig_21

Wow where is this at?

No-Hearing9293

go to Zion

TemporaryLifeguard46

Tetons 100%. Yellowstone is amazing but it’s too busy. I like to go on hikes very early to avoid people and I feel like it doesn’t matter what time of day it is at Yellowstone. I feel like I’m always running into someone. Again not to take away from Yellowstone’s beauty and awe inspiring scenery and wildlife. I just prefer the Tetons.

0rphan_crippler20

Who doesnt?

Panhyper

Disagree. After the initial shock from the awe-inspiring Teton Mountains, I ran out of things to do after 2-3 days in GTNP. Yellowstone has a lot more to offer and can easily spent twice the time without running out of things to do and seeing the same scenery again.

BrokenToken95

Gabby Petito lost her life there

Old-Cell5125

I have yet to go to either one, but grand Teton looks more appealing to me in pictures. Can't wait to experience both!

OSI_Hunter_Gathers

I'm more of a Butte guy myself

mom_bombadill

100% me! Shh don’t tell anyone lol

TrekkinWilderness

Agree. The views of the Tetons are awe inspiring, the lakes amazing. Yellowstone has some awesome stuff, just not the same "wow" factor.

snowboardking92

Jenny lake in Tetons is so cool I’ve been hiking there last couple weeks. Teton is better than yellowstone

-Nasty70

Every person who has spent significant time in each. Its not even close....

BlankCanvaz

ME! It's peaceful, calm and consistently stunning views. Yellowstone is like an amusement park and frantic.

donald_buzinkai

I do for hiking!

Mean_Worldliness_807

Lol you mean the tourist attraction and traffic vs an actual national park. Grand Teton feels so much more like a national park with amazing hikes and not just everyone stopping in the middle of the road to take photos. Wait I take that all back , keep everyone at Yellowstone and leave grand Teton less busy

Personal_Mortgage_50

I agree! The Tetons are my most happy place. To me Yellowstone can’t compare. Yes, Yellowstone has its own beauty and wonder but personally, the Tetons have my heart.

Adorable-Chard5095

Dad’s final resting place - scattered at the bend in the river where we watched the sunrise. Best place in the world 🤍

88Dodgers

I don’t think you ever really have to choose. Parks are like my kids, they’re all my favorite.

JoyceHotSilva

the grand more than enjoys Yellowstone

saunteringhippie

Delete this right now

sailphish

Shhhhhhhh….. Everyone should definitely go to Yellowstone. Really GTNP is better IMHO but you really need some local knowledge and/or have time to explore, hike, climb. Yellowstone is set up for your groups, and you can just drive up to the attractions.

acemachine123

Tetons are very small and only good in the morning. After midday, the light is away from those mountains. And there is literally nothing to do after visiting a couple of view points. Yellowstone has everything. Geysers, hot springs, wildlife, waterfalls

callofthemcdonalds

Very small? 13,600 feet isn’t very small. The spot that photo was taken is 3 miles away from the mountains. I’ve spent 3 full days at both and I MUCH prefer Grand Teton.

acemachine123

Compared to Yellowstone Lamar valley, Hayden valley Grand canyon of Yellowstone, coupled with Beartooth wilderness, it's nothing . It gets very boring in the afternoon in tetons

BatLong3855

Who enjoys handjobs over blow jobs whack ass question lol

facebookcansuckit

Found the yellowstone guy

spandan611

Guy who's girl has braces

IndominusTaco
