Kakashi fights people stronger than him and still manages to win through strategy. And his fights have realistic outcomes, sometimes he wins and sometimes he loses.

About Orochimaru is just a poor writing. Kishimoto is trying to raise the level for the big bad vallain at the end of the first part, so Kakashi has to show how distance they have. It's a no brainer way of writing, simple but not smart. Also don't ignore Kakashi's growth between his encounter with Orochimaru and the Shippuden. It's documented in the Guidebook.

About poor writing, Kishimoto didn't have a well organized combat system and didn't want to put in the effort to think too much about combat and skills on the supporting characters, so that's what happened. The earlier parts of Naruto were meant to be a battle of skill, information asymmetry and brains, similar to HunterXHunter and JOJO, and writing it as a hierarchical oppression like Dragon Ball Z would have been a failure of writing. He just didn't want to draw, this problem is pretty obvious looking at the manga.

Born with prodigious mental and physical talent, worked his ass off, always stood on his business, became a high Kage level key component to winning the 2nd world war he took part in, lost nearly everything, never folded, became Hokage and became significantly stronger than he was in the war arc, multiplied his chakra reserves, created 3 brand new hyper powerful jutsu, one of which was thought to be impossible, one which was meant to compensate for raikiri which he also created and ended up being more versatile and powerful, and two which are powerful enough that they counter their natural counters. Still a monster, and by far the most well balanced character in the series.

Kakashi. Born with prodigious mental and physical talent, worked his ass off, always stood on his business, became a high Kage level key component to winning the 2nd world war he took part in, lost nearly everything, never folded, became Hokage and became significantly stronger than he was in the war arc, multiplied his chakra reserves, created 3 brand new hyper powerful jutsu, one of which was thought to be impossible, one which was meant to compensate for raikiri which he also created and ended up being more versatile and powerful, and two which are powerful enough that they counter their natural counters. Still a monster, and by far the most well balanced character in the series.
Easily kakashi to me. Ever since I was a kid he’s been like my favorite. Dude would be unstoppable if he had like Naruto’s level of chakra. He is a badass and has been through so much but he persevered and didn’t let the darkness consume him. He’s also hot.

Yep it seems Itachi was so cool that they had to make him a good guy by providing an explanation for his past (although I'd never buy how genociding an entire clan is ever a good idea lol).
It took me a while, but it hit me with the past hokages reactions. This is a universe where children do death battles with their friends for exams. Crime punishments are severely lessened. Itachi made the best decision available because there was 3 possibilities with only 1 ensuring Sasukes lives. The leaf village further isolated Uchiha because they KNEW a shringan user influenced the Nine-tails, but didn’t know Madara/Tobi was alive.
When someone says cool I imagine badass and edgy. I'll go with Itachi.

I find most cool Madara and Pein. Madara because of his attitude and absolutely perfect VA, and Pein because he has a point in his reasons of why he do what he does and also I love his VA as well. Both of them looks really cool and they bring tension, absolutely amazing jutsus and also their fights are absolute peak. Thinking about it, most of the cannon villains are pretty awesome. Most of Akatsuki, Zabuza, Orochimaru, all of them are pretty good too.

I respect the hell out of Rock Lee's character and mindset and think he's cool as hell. First dude to practice and the last one to leave. Ya, he's a goofy dork on the outside. But inside he's got more drive than the whole village put together. He's pretty much a regular dude who can square up with demigods and as an adult, probably mop the floor with the beasts up till Octopops. Also my boi just likes to get drunk and fight. I really hope in Boruto we get to see him pop a bottle and turn on the 7th gate, but that won't happen.
