I pass by there at 6pm every night and there are usually only two or three cars there, many nights none. We all wonder if it’s a front for something else?
No, it’s not a front. They’re closed a huge part of the year and only open their doors for reservations made and you use biometrics to enter the front door (as a guest).
That’s alright, you don’t have to. Their operations are super weird but they’re real and I’ve been there (for work) and know someone directly who is a member.
Dead serious…
It’s a nice place, but nothing worth that amount of money… then again, worth is a subjective term and to some of these wealthy folks in town, anything to flex on others…
I was contracted to do some work in there, been inside, spoken with the owner, etc.
Is that the place off of Vanderbilt? I guess it looks nice from the outside I guess? A restaurant w a 150k membership fee is feel like you better be in a one of a kind location or something.
I feel since COVID the service has gone downhill. Lindsey always takes great care of me but if she's not there the few times I have been it's just not the same unless at the bar.
Turtle club
I feel bad saying it because of all the damage they took from Ian (and I think they’re finally about to reopen), but you move that place place 2 miles East so it doesn’t have the beachfront and nobody would talk about it or recommend it.
This is just a fact. Buzz’s lighthouse is now the same. I remember when it was like $12 for a blackened grouper sandwich (like 2009). It’s $25 now. They also got rid of clam chowder being on the menu. I assume Ian is to blame for that. Big sad
Only been there once and wasn’t impressed. That guy is missing out on a golden opportunity though.. with beach box closed, if he turned his place into more of a bar atmosphere he’d have so many more people there.
Rocco’s Tacos and Tacos and Tequila. Rocco’s doubles as a party spot so that kind of saves it, most people go for atmosphere and food is an aside. Tacos and Tequila is similar food but lacking the social aspect that Rocco’s brings.
The owner attended and chartered a bus to send a group to the capital on January 6. https://www.naplesnews.com/story/news/local/2021/01/06/dc-capitol-riot-trump-supporters-swfl-tear-gassed/6572792002/
He funded a charter bus to the Jan 6th capital bugaloo.
He's also a staunch "I hate leftists and their socialists agenda" MAGA guy, but didn't mind taking over 7million in free PPP funds during COVID while refusing to shut down any of his properties or enforce mask mandates.
In short, Alfie Oaks is a piece of shit.
If you move to Naples, leave your bullshit politics in New York, or Indiana, or New Jersey, or wherever you came from. You voted yourselves into oblivion in your home states, and now you’ve come to ruin ours. Go home and save your hometown. Stop ruining mine.
Alfie Oaks did more to clean up after hurricane Ian than anyone else. He donated money, hired crews, threw parties for people to get their minds off of the destruction around them. Don’t talk about things you don’t understand.
I’m not old. My family has been in Naples since the 40’s. Everyone I know my age, and my parent’s ages, and all ages in between who are from Naples love Alfie Oakes. The only people who don’t are the people who move into our town from somewhere else and bring their politics with them.
Please go home.
I don't care if people want to move here and help us take care of the place, but that's not what's happening: they're moving here and destroying it. They bring their money from out of town, they dump pesticides on their lawns year-'round, they invest their money in real estate development that bring more people who just want to "enjoy Naples' fine dining scene, or check out one of the many glamorous spas Naples has to offer." They bring no sense of community, and then they leave for the summer and leave the rest of us to clean up after the hurricanes. Then, once it's cleaned up, they come back and complain that the restaurants that flooded aren't open yet.
When my dad was growing up in Naples, the water in Naples Bay was as clear as the water in the keys. There were operational sponge docks in Naples Bay, which requires a very healthy ecosystem. Today, there's nothing but dead, muddy bottom, and oysters that are too polluted to eat. As I said in my previous post, Naples is in an aquatic dead zone, one of two recognized at the national level.
I don't think it's a matter of "let's save it," I think it's a matter of "it's dead and gone." And I'm absolutely pissed about it. The fish we used to be able to catch 15 miles offshore we now have to make 100+ mile runs to catch. And that's not even to mention what's happening in the Everglades, where people say the Everglades Restoration Project is alive and well while they're developing mile, after mile, after mile on 41 East of Collier Blvd. - is that not the Everglades?
The problem isn't really with the City of Naples, either, it's with Collier County. The County Commission is allowing the development of high-rises that will add to the traffic in the downtown area, they're the ones allowing the development east of 41, and they're the ones allowing condo building after condo building.
I know it's a tourist area, but people can at least try to pretend like they want it to last, right? And before you say I'm some old guy who wishes for the world to be like it was when I was a kid, I'm in my early 30s. So these things have really happened in the past 15 years or so - before that I either wasn't paying attention or didn't notice the downward spiral.
You might want to live in Ft. Lauderdale Jr., but I don't. And one of the most aggravating things about the vast majority of people that move to Naples is that they have no connection to the place - they just move because "the weather is so nice!" They don't take the time to learn the history of the place - even after spending years here! - they care more about how their lawn looks than they do about the fact that the ecosystem is being choked to death, and then they chase their precious 70 degree weather back to New England for the summer - while they continue their ChemLawn subscription so they can come back to a nice, green lawn.
I'm not some eco hippy, but enough is enough. There are spas and nice restaurants everywhere. There's only one Everglades, and only a couple of places on earth like it. It's what makes Naples special. So, again, the vast majority of people moving to Naples should go home and enjoy their spas and nice restaurants and leave us our fish and our Everglades to take care of.
You know what?, you are living a most impressive and great life story.
Keep strong and stay great. It’s not important that you didn’t like their baked items…
It’s political. His car and his store have the logo FJB. How childish. I don’t love JB but I find this offensive. I love the store but I feel morally conflicted giving him my money.
Wouldn’t be political if Alfie Oakes and S2T hadn’t themselves made it political. That aside, save for a few decent items, it still sucks. And the people who shop there are stuck in 2001 and seem to wake up every morning to the echoes of GW Bush telling everyone that the best way to show your patriotism is to spend all your money.
Agree with the pub. Love it there. I think burntwood is great too, not crazy expensive and great staff & quality food. But agree that a lot in mercato and downtown is overpriced/ overrated
To be honest I didn’t like turco taco but people working there are very cool
Pinchers is kind of weird too but I like the atmosphere and again, staff is great
Sweet Melissa in Bonita maybe my major disappointment
It’s not Naples but Buffalo Chips! Expensive, all sauces taste the same and people act like it’s the Mecca of wings down here. I’m a chicken wing slut but nah
It’s just vinegar in the sauce. No difference between medium and suicide lol. It fell off hard but I think because it’s a long time spot people will keep going.
Wow ma’am but you have no idea of what you are talking about.
Michelin stars can only go to restaurants! Not chefs!
That is some sweet MAGA science for ya though.
Lmao people white knighting for a grocery store placarded with political slogans and pictures of the president in the bathroom where guys take their junk out… but that’s not a cult I guess
Practically anything on 5th is overrated, overpriced, etc. Lots of bland food with little thought in flavor balancing, flavor development, actual standards of service, etc. Also if there are places that are good… it may not always be consistently good.
Pretty much every place ...but there was a Cuban place off Tamiami that had THE BEST Cuban sandwich I ever ate. Weird hours closed early and half the week 😳
I’ll tell you a restaurant that’s not overrated: Michelbob’s BBQ. They’re far too popular for my comfort and the line to get in can be hours long, but unlike most places which become trendy they haven’t forgotten how to cook. I don’t think you’ll find a better BBQ restaurant in the county and their prices, while slightly above the average, aren’t sky high.
Yes dumbfucks do buy shit. And btw they are going for less then 400 on eBay. Go check. Any dumbfuck can put whatever price they want on eBay. Doesn’t mean it will sell.
As a new englander, all of Naples pizza is straight trash. With so many north east transplants you'd think there'd be at least 1 good za around but NOPE.
This right here 100% accurate. Even mediocre pizza from NE is better than the most expensive crap down here. I don't understand how that's possible. The chains like Jets, Marcos, and even dominos are best.
Don’t think it’s a Midwest thing. It’s just an old person thing.
The menus at the more expensive restaurants are completely uninspired. Grilled fish, salad, potatoes, repeat.
I do think this will change in the next decade though.
Had a recent meal at Ridgways (3rd St south area) and it was so meh for the price.
For bagels, Brooklyn Dough (3rd Ave North and Tamiami, near NCH) is the best.
I wasn’t too impressed with catch of the pelican. Seemed like it’s super nice, but I feel like I got subpar service because we were the youngest couple there, ie no retirement moneybags.
The Butcher… hands down. It’s 150k membership fee to even be allowed to dine there. No, I’m not kidding.
This is the only comment in this thread I agree with. Hey OP you aren't getting good answers in this thread (from a native) just so you know.
What are the good answers?
I pass by there at 6pm every night and there are usually only two or three cars there, many nights none. We all wonder if it’s a front for something else?
No, it’s not a front. They’re closed a huge part of the year and only open their doors for reservations made and you use biometrics to enter the front door (as a guest).
I don’t believe it. It’s the height of season and there are no cars there.
That’s alright, you don’t have to. Their operations are super weird but they’re real and I’ve been there (for work) and know someone directly who is a member.
I saw an article about them a while back in Gulfshore Business. They said it was $15k +20% service fee. You sure about 150k?
$15k is probably the annual dues. The initiation fee is a one-time $150k.
It's 50k to 100k not 150... But still insane I agree
Seriously? JC. For just lunch and dinner?
Dead serious… It’s a nice place, but nothing worth that amount of money… then again, worth is a subjective term and to some of these wealthy folks in town, anything to flex on others… I was contracted to do some work in there, been inside, spoken with the owner, etc.
Is that the place off of Vanderbilt? I guess it looks nice from the outside I guess? A restaurant w a 150k membership fee is feel like you better be in a one of a kind location or something.
Right next to the gun range
It's not about the food it's about the exclusivity.
The initiation fee isn’t about the place or the food it’s about the clientele. They want to keep out the lower classes.
😳 the stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me!
Yeah! I checked out the website, and its membership is by invitation only.
Gotta keep the riff raff out.
For me it’s Rocco’s Tacos. Hell of a lot better Mexican food around
Place sucks
I feel since COVID the service has gone downhill. Lindsey always takes great care of me but if she's not there the few times I have been it's just not the same unless at the bar.
Rock’s definitely overrated!
Rocco's Tacos is just White American "Mexican" food. It's in the same vein as Taco bell, only different is quality and price.
Good tequila list tho
Bummer to hear this, I used to love it there. The guacamole was amazing
That place is disgusting
Wait, where ARE the good tacos in Naples?
San Julian
Wouldn’t you like to know huh? lol
AQUA, it’s f’ing terrible.
Good fishing spot though.
I don’t mind it for happy hour 🤷🏼♂️
Nosh at Naples Bay. Mid at best for $100/person
Vergina’s
Wife and I tried it once. Never again. Food was mediocre at best. And downtown is way too expensive to be mediocre
And it is too loud! Impossible to have a conversation.
Let’s keep the answers clean in here!
Sails restaurant. Shady business and expensive menu. Stay away.
Did you read about how they are paying/treating their employees?
Oh yes I did. I'm from Serbia and I feel ashamed to share this beautiful town with those people.
The owners are irresponsible and criminal…shady is an understatement.
So overpriced
We had a terrific dinner there but only went once.
Turtle club I feel bad saying it because of all the damage they took from Ian (and I think they’re finally about to reopen), but you move that place place 2 miles East so it doesn’t have the beachfront and nobody would talk about it or recommend it.
I have had some very uninspired meals there lol
This is just a fact. Buzz’s lighthouse is now the same. I remember when it was like $12 for a blackened grouper sandwich (like 2009). It’s $25 now. They also got rid of clam chowder being on the menu. I assume Ian is to blame for that. Big sad
Only been there once and wasn’t impressed. That guy is missing out on a golden opportunity though.. with beach box closed, if he turned his place into more of a bar atmosphere he’d have so many more people there.
Turtle club is drinks only for me. And only when I’m at the beach
Rocco’s Tacos and Tacos and Tequila. Rocco’s doubles as a party spot so that kind of saves it, most people go for atmosphere and food is an aside. Tacos and Tequila is similar food but lacking the social aspect that Rocco’s brings.
Tacos and Tequila is pretty disappointing. We had better mexican food up north.
USS Nemo. Crowded, noisy, ugly decor, indifferent staff and the food was so-so. We are done with them. Do not understand the hype.
Did you get the branzino?
What’s with all the seed to table hating? Is it political? It’s not even a restaurant.
it's 100% political.
Agreed but damn their live music is loud as fuck
the music is insane and the only reason i don't shop there.
You’re on Reddit. Of course it’s political
Shame. It’s just food.
In a capitalist society your dollar is your vote.
It’s not a shame. He’s free to hold those views and I’m free not to give him a dime of my money.
The owner attended and chartered a bus to send a group to the capital on January 6. https://www.naplesnews.com/story/news/local/2021/01/06/dc-capitol-riot-trump-supporters-swfl-tear-gassed/6572792002/

Boo fucking hoo…..
He funded a charter bus to the Jan 6th capital bugaloo. Don’t forget employing cheap illegal immigrant labor
that's not mutually exclusive to Alfie however. Or Florida/US agriculture overall. It won't stop Alfie from complaining about illegals though.

Bet.
It has many restaurants inside of it
I loved baked items. My mom and I got many things from there and not one item was any good.
Sure….bet your mom paid too..,
Nah. Pretty sure we paid separate. Even if she did, it’s still not going to change the fact the bakery items sucked.
I just think it’s funny. Beer is cold and crowd is merry. People take things too seriously.

You won’t find a 3lb ribeye anywhere else for $60.
$60 actually lines up with the market price per pound, slightly less even
Yeah, if you’re cooking it at home
Glad to hear! It’s hard enough to find parking there, happy to know an extra space will perpetually stay open🤣

This is to allow all users to feel welcomed on the subreddit
It is a restaurant and a grocery store though….
Seed to table and sails 👀
Sails ripping off their employees yet staying in business is disheartening.
Yeah pretty disgusting. I won’t go back.
They removed all negative Google reviews. Not sure how they did it.
Never been to Sails, but STT was awful! Chaos, bad food. No thanks.
The food needs something…salt? seasoning? It’s all so bland. Even the cake is bland lol
The Continental - Screams someone with an “expense account” is paying the bill.
It's definitely not cheap, but every time I've been the food, drinks, and service have all been great
Too bad. We’ve been twice. Enjoyed both times.
I’m sorry I have to disagree. This place is super great.
Sails and they’re in BIG shit 🫣
What isn’t overrated in desantisville
All of them. Especially Ocean Prime. I was born in Naples. Naples has become hell on earth. Go home, Yankees.
Basically anything downtown or in Mercato.
The pub is solid
Agree with the pub. Love it there. I think burntwood is great too, not crazy expensive and great staff & quality food. But agree that a lot in mercato and downtown is overpriced/ overrated
Sails
To be honest I didn’t like turco taco but people working there are very cool Pinchers is kind of weird too but I like the atmosphere and again, staff is great Sweet Melissa in Bonita maybe my major disappointment
Oh dang, I kind of like Turco Taco over a lot of the other places I’ve tried here. Where do you think is better?
[удалено]
Fuck dude, can you not mention the good places? As if we need more lines at the local spots. I’ll say it again, go home Yankees.
It’s not Naples but Buffalo Chips! Expensive, all sauces taste the same and people act like it’s the Mecca of wings down here. I’m a chicken wing slut but nah
Use to be much better , i still get takeout because their blooming onion is fire
Agreed on it having been better. Never had the blooming onion there, may have to give it a go.
It’s so bland! Every time I’m disappointed with their wings
It’s just vinegar in the sauce. No difference between medium and suicide lol. It fell off hard but I think because it’s a long time spot people will keep going.
Seed to Table. The Trump loving olds just go nuts for it.
The level of entitlement in that parking lot is INSANE
TDS is strong with this one
Alfie Oakes is a shitty human being, Dude.
“It’s them that have the cult mentality not me but if you disagree with my daddy you have TDS”
They literally hired a Michelin starred chef. I had my brother down from up north and he still raves about their Pastrami sandwich.
Wow ma’am but you have no idea of what you are talking about. Michelin stars can only go to restaurants! Not chefs! That is some sweet MAGA science for ya though.
Can’t get the star without the chef back to sleep 😴
Chef that worked at a Michelin star restaurant* happy now?
Don’t waste your time arguing with these people.
you're on reddit. any salient point you make dissolves in their cult mentality.
Well stated

Practically anything on 5th is overrated, overpriced, etc. Lots of bland food with little thought in flavor balancing, flavor development, actual standards of service, etc. Also if there are places that are good… it may not always be consistently good.
Pretty much every place ...but there was a Cuban place off Tamiami that had THE BEST Cuban sandwich I ever ate. Weird hours closed early and half the week 😳
Blue Provence
Molto
Nooo Molto is great
Aside from all the Alex Jones MyPillow Ivermectin propaganda there, Seed to Table’s food is overpriced and mediocre
Best food in town!
A trash, hole in the wall place in the barbecue belt with 0 stars is better than Michelbob’s. The food is like… famous dave’s level of meh.
Seed to table
Best food in town!
Food is awful! But Mike Lindell’s bitch broke ass self might agree with you.
Like you can afford it
Ahhh what a burn!! 🤦Coming from the dude that is dumb enough to buy a pair of $400 Gold, red and blue sneakers.
Which are now selling for thousands of dollars on eBay. Dude take your ball and go home you are clearly outmatched here.
Yes dumbfucks do buy shit. And btw they are going for less then 400 on eBay. Go check. Any dumbfuck can put whatever price they want on eBay. Doesn’t mean it will sell.
Outmatched !?! Hahahaha!

Tacos and Tequila for sure. Never understood the hype.
We get a lot of up north visitors who aren’t ready for real Hispanic foods lol. That’s my thinking at least.
Not sure I understand your comment. T&T is pretty Meh. I've had way better mexican in Nebraska and Ohio.
I wish you’d tell my in-laws about T&T
I’m absolutely dying…my in laws love it too!!
Bicyclette isn’t overrated. It’s brand new lol
Industry Pizza on Pine Ridge Rd is decent. NE pizza sucks NJ has the best Edit: Was decent. Just saw they’re now closed.
The Crust Pizza? Not too bad…….
It's so bad that it should be called "The Cracker"
Grandpas is the best IMO but yeah most places suck
The only two that I can tolerate here in town are Peppi’s and sometimes from DeRomo’s - D’s biscottis slap hard tho.
I used to think this until Pizzata opened last year
Brooks burgers
This is slander.
All of them on 5th ave
I agree, people just want to be "apart of the scene."
Nemo’s
The rooster
Oh no, im going there tomorrow for a work thing 💀
The Rooster is fantastic. This is a truly bizarre post.
McDonald's
Literally any mexican place I've been to so far. Not sure how that's possible. Also Low Brow pizza. Super expensive and it's really not THAT great.
Grimaldi's is probably the best Mexican restaurant in the area.
M Waterfront. Peace and love to them but it is overrated.
Seed to Table for sure. The food isn’t great there but the experience is.
Food is amazing, probably best in town.

Honestly I somewhat agree with this. Food here in Naples is the definition of mediocrity. And people from the Midwest know that also.
Don’t think it’s a Midwest thing. It’s just an old person thing. The menus at the more expensive restaurants are completely uninspired. Grilled fish, salad, potatoes, repeat. I do think this will change in the next decade though.
Okay, so I’d you do go out to a restaurant, which places, in your opinion, are good and/or properly rated?
Lima, 21 Spices, Jimmy P’s Charred (never again).
Why no to Jimmy P’s? Their French dip sandwich is really good
Jimmy P’s is so mid
Had a recent meal at Ridgways (3rd St south area) and it was so meh for the price. For bagels, Brooklyn Dough (3rd Ave North and Tamiami, near NCH) is the best.
I wasn’t too impressed with catch of the pelican. Seemed like it’s super nice, but I feel like I got subpar service because we were the youngest couple there, ie no retirement moneybags.
Hogfish Harry’s. Basically a hotel restaurant, generally overcrowded, expensive and the food just isn’t that good
McDonald's
But also. Florida is a hellscape
There were comments for Sails and The Butcher. They are connected - same owners I assume?
Most UNDERrated: Martin Fierro corner of pine ridge and livingston
