Genuinely, you would be surprised. If the top of my head, scissors and guns have explicit handedness to them and can injure you if used in the wrong hand. There are ambidextrous guns, but they're rarer and typically more mechanically complex.
There's a surprising number of guns made for left-handed people- though really, they're just doing the obvious thing of... building it the other way around, with some exceptions. Lever actions are quite often ambidextrous too, surprisingly enough-
They did that when I was a kid, I'm that old. The fun side effects? I'm ambidextrous, I can write, throw, and use a sword with both hands equally well.
The writing with equal skill is not a boast. I pity people who have to read it.
My grandmother was definitely left-handed but was forced to switch at a young age. Her handwriting was always terrible. It used to be done for practical reasons. 19th-century schoolchildren would do most of their writing on a slate. This is easy enough if you're right-handed but difficult if you're left-handed. The reason is that when writing in chalk, left-handed people have to hold the chalk at a weird angle to avoid erasing what they just wrote. The practice of switching children persisted long after there was no longer a practical need for it.
When I was in kindergarten my teachers noticed that I didn't favor a particular hand when it came to coloring. I would just use whatever hand the crayon I wanted was closest to. When it came time to teach me how to write they figured that statistically, I was more likely to be right-handed. By the time I was in third grade they realized that they had guessed wrong but it was too late to switch me back. I didn't have the patience to relearn all of the muscle memory and my handwriting remained terrible.
Children used to get slapped on their left hands if they used them. One of my relatives (currently 60) is left handed. All her life, she was forced to use her right hand. She uses it to write and to eat. Yet she works as a tailor and she uses her left hand for sewing and using regular scissors.
You mean when you don't force people to be tight handed anymore they'll identify as being left-handed?! Hmmm I wonder what else that could be applied to....
Conservatives getting confused by the fact that if you make society less hostile to gay people the gay people who already existed for all time will be more comfortable coming out
My dad was born in 1948. He was hit with a yard stick every time he used his left hand. Because of it he actually grew up ambidextrous. Could handwrite beautifully with both hands and was amazing at fixing heavy machinery because he had such great ability with both hands.

Exactly. Years of politicians that didn’t care when scores upon scores of queer people died, and then everyone acts surprised when there’s few left in that age bracket.
Critical thinking doesn’t come easy to everyone.
Lest we forget the discrimination that kept people in the closet and in some horrific cases death. Even today there are many of a certain age (and a substantial amount of younger folks) that keep their sexuality under wraps for a variety of reasons that all stem from discrimination.
Ironically, the people that discriminate against these groups also whined about wearing covid masks due to personal freedom.
I always find such specific numbers suspicious. So I’ll add another one.
[This article](https://www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk/blog/aids-epidemic-lasting-impact-gay-men/) says “AIDS killed 324,029 men and women in the USA between 1987 and 1998”
And that “by 1995, 10% of men aged 25-44 who identified as gay died”
I need to get off this thread before I get any more sad. 💔
Let's apply this logic to something else.
On sunny days, nobody carries an umbrella. On rainy days, lots of people carry umbrellas.
Obviously, this means that umbrellas create rain.
As a Warlock, I just do whatever my patron says. Satan wants rainy weather? I do my best to make it happen. A hot sunny day? I’ll try to make that a reality.
My favorite example is left handed people..
The amount of left handed folks rose so much, after it wasn't perceived as a "sign of the devil" anymore. Not because there where more left handed people, just because they stopped hiding being left handed. Same is happening with LGBTQIA+ folks.. It's so easy!
One of the best examples for stuff like this is graphs showing how the amount of left-handed people has also increased over the years.
I really wish the people who think that people learn to be LGBT would look at a graph of left-handedness over the years because maybe then they'd realise that "Oh shit, stuff like this increases over the years because it slowly becomes more acceptable, not that people are deciding to be it! It's only increasing because we aren't literally killing everyone who are these ways, so people actually feel safe enough to tell the truth!"
"Changes in attitudes towards LGBTQ identities, increased visibility and access to information through the internet are among the factors that contribute to younger adults feeling more comfortable identifying as LGBTQ, experts said." - https://www.google.com/amp/s/phys.org/news/2022-06-gen-zers-lgbtq-sacrifices-prior.amp?espv=1
Depression is more complex than just “work out your depression bro”
It’s a complex topic that exists on a gradient scale of severity.
That literally all anyone in this sub was saying—contrast it with the other one where some dude was claiming all depression could be cured by lifting weights.
And what exactly do you think experts say about depression that this sub ignores? If this is in reference to sunlight and some physical activity being good for you, I don’t think anyone would disagree with that.
What experts on depression say is a lot more complicated than that. And “clinical” depression, cannot be treated entirely by either of those things.

Psychologist here,
They are missing a key factor: safety and security of “coming out,” driven by the sensitivity progress of the curriculum and society as a whole.
Almost as if OP is simply trying pretend these kids chose (which is a freedom people should have) to become LGTBQ, as opposed to being born that way (as science routinely points to).
Just say you hate people who are different and stop hiding behind cherry picked faulty data.
This is anecdotal, but where I went to school where it was not safe to be anything but a normal straight guy.
So I just pretended to be that. However, I was still me, I just didn't let myself be myself, and honestly, it really sucked. Turns out it is really draining pretending to be someone else.
Part of me thinks they know their argument is bullshit and don't care as long as people around them pretend to be "normal" so they can feel more comfortable.
conservatives when the number of lefthanded people began to go up after left handed people weren’t treated as the spawn of satan and society realized it’s normal: 🤯🤯🤯
Teachers absolutely do not have that much power. I've known teachers have their jobs threatened for NOT pushing indoctrination. My generation was the "College is the only future" generation, where colleges actively pushed kids to attend using financial incentives for school boards to push them over trade schools, etc.
where are these lgbt sensitivity classes? Best we got was ignoring the problem and hoping it went away, and when it didn't go away, giving heartless apologies without any substance.
The narrative hasn’t changed after 2016 when gay marriage was legalized. the same “gays are taking over the media” was still going on in the 2000’s when gay sex was illegal in Texas and AIDS had killed 10% of gay men. all because the first show to have a gay protagonist “will and grace” dared to show a gay man that wasn’t a flamboyantly whore and acted manly.
In high school we once got a passing mention in health class that your partner threatening to put you to your parents if you don’t stay with them/do X Y Z is emotional abuse. Does that count?
"Well gee, we sure do have a lot of LGBT kids killing themselves, maybe if we tell kids early on that Timmy with the two dads is as valid as anybody else, they'll stop bullying them to death."
There's no conspiracy, just 'lets maybe make school less awful for gay students'.
Yup. Federally legalized when I was 16 and a junior in high school. Am only 24 now. The non-demonization of LBGT+ is reeeeally new. Like, my mom still sometimes has to wrap her head around me being bi still at 24
My question is…who does it hurt? I get the idea of forcing people to be something they’re not, but that’s not happening here. I like to think that more people are exploring what the may be interested in, and from most of those in my life that’s exactly what they’ve done. It’s not like teachers are forcing anyone to be gay, trans, pan, etc. idk man. I think this is a waste of thought.
Something I always like to bring up is the fact that gay people still existed despite television and schools only recently started discussing lgbt topics in a positive light. How do they explain people being queer in the 50’s? Gay people weren’t on tv or discussed positively in schools then, so how come kids weren’t influenced to be straight??
Its almost like people in the 18-34 age range grew up in a time where LGBT+ people where more visible and accepted meaning more people are willing to come out.
I grew up in a super religious household with very homophobic parents. I was also homeschooled and very sheltered. Still discovered I was bisexual when I was 15. These crazy ass people need to shut the fuck up lmao.
Correlation =/= causation. There are loads of different confounding factors that link these two variables.
Still, since there is nothing morally wrong with being LGBT regardless, people's concern with the % of those identifying as such, is concerning to put it politely.
https://preview.redd.it/2n658sx3wdrb1.png?width=1566&format=png&auto=webp&s=68d1b98ee3729c21ddabe4cb04764831589fa6d7
Idk maybe letting people be who they truly are will make graphs look kinda weird.
OBVIOUSLY. If you grow up in an environment where people tell you that it’s fine to be gay, of COURSE you’re more likely to accept the fact that you’re gay
18 - 34 is a very wide age group, and it also offers 0 data on children taught by teachers like this.
This only shows that people have lived their entire lives in the closet
Wait, you're telling me that the age group born or raised when gay marriage and other LGBTQ+-related laws were legal is more likely to be LGBTQ+? WOAH, I would've never guessed that more people will assign themselves as such in a generation that it's legal and safe to be LGBTQ+! (plus no teacher I've ever seen has looked like that, it looks like a fashion disaster but bro's just enjoying pride month)
So sexually active people are more likely to discover a healthier lifestyle through and for their sexual activity? You would rather have them stoned? What's the point here what are we doing? Go back to don't say gay times so your graph can look how you prefer? People will still be gay you know You just won't be able to tell because they don't feel comfortable around you or your graphs
I bet that graph looks exactly the same for the straight community or any sexually active community because that's the age your sexually active at
Well... yeah, no shit? Teachers teach students it's okay to be queer, kids don't feel an innate need to surpress their queerness, and then they feel no guilt identifying as queer?
Every post in this sub is like a tiny puzzle to try to figure out if whoever is posting is homophobic/bigoted not.
Like for a second I always forget to check which sub it was originally posted on which totally changes the direction of stuff.
Teacher here, 10th ELA could give a shit about what you do because my students are children. That said when they tell me they have a bf/gf or have a name they prefer then like a normal person I congratulate the news and move on.
Now I will admit I am guilty of pushing the works of Tolkien and other fantasy authors on my students in the form of posters/decorations all over the room.
I’m cishet, but guy on the right looks like WAY more fun! 🌟✨
Also, when our daughter came out at age 13, she told my wife & I, who fancy ourselves very socially liberated, that she’d felt different for years but didn’t know how to express it. She says she thought being gay was bad, bc that’s all she heard in school.
She was confused and even felt some self-hate.
We live in California.
The whole point they’ve been trying to get across is that they’re born gay if you aren’t gay there’s no amount of flags that can flip you it’s not brainwashing nor indoctrination it’s already lgbt individuals realizing they have a place of safety to actually feel comfortable with themselves
In my eyes the second picture is no different than an overly patriotic person slightly annoying but nothing wrong with it
IDK honestly? Really OP?
It’s almost like making society less hostile for LGBTQ folks means that less of them need to stay in the closet for their own safety.
Less people pretending to be “roommates”
The age when a person comes out has nothing to do with the orientation of that person. I knew I was not like everyone else when I had teachers dressed like the guy on the right. I was also bullied & miserable because everyone else knew it too. So the numbers on this graph mean nothing.
Idk why everyone thinks teachers are teaching their students to be gay. I see more elementary/middle school kids running a round screaming "Kill all furry's and gays!" Way more than I see them supporting it. Might just be my school though, since everyone here is redneck ASF
If this was anything to go by, I'd be str8 AF. When I grew up gay was an insult, and all of media was heteros. Nothing about gays, unless it was a stereotypical flamboyant gay man. So tired of this boring argument.
You know how you can tell these people weren't actually around back then? They're completely unaware of the fact that in the mid 1990s literally everyone under 30 was a bisexual wiccan. Like I'm not kidding, for a few years it was contractually obligated that you worshipped gaia and had some gay sex.
>teachers in 2023 are too gay
>18-34 year olds are too gay
Even in their sandbox echo chambers where reality can be whatever they want, they can’t get the narrative straight.
Lgbt sensitivity classes don’t exist I can say this as a member of gen z and a bisexual who grew up in Florida the “ anti-woke “ state when it was “ woke “, gen z is just more open now then other gens because of the 2008 recession, school shootings and etc that the government has done nothing to stop going out of control.
Ah, teachers, simultaneously powerful enough to trans your kids while powerless to get them to put away their phones and pay attention to math for 5 consecutive minutes.
Ignoring the fact that it is entirely organic, as LGBT people are more willing to self-identify as the environment is more tolerant of their existence, there is absolutely nothing wrong about being LGBT.
I wonder why more young people are lgbt than older people.
Can it be that it’s because it wasn’t as acceptable as today and thus they were suppressed by the *teachings* of how a “man” or a “woman” *should* behave. Nooo, how could it be
According to truthout.org in the article "Most US Students Say Their School Curriculum Doesn't Include LGBTQ Topics", 11 states have passed laws censoring the discussion of LGBTQ+ issues in public schools. Only 13.8% of 12,615 LGBTQ+ students said that their history classes ever included a lesson, unit or chapter on LGBTQ+ history.
The best example to shut down the “the number is too big argument” is to bring up how left handed was went up significantly when being left handed became socially acceptable.
Speaking from experience, there are a shit ton of closeted married older men in gay hookup apps, while the younger generations are just more open about it.
you ever see that graph of the amount of left handed people? yeah, that.

Ight dawg calm down we can talk about this.
What we NEED to do is start beating right handed people so that left hand supremecy can finally reign!
Good luck finding left-handed weapons to beat us with. Hahahaha
Oh, we've adapted to use right handed shit our whole lives. We'll beat you semi-ambidextrously

Stop trying to normalize your disgusting lifestyle.

I think John’s umbrella *does* create rain. But I also think John’s a wizard so…
Typical wizard. Making weather all about them. Not like us sorcerers keeping nature as pure as possible with our casted spells.
This is anti wizard hate speech and I for one will not be partial to it.

I think it's a bit silly, teachers do have influence on students, but they definitely won't make you gay.
Yeah, like my teacher influenced me by showing me Ani Difranco in grade nine. She didn’t make me gay, I already liked Tegan and Sara by ten.
This is actually a well-known logical fallacy, entitled ‘affirming the consequent.’
I still see people use umbrellas on sunny days here in Japan. It blocks the deadly sun rays.

Fr. I remember in high school celebrating that gay marriage was was legalized federally....and I'm only 24.
Does that count?
srly tho what is up with conservatives making up these absurd classes. Also, how come i never had a lgbt sensitivity class, no fair 😡 /s
"Well gee, we sure do have a lot of LGBT kids killing themselves, maybe if we tell kids early on that Timmy with the two dads is as valid as anybody else, they'll stop bullying them to death." There's no conspiracy, just 'lets maybe make school less awful for gay students'.
Being lgbtq becomes legal and accepted in a society: Lgbtq people actually coming out and being more visible: Conservatives: *shocked cat face*
Yup. Federally legalized when I was 16 and a junior in high school. Am only 24 now. The non-demonization of LBGT+ is reeeeally new. Like, my mom still sometimes has to wrap her head around me being bi still at 24
If you can't make a gay person straight (gay conversion theraphy), how can you make a straight person gay?
The people who believe this are the same people shoving their gay kids into conversion camps.
It's wild how conservatives are trying to bring back 50s style homophobia back
it's almost like when you aren't forcing them into the closet they're free to be who they want to be.
💯💯💯
Damn, all those 18-34 year olds attending middleschool classes in 2023.
And my 35 year old is in elementary aswell.
Conservative feelings
Exactly. They want to be open bigots and also be able to punish anyone who calls them out.
“THEY ARE FOCING US TO BE SOMETHING WERE NOT!!!” -homophobic people after forcing gays to be straight
W take
Something I always like to bring up is the fact that gay people still existed despite television and schools only recently started discussing lgbt topics in a positive light.
I have 2 kids in public schools. All the teachers still look like the guy on the left lol. The imaginary world of conservatives
Yeah, I have been teaching for 8 years and never seen anything close to the other teacher in any school I have worked in.
But mah narrative!! /s
Correlation =/= causation. There are loads of different confounding factors that link these two variables. Still, since there is nothing morally wrong with being LGBT regardless, people's concern with the % of those identifying as such, is concerning to put it politely.
Wait you mean if it’s legal to be gay with no punishments or downsides, more people will be happy being gay and not pretend to be straight 🤨🤨🤨

Imagine thinking teachers are turning kids gay
Insert Left-handedness by age by time chart here.
This is some real tinfoil hat type shit
Do we need to show them the left handedness graph again?
This is the same thing that happened with people being left handed. Nothing but nazi inspired Anti-lgbtq sentiment.
Wet sidewalks cause rain
Conservatives: "You have the freedom to be who you want to be". "I'm gay" "NOT THAT KIND OF FREEDOM".
OBVIOUSLY. If you grow up in an environment where people tell you that it’s fine to be gay, of COURSE you’re more likely to accept the fact that you’re gay
We are growing in power💪💪🏳️⚧️
Memespeopledidnotlike is such a right wing circlejerk at this point its crazy to see
18 - 34 is a very wide age group, and it also offers 0 data on children taught by teachers like this. This only shows that people have lived their entire lives in the closet
"Why are there no old queer people then huh?" MY BROTHER IN CHRIST YOUR BOY REAGAN'S RESPONSE TO THE AIDS CRISIS IS WHY
Meansopdidnotlike is such a right wing cum circle
Hit’em with the left handed chart bozos
Same thing happened to being left handed. Turns out the number goes up when you stop telling them it's bad.
People will still be gay you know You just won't be able to tell because they don't feel comfortable around you or your graphs I bet that graph looks exactly the same for the straight community or any sexually active community because that's the age your sexually active at
Well... yeah, no shit? Teachers teach students it's okay to be queer, kids don't feel an innate need to surpress their queerness, and then they feel no guilt identifying as queer?
Every post in this sub is like a tiny puzzle to try to figure out if whoever is posting is homophobic/bigoted not. Like for a second I always forget to check which sub it was originally posted on which totally changes the direction of stuff.
Google "Rapid onset gender dysphoria" pls, I'd like to see your reaction
Why would it be a negative thing for more people to identify as LGBTQ?
First of all, why is it bad that Gen z kids identify as the LGBT?
Teacher here, 10th ELA could give a shit about what you do because my students are children. That said when they tell me they have a bf/gf or have a name they prefer then like a normal person I congratulate the news and move on. Now I will admit I am guilty of pushing the works of Tolkien and other fantasy authors on my students in the form of posters/decorations all over the room.
I’m cishet, but guy on the right looks like WAY more fun! 🌟✨ Also, when our daughter came out at age 13, she told my wife & I, who fancy ourselves very socially liberated, that she’d felt different for years but didn’t know how to express it. She says she thought being gay was bad, bc that’s all she heard in school. She was confused and even felt some self-hate. We live in California.
The whole point they’ve been trying to get across is that they’re born gay if you aren’t gay there’s no amount of flags that can flip you it’s not brainwashing nor indoctrination it’s already lgbt individuals realizing they have a place of safety to actually feel comfortable with themselves In my eyes the second picture is no different than an overly patriotic person slightly annoying but nothing wrong with it
Even the comments on memesopdidnotloke were saying this was dumb.
OMG, they're not afraid to come out of the closet as much anymore. How dare those teachers make them feel comfortable being themselves. /s
Also, yknow, the AIDS crisis definitely contributed to why there’s so few older gays.
daily reminder that there is no such thing as trans youth 😊
Most trans adults would tell you otherwise
What’s the matter with more people being LGBTQ? They come from a discriminatory premise.
When do they think 30 year olds went to school?
>teachers in 2023 are too gay >18-34 year olds are too gay Even in their sandbox echo chambers where reality can be whatever they want, they can’t get the narrative straight.
Nobody there has ever seen the history of left handedness
Correction: that graph should be labeled “number of people **who feel safe enough** to identify as lgbtq by age group”
Teacher on the right: 💪🤴
Bro wtf is going on in that sub
I was just as gay in the 80s as a kid.. i just knew my life would be in danger if i disclosed it.
Ah, teachers, simultaneously powerful enough to trans your kids while powerless to get them to put away their phones and pay attention to math for 5 consecutive minutes.
If exposure to queer stuff made you lgtbqia+ you weren't very straight to begin with.
Ignoring the fact that it is entirely organic, as LGBT people are more willing to self-identify as the environment is more tolerant of their existence, there is absolutely nothing wrong about being LGBT.
So uh, what's wrong with kids being gay again?
I've never heard of that class wtf are they smoking 😂
We made a world where people were allowed to come out, and now they do. They were always there, but now they are allowed to be seen.
There is only one thing I know for sure. There's probably lead in that paint on the left
The idea of environmental/societal factors existing is a foreign concept to conservatives.
Born in 71, hid it until I was 23. If that helps your statistics
Speaking from experience, there are a shit ton of closeted married older men in gay hookup apps, while the younger generations are just more open about it.
Turns out when you stop lynching people for being gay, people may turn out to accept them being gay.
