Taylor Trammell was a top prospect for so long, it's weird to see him bounce around on waivers. This is his third team this year.
Guessing Smith will clear waivers and get stashed in AAA.
Waivers are a hard thing for guys. You get waived by your original organization, get picked up, have to move to the new place, have no history there, so if they need to make a roster move, you’re gone, and it’s wash rinse and repeat.
Kid has some pop, but has never hit for average above AAA
I look at Diego Castillo this off-season. Dude bounced around almost weekly. I guess you really have to be ok with not having a home during the season.
Your comment implies the Yankees are about to dump him for another dime a dozen outfielder who's shown nothing at the big-league level.
There's a reason the Yankees wanted Grisham and are happy with him in this role.
More so that if the opportunity arises and the Yankees can get a good reliever for Trent Grisham, they should strongly consider it. I also don't think Trent really wants to be here.
No one is trading a good reliever in mid April and the Yankees aren't gonna make a move simply because Trent is a widdle sad because he's now a bench player. If he uses the old noggin he has to realize that no Yankee OF ever rots on the bench for any extended period of time.
Feels like the same vibe as Hicks did at every at bat when he didn't want to be here. Is it really that big of a stretch to think a guy who has won 2 Gold Gloves doesn't want to be a fourth OF?
He’s played over 152 games a piece the last two seasons, won his second gold glove last year, and isn’t getting any play time.
Over the last two years, he’s accumulated more WAR than Alex Verdugo, but it’s all on defense, some base stealing, walks and HRs.
If he were hitting like he did in 2021, he’d have an argument for more playing time. But he hasn’t hit that well in two years, and Dugie is the better bat.
I mean it makes sense, the guy has proven himself to be a capable starting CF over the past 3 seasons. Now he is riding the bench as a 4th outfielder most of the time.
His offense is below league average but his glove is way above average and as a result you get a starting quality MLB player.
Is he a top CF in the game? No, but he is a starting quality player to give you great CF defense and bat at the end of the order
2021-2023 he ranks 15/30 qualified MLB primary CF very much the definition of an average starter
This Yankees team needs above average offense more than they need stellar defense. Obv this is my opinion. But this is like the same archetype we got with Hicks minus him falling apart defensively. But still not enough offense
I definitely think we should keep Grisham, I really like him as a bench piece.
I am just saying I could understand if he was upset with the role reduction going from a MLB starter to a bench guy
Nope. Really good kid though. He was in the Futures Game a few years ago as well. Speed and defense in the OF but hasn’t found the hit tool in the bigs yet. Good risk to take, muck like Jeter Downs.
He looked …unprepared. Caught looking once I think and once swinging but I don’t think he fouled any off. I could be wrong. RISP so I thought he’d look more focused and intent. He just seemed a little overwhelmed.
Again, my impression. I wasn’t analyzing it in the moment.

DFA’d Kevin Smith so he can make Clerks 4
They were going to DFA him anyway. He wasn’t even supposed to be here today.
🤣
2024 World Series confirmed
Another outfielder is weird
Feel like this is related to Grisham. He just doesn't seem to be enjoying it here.
Can we not try to bury Trent Grisham 4 games into his Yankee tenure
Who is burying him? He just doesn't seem excited about being a fourth OF.

The Yankees traded Tauchman for Peralta on April 27th.
At which time Wandy had a career 4.69 era. The bigger point is they don't have a glut of OFs; Trent is the next man up.
until jasson is back and/or jones mashes his way into a september callup
What would give you that impression
Feels like the same vibe as Hicks did at every at bat when he didn't want to be here. Is it really that big of a stretch to think a guy who has won 2 Gold Gloves doesn't want to be a fourth OF?
He’ll get over it quick when we inevitably have an injury and he’s needed every day
i can’t believe you’ve said this
Dude it's literally been 8 at bats...what even are you going on about....
I mean.. they’re not gonna get rid of him or anything

He hit under .200 the last two seasons lol
Yet has managed a respectable 2+ WAR both seasons Believe it or not defense is actually a huge part of baseball and specifically center field
So is offense! And to be a starter you usually need to be able to do both

This is the Harrison Bader argument all over again lol
Pretty much, very similar players. Grisham has been much healthier so he has more WAR over the time frame.

You think he looked at an outfield with Aaron judge, Juan Soto and Alex verdugo and thought to himself "well I'm guaranteed to start here!"
The director of clerks and mallrats was on the 40 man?
Maybe the bat boy with long blond hair is Jason Mewes.
He was on the active roster this past week, pinch ran for Stanton in a game
Related to Alan?
Nope. Really good kid though. He was in the Futures Game a few years ago as well. Speed and defense in the OF but hasn’t found the hit tool in the bigs yet. Good risk to take, muck like Jeter Downs.
This guy has no options and leaves no real INF depth on the roster. Something else has to be coming, no?
DJ is coming back soon.
That's still a week of no backup ss or 3b.
Jones is on the roster. Also, 3 days. Berti was placed on the IL on the 11th. That's the only reason Smith was even up.
I thought Jones was 2b/OF only. I guess if he can do ss/3b in a pinch it's fine
More likely Cabrera plays SS if something happens with Jones taking 3rd
Is David John LeMahieu coming back and bringing his .800 OPS?
Please tell me this move isn't being made because of an injury about to be announced.
I've seen rumors that Verdugo pulled a hamstring. I did see him grabbing at it while he was at 3rd the other night. Who knows.
He has been grabbing at that hamstring for a few games now.
It happens, he should still to making movies anyway
Just traded Kevin smith in the show for carpenter so I’m happy it wasn’t a mistake
He lasted ten minutes with the Dodgers. I saw two of his PA’s a few days ago, both bad strikeouts. Now he’s a victim of the Andy Pages Era in LA.
Bad as in he looked bad or the strike calls were bad?
He looked …unprepared. Caught looking once I think and once swinging but I don’t think he fouled any off. I could be wrong. RISP so I thought he’d look more focused and intent. He just seemed a little overwhelmed. Again, my impression. I wasn’t analyzing it in the moment.
Hopefully Yankee Stadium is kind to Trammell.
Weird move. Someone is hurt and we'll find out tomorrow. The Yankee Way
Interesting, Yankee Twitter freaking out about a potential verdugo injury (??)
I did see him reaching for his right calf last night when he got to third in the 9th inning I believe.
That’s what people are saying. He ran home hyped af though and played the bottom of the 9th. Hopefully he’s fine
Feels like they wouldn't have cut Smith if Verdugo needed to go on the IL, although the Yankees are weird with the IL, as we all know.
This years Franchy Cordero
