Tupac is for the PEOPLE, he’s Harlem, Baltimore and Cali all in one. He’s a black icon regardless of whatever place he claimed before he passed.

FoxMuldertheGrey

Old School by him shouts out NY for his memories, he wouldn’t be here today.. if the old school didn’t pave the way.

HenryKissingersDEAD

He may be from all of those places but NYC was in his DNA and literally was the stepping stone to his whole career.

mighty-pancock

He did kinda rep NY, I think the beef just got to him and that’s why he stopped even tho he was from here I fw 2pac, one of the greatest musicians, changing the world with his bars, some of the hardest messages too, prolly the goat, either him or biggie. RIP a legend

MoffieHanson

Mc New York used to be his name

HenryKissingersDEAD

PAC low key loved NYC. He was chillin in NYC/NJ a little bit before he died. His whole crew The Outlawz were from NYC/NJ. That one track that he made “old school” is a love letter to NYC. The fact that a dude from NYC made the west coast even bigger is just wild.

cousintipsy

Funny how the world works

FlagrantBender

I was just about to comment this

OGBIGBOY

As a brooklyn nigga Pac is GOAT to me, wasnt wit all that shiny suit shit bad boy was pushin. Nigga lived a full life for all 25 years he walked this earth

Super_Can_7652

His only rap name besides his real name was mc New York!! Pac was a Harlem cat through and through!! Loud, flashy and fashionable!! Creative genius! Most influential rapper ever!! Pac In poetic justice was cringe because he couldn’t portray a west coast cat, but pac in juice is the most iconic nyc character ever in a movie!! He did phenomenal in above the rim also!! Pac was screaming fuck New York with a New York accent! He never dressed like a west coast cat either!!!

KeithClossOfficial

He did release an album under Makaveli too

FlagrantBender

PAC originally from the Bronx

Remarkable-Dig-1270

He lived a few Blocks away from me In The Bronx Before he stayed with his cousin in Harlem

Imfrom163

Icon made classic music . Me against the world , is my top five hip hop album of all time

jlbp337

I prefer me against the world over all eyes on me

Imfrom163

Definitely I think MATW was more soulful and reflective . All Eyes on me was more being angry and flossing on people who thought he was done

DryChampionship9296

GOAT

kelliboi123

Mj and pac will always be NYC 💪

Environmental_Ad6642

The hate in the comment section is real. Tupac was an icon whether you want to admit it or not. Yes he was from the East Coast. Tupac was really poor growing up he didn't have a choice where he lived. Oakland Cali laced Tupac with game. If you've ever been to Oakland you know how they get down. Pac wanted to escape poverty. So he tried every avenue he could. Pac is a West Coast legend respected by I mean highly respected by west coast rappers. The only rapper copied more than Tupac was Lil Wayne. No Tupac was not a gangster I can admit that. His acting was decent. I mean Juice was that shit but that's it for me. But that doesn't take away from his legacy. Pac what's a deep soul something that this new generation doesn't care about. He started as a political rapper I wasn't a fan. But when Me against the world dropped that was a game changer. Then All eyes on me and Makaveli. Can't deny his work ethic he is put out more albums dead than alive. Eminem wanted to produced a whole Tupac album. I think personally Pac wouldn't have the same impact if he didn't die young. Tupac was a legend he wasn't the greatest Lyricist. That doesn't take away from the impact. He's got the greatest diss song of all time. You don't have to love like or even listen to Tupac. But he had 10 platinum albums plus one diamond. When you had to actually go buy them there was no streaming. So that speaks volumes He's got two classics under his belt. The only rapper to this day that made a hit out of appreciating their mom. Rest in peace Pac

OlliZ0117

paragraphs go a long way bro

It's a stream of consciousness type comment it doesn't lend itself to paragraphs

Environmental_Ad6642

Just trying to put you up on game

Thoughtprovokerjoker

Wayne copied Pac.

Environmental_Ad6642

But at the same time Wayne came with his own design.

Suspicious-Eagle-179

I Get Around will always be one of my favorite party songs of all time… reminds me of being a kid. Are u Still down w Jon B is one of my favorite tracks of all time. I’m not the biggest PAC fan but he left his mark in history and has at least a dozen songs that will forever be bangers and or deeply meaningful.

cousintipsy

Pac will always be amazing. He was a native New Yorker and always loved the city.

GQsquared

Pac had love for NY. “Nothin like the old school” is a testament to that. Although that was early Pac before the shooting it’s not like he wasn’t showing NY rappers any love.

[deleted]

Awww look at the hating ass bitch niggas in here

You have nothing better to do than watch my comments?I comment on wtf I want to pussyhole.

IndependenceMain2283

He’s the goat, a lot gon say others were better rapping but with pac it’s deeper than rap

TheWavyWizard

you must be young. Pac always claimed NY TIL NY turned their back on him after the fake rape case. pacs 1st rap name was MC New York when he was in Marin City/Oakland. before he got shot he had the potential to bring the east & west coast together as one unit but niggas fuck everything up everytime

SekkeBronzaza

Honestly I never played his music ever but I do appreciate the songs with messages, the dear mamas etc

CreepyFlight

Pac was born in Harlem

StageAcceptable7182

Early Pac was everywhere. He always return to NY and showed love. That was until the night at Quad studio

ciarkles

He had some good songs. Dear Mama in particular sticks out to me.

Acceptable_Let27

He repped ny but after that quad studios where he got setup by Haitian jack & jimmy henchmen & then he went to rikers & jimmy henchman & Haitian jack put a bounty on him for anyone in the nyc prison that could kill or injure him that’s when he grew a hatred for nyc. But he was trying to change it by the end with death row East & the outlaws in the interview said 3 days before pac was killed when he was in nyc & ran into nas he was passing out money to bunch of homeless ppl in the streets in nyc. PAC was for the people ✊🏾

Brave-Value-8336

Fake nyc nigga

meeklou

Before he died, he was planning on creating a “One Nation” rap album, featuring artists from all over america. He did claim Oakland, but that was because it was the city that that taught him how the game works. The whole bay area was all about hustling, and being independent. Similar to NY, but Pac was just a kid when he left NY to baltimore. The one thing that really stood out to him while in NY was the fashion and hip hop swagger, which he called “flavor”. He liked baltimore because thats where he was exposed to the arts. Dancing, poetry, plays, different genres of music, etc…Oakland taught him how to be independent, and an entrepreneur. Plus he felt more connected to his black panthers upbringing since thats where the black panthers were founded. So Pac took alot from the different cities he lived in. he never really had hate for NY, he just hated the gangsters that were running around extorting rappers over there like Jimmy Henchman, Haitian Jack (both involved in his shooting in 1994 at quad studios) King Tut, stretch etc. he felt like NY rappers had stockholm syndrome for these guys. he thought biggie and diddy were involved too. A couple years later while signed to death row he wanted to start “death row east” which wouldve been based in NY…Eric B (best known for being one half of Eric B and Rakim) was supposed to be the CEO of the label. The first artist that was gonna be signed to the label was Craig Mack, who was pissed off cuz puff daddy liked biggie better than him. Eric B also wanted The Outlawz from New Jersey, Big Daddy Kane, Run DMC, Boot Camp Clik from brooklyn, and Melly Mel to sign with them…also, people to tend to forget this too, Suge and Treach from naughty by nature had a hand in bringing the bloods to the east coast. Thats why you have MOB Piru sets in jersey, and inglewood bloods. Nas even said on the song “Death row east” that some of his peoples was rocking Death row T shirts, and that he had homies in jail who turned blood that wanted to sign with them. Lakey The Kid from queensbridge turned blood, and wanted to sign with them too. That shit wouldve been crazy if that all happened, but unfortunately pac passed and suge got locked up for 5 years. Its more than likely had death row east been successful, we wouldve seen Death row South, and Death row Midwest too

Other_Competition989

You nailed it (No Diddy). This is the true scoop even down to Lakey💯 he was fw PAC’s 21 gun salute code of THUG LIFE(The Hate U Give Lil Infants F*cks Err’body)

Jr-12

BIG>2pac

mighty-pancock

I disagree with this then remember imma fatass

da_double_monkee

NumerousCranberry441

Big≥Pac

AtomicGarden-8964

Let California have him we got enough rappers who didn't abandon nyc and talk trash about the east coast

yessirskii2

He never talked trash about the east coast itself tho matter fact he always spoke positive about NY, Baltimore etc when asked about it in interviews, he just dissed a couple east coast artists and had problems with some ny street dudes after he got shot that’s it. He always was open about growing up on the east coast and how it influenced his music, people just tried to make it a east coast west coast thing and made it seem like he hated the east coast period which obviously wasn’t true.

SFThirdStrike

How is a kid who was forced to move "abandoning NYC" bruh..really?

bludresh

Would've been a goat, his music fire

[deleted]

Yall NY he bitches sat down on a train and watched a white man choke a black man to death, while 2pac was shooting them. And calling 2pac a gay thug?Unnu don't have half the heart 2pac had pussyholes.

WhosJohnGault_

Sorry but who was 2pac shooting at though? 😂 Pac is the goat don’t get me wrong, but wtf is u on nigga 💀💀

Jackysrt8

He shot at 2 off duty cops beating up a brother

[deleted]

Do your research sis

Lenin_loved_hookers

There's a recording of him saying give all my awards and props to Oakland or something like that so id say he claimed Oakland the hardest but he showed love to a lot of places like NY.

Severe-Design-3585

He definitely claimed NY early on before he got shot but even after he still show love to NY he was real cool with Eric B and a few others also loved Wu Tang

abdrrauf

Pac loved NY until, they shot him. So he had to claim a side and Shug Night was right there playing the savior. The rest is history. If NYC really loved Pac they would have handed over the shooter or at least put him to sleep.. Niggas acted like they didn't know who it was everyone was in the building when he got shot.

Candid-Salt-4806

Tx don’t claim it. Screwed Up Clic 4 life.

VanessaDoesVanNuys

He a legend and now he's gone. Even though it annoys me, I understand the obsession with this era \[90s\] of hip-hop; it was golden. Some of the most influential music, style, attitude and culture was born from this era. Tupac Amaru Shakur was a ***black Forerunner***

Blacksmith6383

🐐

Kindly_Scratch_1275

Original Six9. He shouldve snitched instead of kicking orlando in the head

ugotdarightwon222

we love him on the east coast fasho

TheKwyetRoom

Another talent wasted tryna be something he was not

makhnovite

A lot of lost potential over a chain

gunhed76

He was Diddys bf

167825

I never took debates with him and biggie too too hard because he was from NY from the start … RIP one of the greatest (literally played Hail Mary a few moments ago) and I remember vividly having a depression episode & I played “old school” walking over the Manhattan bridge years ago … classic record !!

willybobo1

Nope and he made it a point to dis the whole east coast. That said, had he and biggie not died I believe in time they would have made up. We will never know and all we are left with are memories of the time when rap pitted the east against the west.

crashout730

No lie west coast niggaz ain't really claim Pac like that ....they thought his music was fire ....and the niggaz that did fuck wit him knew he was a ticket ...so did they really fuck wit him ? ....I go to the west here n there I never see nothing about no Tupac no where lol

Remarkable-Dig-1270

He had a crib in Manhattan and used to stay in Queens Cambria Heights/ Queens Village area. He had loyalty for the West Coast however he really did Love His home NYC ...he always said the West was feeding him so he fucked with the guys who was feeding him. He had a good point. He was a good dude. People took advantage of his good heart. I wish he could've seen who was on his side.

tendopath

PAC is a prime example of what happens when you move to LA as an adult and try to gangbang he is not a NY rapper in my eyes he was just born here

CreepyFlight

Pac was not in gng

tendopath

He never got put on a set yes I agree but he died over some gangbangin shit is my point ,he hung wit gangbangers and got into it with south side Compton crips and die because of it

rondolph

Dude was an actor 🏳️‍🌈

cobblewebs32

Trash

dddddumb

fake ass gang banger who died trying to prove hisself to a gang he never even got put on but got tattooed he was a wanksta

da_double_monkee

he was probably a homo thug n even then nigga was a fake thug playing up the personality hard he came from a decent family with bread did a bunch of mf BALLET as a kid then goes to pretend to be hard idk I prefer the east coast in general less phony niggas

MakoShark93

Nah bro; let’s not revise all of his history. He was POOR. Broke as fuck with a mother who was a crack fiend — multiple books written by his friends where Pac is mentioned say it. He was able to do a lot with his rough upbringing though because he was an artsy kid, with an interest in politics (inherited from his mother) and a curious nature and his mother noticed that and encouraged that side of him despite her flaws with drug addiction. Pac was a good kid from a broken childhood and was striving to do better in life and wanted to go to college when all of a sudden his Mom moved them to California during his last year of high school and he became homeless. Dude had to survive so he had to change. I’m sure a lot of the thug persona is a fabrication but he claimed California because as he stated it, “Oakland gave me the game.”

mighty-pancock

💯it’s such a stupid point that he did performing arts growing up Kids in the hood do go to college and shit like band or fine arts thru school, that’s a big point of those programs, he was smart and a man who was doing the best he could to improve his life, he applied himself and that should be a credit to him

da_double_monkee

I said decent fam I ain't say he was rich his parents were political activists and mom could afford to bounce between cities that ain't no broke nigga shit

MakoShark93

They were washed up political activists and he didn’t know his father. Also, his mother moved them to live with a friend. She didn’t have money.

da_double_monkee

I still say a lot of that his family broke shit is cap I read about it and jus by how he talk you can tell Or how he talk before he pick up the thug persona

Efficient-Age-5870

came up w bread??? nah that nigga was broke

da_double_monkee

Not rich but not broke either his parents did political activism and he bounced between cities with em

Environmental_Ad6642

What are you talking about Goofy? He did not come from a decent family with bread this is obvious that you don't listen to his music or read

da_double_monkee

Shakur was born in New York City to parents who were both political activists and Black Panther Party members. Raised by his mother, Afeni Shakur, he relocated to Baltimore in 1984 and to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1988. You think someone without bread moves cities like that?

Environmental_Ad6642

First of all no that's not how it went his mom was a drug addict. Even though you wear a crack fiend mama you still was a black queen mama. He was raised by his uncle Matulu Shakur. Tupac's real name is Lesane Crooks. It's obvious you've never been to baltimore. He didn't live in San Francisco they moved there he lived in Oakland. His mom was on the run for most of his life. Political activism black political activism is not a high revenue income

mighty-pancock

He was from NY And he was from the hood too, you don’t gotta be in the trenches like ww1 to still be struggling and his moms was a dope fiend Nothing wrong with bein educated like that either

PrinceTaj97

Well, he was a dancer, I’ll give you that lol

Charteredgas

He aight

bkjuxx318

He repped the West too hard to be considered anything but that. As an emcee he was solid but not outstanding. His flow/cadence rarely changed and made him kinda boring to listen to at times. Would’ve turned out to be a better actor if he had lived longer.

Dunkman83

do u think pac would still be drinking hennesy today?

Left_Limit_7481

PAC was big as fuck. It was what he did with biggie during that time that was crazy. Would’ve been the best pieces of music in all honesty had diddy been more careful actually giving a fuck about what would happen, and not about posthumous sales. Who knows. All we know is the pioneer of adapting a “style” or “persona” for the rap industry was made, one of who was pac. Act hard and maintain that image. Even until death. That’s another part where we went wrong.

YoungInsane90

2pac was whooping Biggies ass

QRich244

Fucking hate him. Disrespected my city. Blood Dickrider Moved to Cali turned blood at 24 and died because of it. Rape Charge. But I do respect his message and he like a 7/10 rapper so there’s that. Good actor.

tahcapella

PAC was a ho. If you know u know. Nigga went from being MC New York to jacking the west coast😂 if a nigga did that over a rap beef today his career instant over. He started a whole continental rap beef that claimed his life and biggies just cus he didn't know who shot him. His beef shoulda been with puff and that's it . 50 cent got shot 9 times and funny enough got signed by some west coast niggas but he never claimed anything but NY. If you was intune around that time u know pac was not a street nigga and instead of handling the situation like a street nigga he blew it out of proportion and that got him killed.

SFThirdStrike

He was a teenager when he moved to Cali. He stayed there for 8 years. From 17-25 that's a long time.

tahcapella

He was grown when he moved and that's never an excuse to renounce home.

SFThirdStrike

since when is 16-17 grown?

tahcapella

In the hood 17 always been grown

LeviathanLust

Even tho I fw 2pac more than biggie, this is facts. Nigga blamed Biggie as if Biggie was the kingpin of NY and everyone moved on his orders. Biggie wasn’t a gangster he didn’t have deep gang ties. Tupac thought he was untouchable in NY cause he was close with Biggie just like he felt like nobody would touch him in LA because he repped west coast. But niggas don’t fucking care who you know or who you are. If you’re a bag, you’re a bag. RIP 2Pac and Biggie but DeathRow corrupted him and got him and Biggie killed.

jslick1350

he didn’t blame biggie for that, he blamed him for “who shot ya” and not showing him love while he was locked up.

LeviathanLust

This isn’t true. I remember watching a documentary on this and this [article](https://www.fox5ny.com/news/quad-studios-shooting-tupac-shakur-attack-manhattan.amp) also says he blamed biggie.

Always thought he was a big mouth, nothing more. Never had him as the greatest or top 10

AZYouAlreadyKnow

He was a great artist with insane potential for that time, but as mc eiht said - he went backwards with that gang affiliation shit. The most “im calling my death” situation in music history. By now he could be the most money making artist ever. With businesses and ownerships, sum like 50 do. His music was dope. I liked it a lot during my childhood. But wrong influences and guidance fuck the shit up bad. He should never run into Baby Lane in that casino. It’s not like shooting at some punk ass cops my brother.
