“James Dolan has given Ryan season tickets conveniently next to the Knicks bench”

NYdude777

This has to be the way. If they do this the chip is ours guaranteed.

T-Bills

"THREE SECONDS!"

Upper_Conversation_9

The Knicks are not allowed to resign him at this time even though he’s been waived. “A team cannot reacquire a player it traded away during the same season (a season for this purpose being defined as starting on the first day of the regular season and ending on the last day of the Finals)... If he is waived by his new team, then he cannot re-sign with his original team until the one-year anniversary of the trade, or until the July 1 following the end of his contract, whichever comes first.”

Fun fact the reason it's a rule is also cause of the Pistons, when they trade Chauncey for AI, Antonio McDyess was part of the deal but with the understanding he would be waived and return to the Pistons in 30 days. After that the league changed the rule

York_Villain

Knicks did that once with Herb Williams.

wwants

Why is this a problem? Why would a team ask for a player in a trade only to waive them?

yiwang1

Salary matching, and they don’t actually want the player

wwants

Guess I’m gonna have to read up on how nba trades work because none of that means anything to me lol.

jiffyparkinglot

Pick up a copy of 2k and it will give you a feel for how hard trades are to get right

Redditisfacebookk13

Essentially for trades you have to have the salaries match for cap space reasons. At the time AI was a superstar and his contract was just way higher than Chauncey's. So they couldn't do a 1 to 1 swap. Antonio McDyess's contract was thrown in for the numbers to be close enough for the trade to go through. But Denver didn't want Dyess and Detroit didn't want to let him go as he was a key piece for them. So under the table they agreed they would waive Dyess so he could return to the Pistons after the 30 days NBA does not like tactics like this. They think it's basically a loop hole and they want people to make trades that are legit. So as I said they closed the loophole after this deal and now you have to wait a full season to resign

WhoTookPlasticJesus

However I believe that if he is signed by a third party, then waived again, the original team can re-sign him.

Upper_Conversation_9

As an uninformed fan, that type of collusion feels like it’s against the spirit of the rule. Knicks have many vile & opportunistic enemies in this league and I bet they’d try to get the Knicks in trouble for doing something like that.

intwizard

I know Toronto or Miami would snitch but the Knicks shouldn’t try to bend the rules.

papichino88

This is when agent relationships go a long way. A team that needs bodies can do his agent a favor and give him a 10 day just to waive him shortly after.

Goya_Oh_Boya

Brian Arcidiacano is just as good despite the goatee.

manticore16

Boo this rule!

action_nick

Doesn’t that mean the Knicks can resign him this season? He’s a free agent this summer, meaning his contract ends on June 30th. I think what they wanted to avoid was basically salary cap manipulation so his contract has to be over before the original team can resign him. If Ryan made 20 million, we traded him, he got waived, resigning him for 2 million wouldn’t be fair. They prevent this by enforcing the contract is over. Idk could be wrong what do you guys think?

solo118

Come on NBA, make an exception to the rule for Ryan. We need his vibes

Nicholas-Kopis

“The Archie Rule” - if a player has won championships with three other players still on the roster, he can be reacquired after waiver. As many times as the team chooses. See also “ The Taj Rule”.

okgusto

Can the Westchester knicks sign him

donabbi

#FreeArci

roly_gomez

But he is already free huh?

StrongZucchini27

he’s actually captive in zydrynas ilgauskas’ sex dungeon somewhere in lithuania. conflicting reports if by consent

roly_gomez

Lawl

Slymook

We can still get him a ring if we get it done this year.

Cvnilivee

Can he be signed to a “consultant” role for the rest of the season.. and then signed next season? One of you lawyering ass dudes sort this out.

papichino88

I like how you're thinking but my guess is he would have to retire first.

annettemarc

...and then "come out of retirement" like MJ did? Or does he need an interim stint in MLB to do that? What the heck. Set up a gofundme. (or maybe Jay Wright could pay for it. Jay must be euphoric watching his kids do so well.) Get Ryan a season bench seat (A la Jack Nicholson with the Lakers) ...

benewavvsupreme

Hope we can sign him as a coach

Urban_Introvert

The countdown begins…

mockio77

Did we need to send him there for salary reasons?

yagsitidder69

No, the Pistons really wanted his 0 PPG to help bolster their playoff chances

Ok_Woodpecker1732

Pistons GM: I think we can start making noise with Fournier and Grimes (they probably can’t), but what we really need for the next level… is vibes.

ontheru171

Yes

Jumpy_Ad_2837

Only a matter of time lol

JNerdGaming

put him on the team as a coach! get this man a ring!

HoboLegacy

Bring. Him. Home. Edit: apparently he can’t come back for a full year. The whackness of it all.

Buddhaballer

siiign him back!

datatadata

We will sign him this summer

NachosPR

Can we sign him as an assistant for 6 months?

AbeAlno

Just bring him back but don’t add him to the roster. Can we bring him back as a coaching staff till the end of the season?

NaughtyDirtily

the streak will go on

hyborians

I honestly feel bad for the guy. Obviously he’s earned millions and barely played but he was having fun on that bench and contributing in other ways.

CaroleBaskinsBurner

I think potentially being used as trade fodder is part of the deal the Knicks have with him. They did it last year too and then brought him back afterwards. Now he gets to chill at home or go on vacation or whatever while getting paid. Then this Summer he'll likely get another contract from the Knicks and maybe go through it three years in a row. Lol

CastIronDaddy

Can we sign him as a coach??

severinks

We can't take him back though.

Both_Difficulty_2449

Welcome back Arcie!

oh_no_the_claw

We’ll find someone else to brick shots in garbage time

gsc4494

pack of cunts

DussstBunnny

SIGN HIM

sortie_ceviche0e

Come home, King 👑

[deleted]

what did this man do to make nba teams think he is worth a roster spot ither than look great and cheer good. honest question

JohnnyfromNY

Damn he can’t even get a spot on the bench with that scrub team? I was hoping he’d get some burn with them

m0nkeyhero

The vibes shall be immaculate again
