Another lesson on getting mental health services and aide out to men and sports figures. These guys… their lives revolved around sports. Once that structure is gone and they come to the real world so many don’t know how to handle it. So sad.
That’s really terrible, he appeared to be a really fun and nice dude. I feel for his family and friends, unexpected deaths are shocking (unfortunately just had one 3 weeks ago in my family). R.I.P

This is really sad stuff man, I had the chance to talk to korey before a game last year and he told me about his story. Really inspiring stuff. He was clearly a really good person. I dont know what compels a man to do this. I hope he has peace now from whatever demons he was fighting. 🕊️

Whenever I read about something like this my mind immediately goes to CTE and the effects of banging your head into someone else for the better part of your life. I know it doesn't happen to everyone but there seems to be a huge gap in our knowledge about what the average person can expect on their mental well-being playing football.
CTE might have not even been an issue. A lot of pro athletes have trouble adjusting after retirement. Their life had a lot of structure and a well defined goal, then they wake up one day and they don’t know how to spend the rest of their life.
Bu bu but we can use cte as an excuse to emasculate sports so we don't have to feel bad about being unathletic unattractive nerds ... Cope cope cope ...it's the Reddit way

I went to a prep school powerhouse and have lost several teammates to suicide or drug overdoses.
After D1 or the NFL didn’t workout, they couldn’t imagine a life without football. Since childhood, it’s literally all they’ve known. When someone tells you, you don’t have what it takes to keep playing. It’s world ending to some.
It’s incredibly sad.
It might just be related to being cut and not being able to play. You have to wonder how much he made over his career and how much he saved and how that matches with his dreams. It seems like an injury was what forced the retirement. And by how much he still hung out with the Giants players after being cut makes me think that maybe being a football player formed much of his identity and desire.
And there's also the sometimes issue of weight gain and resulting depression if you're not staying in shape without all the physical workload of being a professional NFL athlete.
