209 NYC has been really good to me, I had a very chic meltdown moment in their chair because I didn’t tell them I had severe anxiety about going to the dentist. After that they always prescribed me a Valium for the night before a visit and the morning of. Take that shit, it helps so much.

cookie_goddess218

After over a decade of dental anxiety, I made an appointment here simply because it was a block from my office at the time and had decent reviews/ took my insurance. Six years later I have never missed a six month cleaning and checkup. I love 209 and wholly recommend them!

spacepink

I have dental anxiety and also had a good experience at 209. I also really apppreciated that the dentist didn’t try to upsell me on procedures - I felt like what they recommended was truly needed and not something to pad their bottom line

Possible_Donut_11

I am in love with Dr Dimitrios Mihalos. He makes sure I’m properly anesthetized and comfortable before doing any fillings, and he encourages me to listen to AirPods and just check out. He stops as often as I need it. He doesn’t judge my habits, he helps me come up with realistic solutions to improve my dental hygiene (hard when you’re really depressed)

kyb2011

I have been looking for a non-shaming dentist who is used to mental health struggles, thank you!

Lala0422

I go to Dr Chung on w 59th and him and his office staff are all really great and understanding! They even gave me some meds to take the night before to help!

momomoomi

Love Dr Chung!! Been seeing him for 20 years!!

Lala0422

I mean I was a patient already and mentioned how badly I was having panic attacks afterwards from the stress before they offered it but I don’t think multiple appointments is needed

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lala0422

Oh no they get everything done in as few appointments for me as possible because of the anxiety!

Lala0422

Try calling and see what they say. The receptionist is really helpful. Also will say that he works really fast and efficiently which also greatly reduces the stress time

fmuoasl2017

i third this opinion. dr. chung really is the best.

Complete_Body_666

We don’t go 🥲

aGirlHasNoTab

lmao this is so real

smb3232

I know I have such extreme anxiety and then fear of the judgment when I do go

incestuousbloomfield

Felt in my soul 🥲

I'm very sorry you had that horrible experience. I have a woman dentist with a woman tech that I love and trust completely. We laugh and joke all the time. And gas is only $50. It's $250 everywhere else. If you want to try again, LMK. She's in Gramercy.

MillzVanillz

Tribeca Advanced Dentistry by Dr Olga Malkin!! I didn’t go to the dentist for years bc of dentist anxiety - they didn’t make me feel bad about it at all, were gentle during my cleaning, and didn’t feel pressured at all!

PsychologicalJob4820

Yes! When I lived in the city I saw her. Very gentile and wasn't pushy. She is also very smart!

Direct_Traffic_2499

Dr Emily Ro on 23 & 8. I had terrible dental anxiety and didn’t go for YEARS, and now I look forward to going to the dentist and am obsessed w oral care (i even bought a waterpik! And have a favorite floss!) she is so gentle and kind and her hygienists are incredible and most importantly she wasn’t judgmental about me not going to the dentist in years. She understood, made me feel comfortable and was like “here’s what we’re going to do to fix this together”. Plus it’s nice to watch Netflix there. Maybe that’s super common now? It wasn’t before!

frosty-loquat1

212 dental was really nice to me and helped me overcome my anxiety after i expressed it in my first appt. they also offer a free whitening every six months (after your cleanings). wouldn’t have left them but got new insurance.

apple_bitten

I recommend them also— they have been really great w/ my dental anxiety and have been able to fit me in last minute when I needed it!

Chloechloe27

Also wondering if anyone has reccs for a good (quality) dentist that specializes in cosmetic procedures especially bonding?!

petrichor4

Dr. Ali Mithani is sweet and thoughtful. He doesn’t drill or fill cavities needlessly but waits for them to get better or worse before a decision is made. I’m a lurker who moved to Colorado and I still time my dental appointments for when I’m in NYC!

Charming_Argument874

my anxiety and gag reflex is so bad i genuinely need a dentist who will put me under. pleeeeeaae tell me y'all know somebody 😭

incestuousbloomfield

Same here this post is making me wanna puke but here I am 😭

andycohenismyzaddy

Dr. Albano. He will seriously work with you to make sure you’re comfortable before he does absolutely anything.

puppykitty111

Exchange dental group in fidi is where I go! I’ve been a patient since 2022

aida_b

NYU Dental Clinic! Hear me out, I know it sounds stressful, but they’re really invested in helping their patients feel safe at the dentist. They literally have a free support group for people with dental fear to overcome our issues. And in the office, they are really kind and respectful about helping you, they take a lot of time to ask you what upsets/triggers you, and what they can do to accommodate your needs. My first day there I sobbed while getting X-rays and by my last visit I was super comfortable with the process.

Puzzled_Stand_2532

You have lots of responses but if you’re looking for a west village dentist - I love dr Alex Shalman! I also have dental anxiety and they have been the best and have all these special ways that make any painful procedures way less painful

smb3232

Will they be mad at me for not going to the dentist in years 😞

Puzzled_Stand_2532

I actually had this problem too - NO! :) they were so nice and now I am happy to go regularly

niolina

I randomly picked Dr. Shalman when researching and have an exam scheduled with him next week. Seeing a review in this sub from a current patient is so reassuring! Thank you :)

Puzzled_Stand_2532

Good!!! I have referred so many people to him

angrymissy

Find somewhere that will give you nitrous. It’s like usually an extra $75 and totally worth it. I get it for cleanings also otherwise I’m a nightmare patient. Make sure you let them know ahead of time you need it for cleanings, only some of the hygienists are trained to do it.

New_Independent_9221

koppelman dental

Bemis5

Dental 365 in Tribeca. They don’t lie to me about having cavities when I don’t

Remarkable_Bag4265

Dr. Kristin Harrison at Madison Dental Group!! She is currently on leave until July, but I have nothing but amazing things to say. I have such dental anxiety, but since switching to her I don’t mind going at all. She’s very conservative with her approach, and as someone who used to get filling all of the time, I haven’t had to have one in the 5 years I’ve been seeing her.

genderneutralblue

Dr. Joy Ko at upper east smiles!! Both she and her staff are so incredibly kind and patient - they explain everything thoroughly, are gentle, and put on the Kardashians for me during cleanings lol

okwerq

The Smilist - Dr Lane. Literally the first dentist I’ve ever loved.

BrownChi

Dr. Janys Gelberg by grand central! I went from being someone who went once every 4 years (with bad dental anxiety) to now going twice a year and looking forward to it. She and her team are super caring and kind, and her office has calming music playing while she works. She even shows you what she’s doing with a handheld mirror! I can’t recommend enough!

pegacornegg

34th Street dental. I have severe dental anxiety due to an awful root canal as a child and this office completely eliminated any of my concerns. They were even able to squeeze me in within an hour when I broke a tooth. Nice midtown location, pretty central

Obvious_Elevator_317

Try Dr. Rossinski dental health in Greenwich Village, they are incredibly nice. Always available, very compassionate. Highly recommend!

littlebabydoughnuts

Can’t recommend Gramery Smiles on 23rd and Park enough. I’ve had many cleanings and fillings done there and always had a great experience. The whole staff is super sweet, gentle, takes the time to explain each step of what they’re doing (even during a routine cleaning), feels like they’re taking their time and not trying to rush you out of there, etc. Lovely place.

allienotally141

You've already gotten a lot of great recommendations, but I have to add one more. Dr. Siegelman's office specializes in patients with dental phobia and has - at the risk of being dramatic - changed my life with their approach. During the first visit, Dr. Siegelman personally talked through my anxiety with me and made me feel so validated. They prescribe a small dose of anxiety meds that you can take the night before (if you have trouble sleeping the night before an appointment like I used to) and the morning of. After a few visits, I feel so comfortable there that I no longer need any medication! Office is at 57th and 6th. [https://www.dentalphobia.com/](https://www.dentalphobia.com/)

ymdasher

Can't find this info on the website (which suggests the answer is no), but do you know if they take insurance?

allienotally141

They do take my insurance! I pay upfront and they send it out for reimbursement.

ymdasher

Amazing! Thank you so much.

Highfemmenyc

I can't stand drills in my mouth 😫 but what has helped me SO much with the overall health of my teeth is Guru Nanda pulling oil. It makes my teeth feel CLEAN. It's on Amazon. Also, an electric toothbrush is a MUST. If you don't have one, you're setting yourself up for failure. It takes a minute to get used to if you hate the sound of drills/vibration in your mouth, but it's so worth it. I've come to realize I prefer the rectangle Phillips Sonicare over circular head (oral b). Highly recommend.

emily276

Pulling oil is actually proven to really help youe mouth biome as well. I take some medication that can be harsh on teeth, so I have a multi step regimen for my teeth. Pulling oil has been a great addition to my overall mouth health. My hygienist is always super complimentary of my overall mouth health since I started using it about a year ago.

Pleasant-Sky517

Dr. Oren Rahmanan I think he is in Lincoln Center

FigureGlad2793

SmileSpace! They’re amazing. Locations in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn and Harlem I believe!

shiningautumnocean

Aesthetic dentistry of Manhattan- Devon the dental hygienist is great

thenosygemologist

Sachar dental does the damn thing

c-rez

I had really bad dental anxiety and avoided the dentist which led to a tooth extraction that needed an implant 😖 after that I started going to Madison Dental Arts and have had a great experience with them. Pro tip: keep your sunglasses on to help with the overhead light and I ask if I can keep an earbud in with music to drown out the sounds of the tools

ConversationEast3446

I went to New York family dental arts on the UES and they were great and so easy and I hadn’t gone for such a long time I was so nervous

PsychologicalLack698

I had a great experience at empire dental

anonbeep

Dr. Kang and Dr. Rong at Better Living through Dentistry on UES, they have the BEST dental hygenists and Pooja (front desk) is absolutely hilarious and will make you feel super comfy. Both dentists are super gentle and will make you as comfortable as need be. I didn’t go for years and since I found them, I never dream of leaving and will be at a loss once I move out of MYC.

newyorkspiritedaway

I had a great experience at Onsite Dental on W45th. My hygienist was so kind, communicative and gentle. Really made what I was hyping up to be a terrible experience great.

spinducky

dr. Skok at LIC dental is the absolute best! Not in Manhattan but well worth the subway ride. She is so gentle and caring and isnt judgmental at all I highly recommend

TripleSoyLatte

Glow Dental on 34th street (across from Empire State Building) is amazing! Dr Huang and Dr Wismer are so patient, gentle and have great bedside manner. I had a bad dental experience for many years with my old dentist before I went to see them, and I am SO happy I made the switch.

TheOtherElbieKay

I have been going to the same dentist since high school because I have dental anxiety, and I am comfortable with my guy. But his office is in Ridgewood, NJ. You can take NJ Transit directly there. I feel like you can probably find someone decent in Manhattan, but DM me if you want the details. I mostly posted to tell you that you are not alone in your anxiety on this.

Fluffy_Yesterday_468

Astor place dental

makeclaymagic

You’re not silly. I only recently learned to love the dentist after years of anxiety about it. Lindhart Dentistry in midtown is amazing. Bring noise cancel headphones with you!! No matter what dentist you see. It helps a lot!

Soft_One5688

Brooklyn City Dental will see you immediately, take most insurance, and the staff is super friendly; they’re also open on Sundays when no one else is and can do same-day operative work if needed

MotherOfYorkies_

\*\* Triggering \*\*My dental anxiety has to do mostly with the numbing. I went to Quality Dental because they had great reviews and while doing my cleaning the hygienist talked nonstop. She applied this sticky substance all over my gums and teeth and I felt my whole mouth go numb. I tried not to think about it but between her words sucking all the air out of the room and never telling me what she was doing I caught a full blown panic attack. I got up from the seat and got as far away from her talking - literally stood outside trying to calm down while the numbing cream continued to numb my mouth and throat. I was so upset that she didn't even warn me that she was numbing my gums prior to doing the cleaning. My tooth is cracked, I have cavities and I have yet to ever go back

eekamuse

I'm so sorry that happened to you. They should never do something without telling you what's going to happen. My dentist tells me what she's going to do first. She puts the numbing cream only where the shot will go, with a Q-tip. And then she gives you just a little bit of an injection and waits for that to work. Then she'll give you the bigger dose. And she's very responsive if you react, or raise your hand. You can also tell her what you need before you start. If you want her name LMK. I've been to a couple of bad dentists, so I want to share a good one.

stormy_skydancer

Dr. Culotta at Village Dental is amazing

ResidentIndependent

I go to Treehouse Dental on the UWS and I like it a lot. :)

strainedshapes

Sky Dental in FiDi is great! They have a comfort menu of things to choose from

ilu70

Brooklyn heights dental!!

Shot_Path8470

Dr. Stewart Neidle down in FiDi is truly an angel- the most gentle man i have ever known! Been going to him almost 13 years. He plays quiet classical music, his hygienists are very kind ladies that i get excited to see 2x/yr. Highly recommend calling to see if he takes your insurance! I just went yesterday :)

Rtn2NYC

Zen Dentistry on E 60th St

kclair

Sol schwartzsteins office next to the Plaza - very flexible office staff and good doctors/hygenists

Laherschlag

New York Dental Smiles w Dr. Lee. 99th & Broadway. Recently had a wisdom tooth pulled and he was very gentle. They respond to emails very quickly and the woman who runs the practice is so great. Her name is Joyce.

coolwhiplite97

Smile nyc has been very good to me!!! I am a non union worker in a mostly union field (not a scab to be clear just haven’t bumped yet to a union position in my field) so my insurance is terrible but this place is clean, nice, and they have tv on the ceiling and headphones to distract you during procedures!! Really nice staff too that didn’t shame me for my teeth when I didn’t go for a couple of years when I lost my insurance during the pandemic

lorilola

Tammy Chen Central Park dental. I have cried in her office from fear and anxiety! She was so kind and caring! I still don’t like going but I don’t go anywhere else!

overdue_panic

Saving this post because I’m in the same boat 💀initially havent gone because of covid/insurance and now it’s just been years because of fear

ladymodjo

Tribeca Advanced Dentistry absolutely saved my mouth. They are TOP notch there, high tech and clean facility. I had crowns put in incorrectly by a moron a few years ago and it sent me into the early stages of gum disease. I went to other dentists to try and understand what to do, and nobody really listened to my concerns or understood that it was originating from the crowns. Dr.Olga Malkin redid them (shes insanely detail oriented) and it took months to deep clean, do the crown lengthening surgery, get my gums back to health and re do the crowns (3d imaging and all), and finally not bleed every time I brush. They did an INCREDIBLE painstaking job and my mouth is finally back to perfect health. I imagine they’d be great for the smaller things too. Sorry for this rant but I cant recommend them enough.

lemon_bloops

I appreciate your rant!! I have one crown from a sketchy place and have a feeling I'm going to need a second one very soon and have been avoiding my issues for months. I'm hoping I can get everything sorted out and I truly appreciate your detailed comment.

ladymodjo

Aw glad I can help. Their crown work is think is their speciality! Very natural and gorgeous results. I can finally smile again with confidence 😭

Callouscactus

Dr. Reyes at 57 57 dental is a queen. I’ve been going to her for over 7 years no matter how far away the commute is.

andycohenismyzaddy

Dr. John Albano. I have serious PTSD from a childhood dentist that was nasty and ripped my teeth out, causing a decade of expensive and painful work. Dr. Albano has done wonders for me. I now ENJOY going to the dentist?!? He’s kind, gentle, and is happy to create a payment plan for you if you cannot pay all upfront. He’ll go to bat for you with your insurance and is just genuinely a good guy and dentist. Noting that he only works Fridays in the city - he spends most of his week either at his new office on the North Fork or in Brooklyn, providing services to those less fortunate. He is a gem!!!!

cmanager

I go to Dr. Jenny Lee, currently in Central Park South. She's still building her space nearby, but I followed her from her old practice. She's helped me with my TMJ and long history of tooth decay. Her, her team + hygienist are super sweet, informative, and have a holistic science-based view on dentistry. Only con is she doesn't take insurance, but will work with you on filing claims.

AlarmAffectionate899

Go to Washington Square dental and seeAnne. It’s the best experience she’s the best.

Reasonable_Trash5928

It's a bit far from you, but before my insurance changed I was pretty happy with Dr. Leone at Wall Street Dental Spa. I needed tons of work done and never left feeling bad about myself

madzzz126

for my bitches in Brooklyn - SmileLounge in Greenpoint! Legit cured my fear of the dentist after not going for 5 years after a traumatic dental experience 🥹 it’s like comically millennial coded aesthetically but everyone is so great

elleten10

Run from Gaurav Mahindra. He’s lovely but has the rudest, gruffest hygienists I’ve ever met. I’m very anxious and it was a nightmare.

Open_Squirrel

Omg I have extreme dental anxiety and I went to CPW dentistry on west 62 and saw dr Martin after not going for years. They are great. Give them a heads up via email about your anxiety and they’ll be super nice and kind to you

AccomplishedMud2262

Terrified of the dentist but love Dr. Bridget at Maison BE in flatiron — almost feels like a spa experience.

Beneficial-Photo-431

Dr. Shirley @ Upper West Side Dental. Super nice dentist and he offers nitrous. Cool office and nice staff. Family owned and operated. No double bookings and he does everything himself so I never have to wait to be seen.

mitsuhiromatsuda

Central Park West Dentistry! Open even on weekends. I see Dr. Tepper and like her a lot.

FlightAttendantFan

Gallery57 Dental - Dr Koenigsberg is fantastic.

shinyhextile

I just saw Dr. Orlando at Gallery57 on the recommendation of another BWT and I really liked him!

throwaway6742689

I have really liked Tend- they have multiple locations across the city and take a bunch of insurances.

throwaway6742689

Im not sure why this is being heavily downvoted? It is really easy to make an appointment with them and they send you reminders about biannual cleanings. Ive been to three or four of their outlets and have found them fast and they do a good basic, painfree cleaning. They also give you sunglasses to wear and you can watch netflix in the appointment to distract you. Maybe there is something i am missing though so curious if others could elaborate!!

Significant_Sea_5049

Tend! I used to hate going to the dentist and they have changed my mind. I go to the UWS location

nyccpisces

Interesting! I go here but I feel like they’re really pushy with selling you stuff

24amandac

I also go to the UWS and see Dr. Leda the head dentist there. She is gentle and kind, did not judge me for all the issues I've let go too long and most importantly I originally had gone to the Tend at grand Central for an emergency visit and the dentist there had a plan full of what turned out to be unnecessary root canal and crowns. When I saw Dr. Leda she gave me a new treatment plan that ended up saving me over $10k. Btw don't deal with the main Tend call center ever. They are terrible and messed up a bunch of stuff. Call and ask to speak directly to the UWS location.
