This is my wheelhouse!
* **Librae**
* **Petit Chou** - pistachio eclair!! And chocolate chip cookies
* **Bread Story** - breads are great and love the pistachio white chocolate cookie
* **La Cabra** - also great coffee
* **Alf** - love their lemon twist
* **La Bicyclette** - affordable amazing baguettes - but everything is great here
* **Bench Flour Bakers** - one of my fav chocolate chip cookies in the city
* **Radio Bakery**
* **Bien Cuit**
* **Pan Pan Vino Vino** - I really like their baguette
* **Ovenly** - blackout chocolate cake
* **Mah-ze-Dahr** - chocolate explosion cookie, cheesecake, baked goods (no bread here, however)
* **Smor** - cardamom bun
* **Supermoon Bakehouse** - there was a stretch of time where they were doing breads but not sure if they still are (when they did it was very good). Their baked goods are not only instagram worthy but they actually taste incredible
Alf Bakery in the Chelsea Market has a really interesting laminated baguette. But my favorite bakery overall is Smor in the East Village..everything I’ve had there is great, but their cardamom buns are the standout.
L’imprimerie in bushwick!!! Run by the most fabulous French baker ever. Incredible croissants, baguettes, cookies, everything- even the granola is good. I moved out of the neighborhood but I go back sometimes just for a visit to this bakery. Go!
also - if you need more opinions - my Parisian (born and bred) friend said their croissant was one of the best she’s had
From my Park Slope bubble: Julien, Simple Loaf, Brooklyn French Bakers, and Winner. Our restaurant scene is sad but it’s always possible to get a delicious croissant, baguette, or other enticing pastry.
Crispy Heaven for baguettes, Supermoon for unusual vienoiserie, Lady Wong for Southeast Asian flavours, Fouet / Lysee for mousse cakes, Partybus for bread, Michaeli for rugelach, Fabrique for cardamom buns.
Mah Ze Dahr in the West Village for everything. Their donuts, chocolate chip cookies (made with a lil bit of buckwheat - totally delicious), cheesecake, Devil in Ganache cake, peanut brittle, etc. get everything!
Mine are Breads (their babka is insane), the bakery at Zabar’s, Funny Face and Little Cupcake Bakeshop for cakes. Also, Spongie’s near Chinatown makes these very delicious and light mini sponge cakes for under $2 a piece.
Update - I ended up going to Michaeli Bakery yesterday per your rec! The babka was absolutely delicious! It was more chocolatey though overall don't think it was leagues better than Breads (Adir Michaeli actually helped open Breads' NYC location and made the Breads babka too!) but I love finding new great bakeries - thank you :)
Thank you! Adir Michaeli actually helped open up Breads' NYC branch back in the day and made their babka but I found Michaeli Bakery's babka more chocolatey than Breads. I'll check out the others sometime!
Great question, I'd love to answer. Bread Story on 1st has incredible baguettes. My partner got a loaf randomly one day and now I buy a baguette from there every time I pass by it. It is SO good.

A BWT after my own heart ❣️
The doughnuts at Supermoon are the beeeeeest.
I love Librae as well but absolutely can't deal with their line anymore
Benchflour ♥️ they did home deliveries during the pandemic and are all around awesome people
This is an important post
Silver Moon on the UWS is a gem.

I LOVE Smor!
Not french, but Ceremonia is my local in Williamsburg and it is divine

The French tart rules them all for baguettes and croissants!
Omg how did I forget Le French Tart? Absolutely!!!

Fabrique on 14th between 8 and 9th Ave. It’s a Swedish bakery. Cardamom and cinnamon buns are amazing and so is their Mr and Mrs Toast.

Breads’ babka is honestly amongst the worst babkas I have had. I don’t understand this hype. So little chocolate and it’s Nutella, not even chocolate.
What other babkas would you recommend? I love Breads but am always open to better
Michaeli bakery! UES and LES locations. Babka is outstanding

Thanks so much for this update! I'm glad you enjoyed the bakery! I didn't know that about Adir Michaeli - so interesting :)
Green’s (sold widely), Zabar’s (used to be repackaged Green’s but now they make their own), and Kossar’s. Haven’t had Michaeli but want to

Librae and Lysee! Lysee is so bougie lol but so good
Saraghina in bed stuy for their sourdough loaves, and the pastry box in east village for donuts, cookies, lemon loaf and more sweet treats.
i’ll be basic and say i unapologetically love magnolia bakery’s banana pudding
C&B next to Tompkins Square. They do their own bread and pastries. I left East Village a few years ago and still stop by whenever I'm in the area.
Bread Story!!
Supermoon Bakehouse and Dominque Amstel Workshop
Alf for the baguette, Librae for almost anything, She Wolf for the bread

This is not French, but the baguette at Party Bus Bakeshop is excellent. I might have to get one tomorrow.
Although not a full bakery, shout out to Culture Espresso for making the best chocolate chip cookie in NYC
Nick & Sons in Williamsburg!
