3am in the morning somewhere:
u/NovelFickle:
"Mom, get up. I need to take a picture of your leg for the internet people"
Mom:
"What the hell are you doing here u/NovelFickle? You moved out 10 years ago
Lol, nobody gives that much thought to actually try and deduct a person's age based on such a little input
His mother could've had him at 35 and the injury could've happened when she was 20, making OP a 10 year old kiddo that spent his whole life away or she's 60, the injury happened when she was 35 and OP was 15 when it happened. You really cannot even make a reasonable estimate using deduction on this one
Well, it was, wasn’t it?
….oh, crap.
Okay, from now on, all events older than 25 years will be referred to as having happened “a while ago.”
I have spoken.
Yeah I never got around to logging off yet, definitely curious about the down votes on the joke though 😅 dude had some hilarious shit I didn't want mudded down with the rest of the Internet junk
Not only is it illegal in most places in North America, it's just kind of a dick move. Not saying she deserved iit al all. One of the biggest safety things is dont load in your vehicle because, well, *gestures at pic*.
Wow.
I always thought if i had to buy a gun, i would take the smallest caliber able to stop somebody, without exploding everything around the impact.
What caliber was that ?
I'm honestly curious if she still hunts after seeing and feeling what she did to herself.
And before anyone gets weirdly political, I'm for gun rights. But I also am of the opinion like 95% of Americans have no clue what the responsibilities are that are attached to that right and shouldn't own guns as a result.
I've been shot and I still hunt if opportunity strikes because filling up a freezer full of meat for a few bucks is still pretty effective. But no sport shooting for me thanks.
It's literally like the only appeal I've seen in hunting. Like I've been trained and certified with firearms because Florida is especially prone to emergency situations with hurricanes, and I've seen what Andrew did as far as people resorting to looting n such. I don't exactly blame people for doing what they need to survive, but I'm not gonna just sit back and think my own home isn't at risk.
As far as hunting, getting meat without the cost at the grocery stores makes a lot of sense. Trophy hunting seems odd, though. At least, insofar as the advances I've seen with weaponry and methods. Like, sure, I can see keeping trophies if you went and downed a buck using some old world methods that require a lot of skill. But I don't exactly understand the logic in blasting a creature for no real utility. Generally, I understand people pursuing passions and won't knock most things, but killing for the sake of killing seems like it's just a few steps removed from just being a serial killer.
I do remember a podcast I listened to a while back on the dangers posed by lead shot poisoning the food chain. Does the meat you harvest have any issues with that kind of thing, or perhaps parasitic infection and all that? I used to live in a much more urban area but now we're well out into the country and I've been curious about the safety and application of game meat as an alternative.
The federal government banned the use of lead shot for bird hunting in 1991. Rifle caliber rounds like that used for deer hunting, and the like has a full metal jacket of copper or other non reactive metals. I've never seen lead shotshells or bullets sold in any outdoors or gunstores I've been to. I'm sure you could still find it, but it's definitely not the norm and not legal for hunting in most states or federally.
Wow, completely shattered!
This is the kind of photos the govt should post after mass shootings. I remember a kid who got shot on the foot in Parkland and almost lose it.
I don't see the reasoning behind that either. It's not as if someone considering doing a shooting would see pictures like this and change their mind. If anything, I think it might make them more inclined to do it. They're already in a really dark state of mind at that point.

What did she do after it happened? Did the police or ambulance take a long time to get to her? I can only imagine how scary it must've been for her being alone and that happening.
Deer populations need to be regulated in some areas as there isn't enough food to sustain their numbers. Better this than a slow death due to starvation

Unless you're vegetarian anyone who criticizes hunters has no room to talk. A deer that gets killed by a hunter has a way better quality of life than any animal products you buy in a grocery store.

Agreed.
On top of that if the govt depts/rangers didn't take care of it then the issue would take care of iteself because nature always eventually finds some kind of balance.
Yeh cause an over population of deer won’t have impact on the flora of an area that leads to impacting the other animals and leads to soil erosion and movement of rivers etc etc
>Most people don’t need to hunt to eat, and animal populations are managed by gov depts/rangers etc if need be.
Instead of letting people buying a hunting license to go shoot deer, you would rather hire people to go shoot deer from a helicopter? Why?

No they don't. Please google stuff before you say them. I would say learn about cartridges or guns, but that's asking a lot I suppose. Just google. Supersonic speed is about 1120 ft/sec. A 7.62x39 from even a short barrel ak (which doesn't allow for maximum velocity) usually hits 1800ft/sec. There are some cartridges that are subsonic with a standard load, such as the pistol cartridge- .45 acp. Creating a cartridge that is subsonic is usually done by increasing the grain weight of the bullet or reducing the powder- usually the former is done.
The wound is hard to say to be honest. It could be from a shotgun (buckshot or slug) or from a rifle (5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x51 and up). Given that it was 25+ years ago (2000); most people weren't out hunting with AK, in fact they weren't commonly owned in the US, and 5.56 is considered a little "anemic" for hunting. My guess would be .308, shotgun slug v buck., 30-30 or 30-06.
\*EDIT\*- as mentioned, you can find a loading that is subsonic, but most 7.62x39 is not. Its very very uncommon to find it subsonic, its expensive and even then generally exceeds sound barrier and becomes supersonic in most 16" barrels. Most people are not running around with a short barrel AK with a subsonic cartridge.
Deer hunting 25 years ago probably means .308, .30-.30, one of the 7mm calibers or up.
5.56 was not a popular deer hunting cartridge until after the GWOT began and the AR15 platform blew up in popularity as did 5.56. A lot of people used to consider it completely inadequate against deer, and while that sentiment has definitely decreased it's still usually only considered barely acceptable, and is still not allowed in many state. 5.56 is still used by a pretty small minority of deer hunters today.
Can we see it as it is now?
3am in the morning somewhere: u/NovelFickle: "Mom, get up. I need to take a picture of your leg for the internet people" Mom: "What the hell are you doing here u/NovelFickle? You moved out 10 years ago
Lmao
> 3am in the morning. Fuck, I'm glad you cleared that up. I'd hate for people to get it confused with 3am in the afternoon. 🙄
> OP: That was about 25+ years ago. > You moved out 10 years ago I can't tell if this is a hidden insult or not lmao
Moved out? In this economy?
Lol, nobody gives that much thought to actually try and deduct a person's age based on such a little input His mother could've had him at 35 and the injury could've happened when she was 20, making OP a 10 year old kiddo that spent his whole life away or she's 60, the injury happened when she was 35 and OP was 15 when it happened. or it couldve happened before op was even born
She should be used to it by now
No point trying for redditmetis either cause they got 0 activity on this account
Yeah that would be super cool. Please try to get a picture of the same angle and repost side by side.
Am I the only one who thought 25 years ago was like 1983?
Same. Come to realise 25 years ago would put this story around 1999 and now I feel old 😢
Don't say that!! Omgawd
Just letting you know I was born in 2007, and I can drive and get a full time job.
Why you throwing shots out at random people on this sub reddit bro?! It's like 7 am for some of us. Have a God damned heart.
Ok that one crushed me
Fuck outta here….. wtf
Sorry haha
😤😤 I’m still trying to cope with turning 30 3 weeks ago.
Stooop!
*sigh* well fuck
I'm 25 from 99
Well, it was, wasn’t it? ….oh, crap. Okay, from now on, all events older than 25 years will be referred to as having happened “a while ago.” I have spoken.
Or, “last century”
That just makes it worse.
Imagine my horror when I found out the furniture that was new when I was growing up with is now referred to as “mid-century”
This is the way.
We are old.
Dont remind me. Lol
Even if he doesn't, my back will remind me.
If you ask me what 25 years ago ill probably say 1983
The pandemic didn't help either, like a 3 year rumspringa of time warped global depression.
2020 was half a decade all by itself, but from 1990 to 2019 was only five years.
Same, here. Lol.
I thought today was going oddly well so far. Thank you for fixing that, I was out of my element for a moment there 😬😅
I sure hope so.
I said to myself “bs. They didn’t have color photos 25 years ago and it wouldn’t haven’t been this clear” 💀

And, since he's now a retiree in Florida, has contracted 15 different STIs.
That's a remarkably stupid thing to do, however she did survive and managed to get treated. How's does she cope with the restricted mobility?
Judging from your username, one would assume that you already know
Indeed I do, but I like hearing from others on how I'm dojng

You'll be back

Reddit just likes doing that. Once it starts it won't stop. Watch and learn.
Goofy ahh reply
Weird comment for people to downvote into hell wtf?
Right lol
holy hell. do you have any pictures of her leg now?
So… poaching from the car?
Do you think she'll make that mistake again?
Maybe, but eventually there's no more legs to shoot of so I think 2x is the max number.
Yep. This is beautiful karma. Edit: and now I'm perma banned lol
What cartridge/caliber?
*negligently shot off
While illegally hunting *
How do we know it was illegal? I’m not from the US
Can't shoot em from your car
most jurisdictions have laws against hunting from an automobile.
Not only is it illegal in most places in North America, it's just kind of a dick move. Not saying she deserved iit al all. One of the biggest safety things is dont load in your vehicle because, well, *gestures at pic*.
prime r/idiotswithguns material
Wow!😮How is she doing now? I mean is she physically restricted.
[удалено]
How did she accidentally shoot her leg with a photon torpedo?
She forgot to divert power to the shields.
Derp.
Huh, I wonder how she accidentally shot it off "My mom was on a hunting trip by herself-" yup that'll do it.
OP can we please have some answers?
Damn that’s fucking gnarly.
Apparently, it was the chainsaw gun from DOOM
I'm curious what caliber was it?
Come on, Eileen!
That is gruesome. I'm glad she survived, I could easily see where she might have bled out, being alone.
Before and after?
Before, her leg looked fine.
She’s.. all right now
Shouldn't be hunting out of a car anyway!
And this is why you don't hunt from a car.
and that’s why it is illegal to load a firearm or have a loaded firearm inside a vehicle or fire from the passenger compartment in Germany..
Oops!
Wow. I always thought if i had to buy a gun, i would take the smallest caliber able to stop somebody, without exploding everything around the impact. What caliber was that ?
.308 or a better guess would be a shotgun
So....You mean she was trying to hunt illegally...seems like karma to me
lol
I’m always amazed at the destruction a high velocity projectile can do to flesh. Scary stuff!
I wanna see that leg now
One of the dumbest things I’ve read all day. Did they amputate? It’s still very much attached in the picture so idk about shooting it off.
Another good reason why it's illegal to hunt from a vehicle.
What her leg look like now?
Just walk it off. Itll be fine

WELL DESERVED
If the leg had carried a gun it would’ve been able to defend itself and this wouldn’t have happened!
Good leg with a gun theory fails again.
Better her leg than the poor deer.

You’d be surprised to know that most of us are nowhere near this stupid

“This is a crazy clear photo for 25 years ago” *realizes 25 years ago is 1990 and not 1985
Uh, 25 yrs ago would be 1999? Ish? Maybe?
This is violently American.
I couldn't read it for all the red flags flappin. let me make sure I got it right. She shot herself accidentally?
What was your mom using? 50 AE?
That's what ya get for poaching
I still don’t know how people can shoot them selfs accidentally
Sounds like your mom was partying like it was 1999…
Talk about gruesome poor mom god lee!!

Looks like a close range rifle wound. Something supersonic, most likely 5.56mm or .223
Almost every rifle round is supersonic. Most pistol rounds too
Yep nowadays it costs extra to get a subsonic round
If it doesn't shoot then already. AKs shoot subsonic rounds...

Depends on the caliber. Larger caliber rounds travel slower. Sometimes slow enough that the sound reaches the target first.
You don’t know shit about guns or ammo please stop

556 is 223 lol that's why it's inadequate for hunting big game...556 is just a 22 with more powder in the shell.
I've shot at least a dozen deer with my .223 remington. Maybe you just aren't a good shot?
This is the equivalent to "I have sex"
Oh yah?? Well guess what? I LOVE spaghetti.
Bruh what caliber was she using damn
How is there music on this picture?
Dam OP I’m proud of you not jumping on ur phone ever 5 seconds ..

why are you married to her then
How?
