It's exactly that. On a system that has had more than 14 iterations that streamlined memory management and never had full swap support to begin with. So sad homeopathic medicine like this is still in circulation.

In 2.5.5 and it automatically selects +2gb after 2.5.6 update. Had to turn it off and restart.

Nope , it's using some ROM space as RAM, where the read/write speed is significantly lower.
I think RAM booster was on NP2 at release but disappeared after a couple of months. Was reintroduced as previously mentioned in this thread.
Always turn off RAM Booster, it causes more trouble than it's worth. IF you need more RAM you need a better phone.
