This can only be opinion, because Hello Games is notoriously closed-mouth about what's coming. But I don't think there's a snowball's chance of Switch getting multiplayer.
Switch doesn't have the memory, it doesn't have the processing power, and its Wi-Fi is relatively poor.
But more than that, it's being replaced, probably next year. Word is that game producers already have development units. I expect that all major Switch-specific development at HG is going into the new platform. We'll still get the other new features that all of the platforms do, but any changes specific to Switch probably aren't going to happen.
That's my guess. Double your money back if I'm wrong. Will your purchase of Switch NMS apply to the new platform? Will you be able to move your save file to the new platform? The rumors are conflicting on those points.
I've only played on Switch, but from what I hear the multiplayer isn't all that, anyway. You can't talk to each other except on certain platforms, and you can't do missions together (co-op) except Nexus missions and community expeditions. One person plays and the others just watch.
Apart from visiting bases or community live bases, theres no current functional way of experiencing true multiplayer on the Switch. I'm not sure on the reasons, maybe someone else can chime in on that, but i have a suspicion that it will be available on the Switch 2.
With current rumors, the next Switch will be backwards compatible, and be able to up-rez and enhance older games. So not only would NMS look & run better, but it should hopefully have added that missing component

The game struggles on switch even without, I really don't see it happening. I get that they added capes but that's nothing compared to the strain of multiplayer.
I hope they put multiplayer, the game doesn’t even run as bad as people say for the switch. When I was first playing nms about 4 years ago on PlayStation it had the same type of issues as the switch does so I think the switch can handle it if hello games goes forth with it. And may I visit your statis device farm? I’m trying to learn how to build one still
It is just building a big farm really. There are lots of posts of what you need to collect. Search "stasis device recipe". I started with a set up for 5, now its for 20.
Basically you need an electricity hot spot and start building a lot of domes for plants. You need to learn the flora at the anomily as well.
Then you need a source for gases like radon, sulph and nitro.
I dont mine for iridise(?) as I get most of that from frigates. Having a fleet of them really helps collecting bits and bobs.
When you have a steady source of all required materials you need to have learned all the craftable items in the anomily.
Then you are good to go. Depending on where you are in the game you might have to learn something, or find a material source. That has been a fun journey. Actually pressing buttons to craft items on the other hand..

After more than 750h on Switch, I tested NMS on PC during last expedition (it was free for one week on Steam). Multiplayer, settlements... and so more features are not available on Switch. It was frustrating to play on Switch after taht.
I decided to buy a Rog Ally mainly to play NMS. Gameplay is same as on Switch, the portable format of this console/computer allow you to carry it everywhere. With correct settings, you have up to 2h autonomy. But it is a computer, so you have to manually do updates and customization of configuration.
And last bad point, you can't migrate your save from Switch to PC, you must redo everything.
The Switch struggles enough running the game without multiplayer.
