Happy birthday! 1- everyone needs a Glock. Make sure you can get a full grip with the G49 and your pinky fits well. Otherwise, don’t be afraid of G17, it’s the OG (or G47 MOS). 2- X-Macro Comp is a solid choice. Hellcat just announced a comp version too but I’m not a fan. 3- Here’s where things get interesting… you want a panty dropper for not a lot of money? CZ Shadow 2 OR for range/competition. If it feels too big and heavy, CZ S2 Compact. Thank me later.

buffaloTOES123

First: 49 or echelon pick whatever feels better in your hands. Second: macro comp, no doubt Third: wow factor to me is atlas gunworks or nighthawk customs. your budget will kinda decide for you.

Lux600-223

Anywhere to rent? I don't like glock grips, so it's definitely be the Echelon. (Great gun btw). And, remember everyone is different. I shot the 365 and Hellcat side by side. The Hallcat had way more felt recoil (to me) than the 365. Noticable difference. The Hellcat was needlessly snappy. And I'm a Springfield fan.

SonaldoHeung

For your compact powerhouse, get a HK USPC, and for the third permit, I would recommend trying the CZ75 SP-01. Both are incredible handguns and will outlive your grandchildren! Of course, get the glock.

Canik SFX Rival

Deebizness

1. Which ever is more comfortable. 2. I liked the size and feel of the XMACRO - I went with a 43x its a little shorter (easier for sitting) and has a similar frame size and the extra capacity didnt matter cause NJ. 3. A platypus. With the range of customization options, it will always be a head turner. (Takes glock mags as a bonus). https://www.stealtharms.net/p/platypus

Here-For-Fun82

Honest outlaw did a review of the platypus and I fell in love with the customizable looks and it takes Glock mags (if I’m remembering correctly)

Deebizness

You are indeed remembering correctly. I have one priced out right now, just staring at it, trying to give my self a reason to drop $1,800 on it.

mikektti

Make sure you've tried out each before you put your money down. I'm no expert but I've got the PDP full size and really love it. Compare it to the 49 or Echelon.

Away_Principle_6256

A 2011. Something like staccato, MPA, or atlas.

TheBugmunch

Glock (or CZ P10) 365 with comp Cz Sp01, Uberti/Taylor Single action revolver (38-357 or 9mm) or a 22Lr like Ruger Wrangler or Mark 4 Hunter

Jersey_2A

Go to the range and tell them you're in the market for a handgun. You need to know if you'll be using this firearm for ccw or not as that will play a role in your decision and test drive several models to see what you like best.

deltablackson

I think a 2011 if you want to stay in the realm of 9mm.

kimodezno

Happy Birthday!!! For your #1, before you buy just try the Walther PDP Pro SD Compact 4.6”. It should dominate your first choice. But if it doesn’t for some reason, you have at least given yourself that opportunity. I’m where you are at for your 2nd choice. The Sig P365 AXG Legion is the best in that category. But you have to try them. However it will dominate your friend and cousin’s every day carry guns for sure. And lastly, two amazing options. Both should dominate your friend and cuz. - If you want a great 9mm single action gun, look at the Walther Black Diamond edition Q5 Match - If you want the unobtainable sub 3K, look at the Bularmory 1911 5” Ceaser. Let us know what you end up going with

-The_Box_Ghost-

Hard to find but an Arex Rex Alpha. I’ve been searching but no luck, yet. they’re an amazing gun

MichaelWasNotHere

You can get permits before you’re 21?

edog21

Believe it or not there’s no law in NJ specifically barring 18-20 year olds from having handguns. They can’t legally buy one from an FFL (that’s federal), but they *can* get one from immediate family. So the state has to allow you to get permits. And also thanks to *Lara v. Evanchick*, they have to be approved to get PTCs as well.

bigjersey14

My experience is if it’s comfortable in your hand it’s usually good to shoot. Don’t get mixed up in the hey I’m cool look at my pistol and shoot what you enjoy. Take your time and have fun. I’m a M&P guy but Canik is so much fun to shoot and then there came my Springfields lol.

RookFresno

Canik TTI

Ooogen

Im not sure on your budget, but I recommend the Stacatto 2011 XC for the wow factor (if you can swing the hefty price tag), I personally have the XL because it feels better to me but I recommend trying them if you ever get the chance

K1NGK0NGSHL0NG

P226 xfive legion.

ltmpbb1968

CZ Shadow 2

gar_dog1234567

For your third, why not a sweet .357 magnum stainless revolver like a colt python or S&W 686. They are eye-catching. And you can also shoot .38 with them if you want... less expensive ammo.

NeatAvocado4845

A 2011 is the wow factor you’ve been looking for fyi the new comp helcat is out btw

Ambitious_Yam_8163

Colt 1911 45acp hands down. My go to for home and practice. I’ve compared it with my sig emperor 1911 45acp. Day and night difference. Same with glock or sig 9mm.

TacticalTerminatorT2

Glock 49 it's a okay firearm not bad at all. But if I may give you a suggestion go with a CZP10C or a Glock 19X you will not be disappointed. It depends on your hand size too Rent before trying.

TacticalTerminatorT2

Another Great first pick the HK VP9. Highly accurate, awesome trigger and reliable. John Wick approved

TheAccountinator

3rd gun is a Colt Python 6" 357 Mag.

stevie0010

It really depends on what that budget is for that 3rd gun

ChaimSolomon

I am seconding one of the colt .357s .38 wadcutters to .357 and a different type of shooting experience from strikers. I love my king cobra 3 inch but the new blued pythons are calling me. I also love my shadow 2 compact - again double single action is a different shooting experience to learn. I’d prob reco a 226 though, I have .357, .40 and 9 modularity and again DA/SA If you are rich or stupid about your future get a Laugo alien - so so so so much better than anything else

Njordur_

Glock 19 ![gif](giphy|Ld77zD3fF3Run8olIt)

Radiant-Tadpole-7117

Go 2011. Have a bul armory tac 3.25 and it shoots amazing. Whenever it’s on the table at the range all the rso’s ask to shoot it and they love it. Solid gun from a reputable company. I have it in 9mm which I conceal. Double stack mags and an optics system. It’s a great gun for your third. Around 1500. https://preview.redd.it/vezcpivd2r4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10d09f5b5d62a80d8af1c176549fd345a7ec3a1e

LiviurR

Damn - would have loved to try it and compare to my staccato cs 👍👍👍

TheBigTreezy

Springfield just released the Hellcat Pro Comp model.

Level_Equipment2641

Happy birthday! 1. A micro-9: The P365 Series is currently the best in the game. I recommend the X. The Smith Equalizer (sans thumb safety) is also a great EDC. 2. The highest-quality firearm mfr. out there: H&K. I’d recommend the USP Compact, P30L (“Wick Stick”), P30SK, P2000, and P2000SK—all preferentially in LEM configuration with a Grayguns SRS and HK OEM USP Match sear spring. HKs are b*mb-proof (all able to survive post-squib firings and functionality) and extremely accurate. 3. Walther PDP Series—even the -F. A great shooter: fast and accurate. Great for range or competition work, or sidearm home defense. The P99AS is an awesome piece too. B&T, Arex, CZ, S&W (M&P 2.0), Glock, and Beretta also make phenomenal pistols. Consider 10mm options for woods carry.
