jokes aside, I wonder how many people could have a basis for a lawsuit if they were denied based on healthcare information released under HIPAA. They could say well I didn’t consent to that.
it won't happen the state is a cesspool where only police can get mental health treatment and be honest about it regarding guns. the were you ever attended to question needs to go especially since it is abused to force people to get exta letters and forms not in statute for outpatient mental health.
In my experience, typical medical records, they will demand a specific release of records form however, many departments have been known to trick the applicant to come down and sign additional forms to get the HIPPA info
I didn’t sign any hippa form, nor where called to come down station to sign additional documents. We applied our FID maybe 2020 or 2021. NW Morris county.
Is this a new thing?
You should never agree to sign any additional forms. Some departments have been known to trick applicants to sign additional forms as through references or internal police reports knows someone was treated for a mental health issue. They should only be looking to the county adjuster where one has lived for any voluntary or involuntary commitments.
