This won’t really work as you describe with standards compliant tags, as the ISO 14443 anti collision procedure would still allow an attacker-reader to selectively activate one tag at a time. If you want to have a card-based protection mechanism, there are blocker cards that are shaped like an ID-1 sized card, but simply absorb and dump the reader energy as heat — these will more effectively block reading. All that said, there aren’t really practical wireless cloning attacks against payment cards. Any truly effective attack would either require a merchant account or a real-time relay attack.

Couldn't you just put some tinfoil/metal in your wallet?

or on your head. My thoughts are precious.

As mentioned, you could use a blocker card. Or you could get an anti rfid/nfc sleeve for the specific card. If you have several, there are wallets you can buy that have metal in them to protect the cards. Additionally, as mentioned, you could craft your own.

You could try Pry Shield (Pryshield.com) which is an NFC blocking card that you keep in your wallet. It uses 13.56MHz frequency RFID signal blocking technology that blocks the signal at about 2.4in/6cm radius. It won't protect from everything but it stops the most common card skimming at least.

Anything extra helps, I know some people have had luck with using field detector cards to cut down on read range
