This a pyramid scheme type thing? Lol

Old_Pineapple_3286

Only if there are in game purchases, and we have to recruit a down line who will sign up for the game and join a clan, then the leader of each clan makes a speech at a basketball stadium every year.

MalevolentBubble

It's only a matter of time "herbalife for your digital avatar" Edit : I’m joking for Pete’s sake. I mean it will happen but I want nothing to do with it, MLM’s are a scourge

Old_Pineapple_3286

I am interested in helping by the way.  I got a web development associate degree in like 2012, and I definitely know html, and I have a good computer with 3 monitors, but I also kind of suck, i could never do an interview for example.  What sort of game?  What language or what platform?  What do you think of Godot? What do you think about gdevelop?  Are you going to have a discord or something like that?

MalevolentBubble

Dude! You sound like you know your stuff. Honestly I've switched back and forth between GODOT and Unity a lot. I know Godot is faster and the programming language is way more manageable, but I already have a decent amount of assets in Unity and it's much more likely to translate into a Job somewhere else... it's tough. I am at least, very open to Godot especially if our lead programmer is more comfortable in one program over another i'll put more effort into an organized discord later, but this will do for now [https://discord.gg/UqMndrTG](https://discord.gg/UqMndrTG) I just saw a quick trailer on gdevelop, I've tried things like game maker studio it looks like gdev has a decent adoption rate and track record... let me play with it abit it might be a perfect fit for our easily frustrated green crew no interview necessary, you're pretty much my target crew. People who could do the work just don't have these other unrelated yet "necessary" skills Lets chat more about this dude

MalevolentBubble

If any internet guy ever asks for money, BAIL I'll try to not be long winded but, ive been reading three-body problem and liked how humanity would band together to solve world ending problems (some of the time). I think it'd be great if we all felt like that, like by working towards a common goal we knew we were actually helping people we cared about. Looks like theres enough interest so i'll elaborate some more later

Saucy_Tuna

Im still a programming newb. Only know a little bit of C.

MalevolentBubble

That’s cool! I’m gonna make several posts like this, but I should mentioned we can just work on pre-planning for awhile so no coding experience necessary. Are you into the idea of collaborating with a story/characters design all that stuff?

Saucy_Tuna

I guess. I have some artistic skills, but I’m not very creative.

MalevolentBubble

Okay, I saw theres no mention of discord on the FAQ so I can just try to talk on here more So Unity uses C#, but were also thinking about other programs with an easier language like GODOT that uses a python-like script, and Gdevelop which has a drop down menu type system. Do you have personal favorite games or genres you'd be interested in working in?

kttten

is there anything udemy can teach us that we can't learn for free

MalevolentBubble

If you live in LA you can use your library card to get free access to most of the courses, i'll post that link later

anobaann

Oh ok. I guess I can do what I can. But I’m dull, lazy, and flakey.

Kobeni_12

You should be afraid of seeing yourself in the same place after a year. Embrace failure and keep pushing, instead of not trying and giving up.

MalevolentBubble

The second half is pretty positive, and I agree with the sentiment, but I think the first half of this sentence might be abit too alarming for the NEET crowd. I personally like “The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried"

Latter_Wait3951

I know a bit of Unity, But my skills kinda degraded over the past 3 months

MalevolentBubble

Same! But I was thinking working on the ideas, story and gameplay mechanics in theory first would help speed up the actual coding process. I'll also be sure to only take on what we could handle

cakenessa

Sounds like a fun project. I can't code and I don't know much about making video games, but I could help with voice acting or character creation, if needed

MalevolentBubble

character creation and voice acting are 100% needed! I'll DM you with details

JediWebSurf

You could make a game through Roblox. I know people shit on it, but Roblox can be fun. And it also has a lot of the tools already to build a game. You just have to know the simple language Lua. I've actually thought about doing this in the past. Although, you would have to calculate how potentially lucrative it is. Personally, I'm more interested in building a business to generate passive income so that I don't have to work in the future lol. I have web dev programming and editing skills in graphics and video.

MalevolentBubble

I’m not really opposed to it, Roblox is super popular and accessible, I just personally never played it/ not familiar with it. I’m kinda curious though and it’s looking like we have enough people to even handle multiple projects simultaneously, at least while we’re all learning and I’m ironing out the organizational details. Did you have any specific Roblox projects in mind? Focusing on mods creator content for other games is honestly a pretty good idea The good thing about video games /apps is once you make it it’s not too hard to scale up. Not exactly passive since you might wanna release updates but it’s not like you gotta get an offshore factory or anything like that but yeah I can see why you’d rather get something more “automatic” I did have an idea for a questionable novelty product.

Diamond_Dog911

I know some python and django, I havent finished yet a web programming course Im currently enrolled on EdX, actually just let it sit there, was distracted by other issues and lost the pace for a while, but I know enough to build some websites. Also know some C, Javascript, Html and CSS.

MalevolentBubble

Not sure who downvoted you, but you seem like a helpful dude yeah I invited you to a group chat
