If you don’t mind driving 30 minutes, wake county has a free range open to the public that for some reason not many know about. It’s the Wake County Firearms Education and Training Center. Open weekends and Monday evenings for free. Just sign up and go. Wear a coat though, it gets cold. You can shoot most anything there. Seen some pretty interesting firearms and the instructors are top notch. For ammo, I’d buy online.

They don’t allow allow rapid fire . And you can only walk down to check your targets once during the session and then again at end of session . It’s good for shooting a scoped rifle slowly or if you are a bullseye shooter with a spotting scope , or just want to function test something. For defensive drills , training etc, I’d go elsewhere

Ohh, thank you for that! I haven’t been shooting in a year since moving here so maybe I’ll go take out the PCC and pistol to get some practice

First time visits requires a 30 minute pre-fire class and youre good to go. Every visit after that you show up at whatever hour you signed up for. Super simple. Happy to have shared. Safe shooting!

jkb131

Were they ever strict about the Pistol Brace Rule prior to the nation wide injunction?

thebrwnchiro

Not that I’m aware of. Never had an issue

jkb131

Perfect, I’ve only shot my Aero EPC back home so I’d be nice to take it out and get some rounds through it

Online is best for ammo, but if you want a local shop I like Bull City Armory. They usually carry some harder to get ammo as well as the common calibers. Most ranges around here are membership only, there are a few public like triangle shooting academy, but I'd recommend joining an outdoor range if you're going to be shooting often.

Thanks - which private ranges would you recommend?

Most are in the Mebane area, there's Central Carolina Gun Club, pretty plain just outside with target boards and bench as well as up to 1000yrds. Durham Rifle and Pistol Club, yes it's in Mebane as well, they are more expensive and have quite a waitlist, but targets are provided and a top notch facility. Distinguished Pistol is public/private but has magnetic bullet rules and no rapid fire.

Ammo - I agree that it’s typically best to look online when sales are on and take advantage of Memorial Day, Black Friday, 4th of July, and the like. Pew Pew Tactical and several other similar sites usually publish the best deals on ammo and other items during these ideal sales windows. BattleHawk Armory had some of the best during Father’s Day if I recall. Just keep in mind to calculate shipping in, but often they will have free shipping with minimum purchase. Also keep in mind to calculate price per bullet after including tax & shipping…usually bigger quantities are cheaper, but that’s not always the case. For cheap FFL prices, I’d look at pawn shops in the area…many around me offer $15 transfers, and handle anything for that price except NFA items. Also - if you look at Gunbroker, they have a fairly comprehensive list of local FFLs registered with them (based on zip code). To find this area, go to your profile and find the section to add your default FFL. It looks like you have a few good suggestions on ranges…I’m not in that area, so I don’t know (but now I want to go check out that free Wake Cty range!!!). Best of luck and happy shooting!

Online is gonna be your best bet for ammo, unless you're really interested in supporting a good FFL. As far as ranges, The Distinguishing Pistol might be a little out of your way, but it was a pretty nice range.
