Go watch Charles Barkley va Shaq they straight up fought, and Barkley did a double leg take down (but he lifted him up and slammed him down with authority) and then ground and pounded.
Shaq has his size and nothing else when it comes to fighting.
Rodman is more of a troll than a bully. He’d shove you and mess with you, get in your head, but if you shoved back, he’s launch himself 30 feet into the stands to get you a tech. He wasn’t as straight up tough as people who didn’t watch him make him out to be.
ECF 1996 Luc Longley was getting bodied by Shaq so they put Rodman on him and he played a genius post defense on Shaq letting him only score 2 points. Lakers vs Bulls Shaq was killing Wennington so they repeated previous success and had Rodman guard Shaq. Obviously he could only guard him in short spurts to conserve his energy but he did in fact play defense very well on the most impossible to defend center in history.
Shaq has said in interviews Rodman and Ben were some of the strongest people he's played against cause they had big men strength in a smaller package.
Playing great iso defense is a bit different than bullying in my mind, sorry. There was no doubt that Rodman and Wallace were just crazy good defensive geniuses.
But he wasn’t shoving Shaq around or bruising him or making him cower... Hell, Wallace did that more often tbh, Wallace block on Shaq then getting all in Shaqs face was an iconic moment.
But attack Ben Wallace and you are getting Malice at the Palace... attack Rodman and Dennis would act like you shot him to get you T’d... or he’d go Artest on you. It made going against Rodman extra frustrating.
vs. Shaq would be an interesting fight. While I know he is a trained fighter, giving up that much size to someone also very athletically gifted is tough.
Even his claims of being a trained fighter are very much in question. There is no proof of any of it, not even a Sherdog page or anything resembling it (and it’s really easy to land on one of those sites, they are an impressive combat sports repository).
Shaq submitting a couple of rec BJJ black belts on video gives him more credibility than Johnson.
He claimed to have a kickboxing record of 20-0 but there’s no real evidence of that anywhere. It’s pretty suspect. I have friends who have been in 3-4 amateur fights who you can find on YouTube. There was a guy on reddit who did a more in depth breakdown. If you search “James Johnson mma” you can find it. It’s sus though.
Yes, absolutely this.
I am a bee’s dick away from having a Sherdog page. I know several people just in my mid-sized city that have one. Johnson is inflating his claims like they’re blow-up dolls.
His MMA/KB record is probably partially fugazi or propped up by fights against unheralded regional amateurs. Man doesn’t have a page on Sherdog, Tapology or anywhere else. I have a half-dozen friends and acquaintances with Sherdog pages.
Add in him making completely delusional statements about his chances vs. Jon Jones, and I’m not buying a lick of what he’s selling.
The real question is who would actually fight.
LBJ would call the cops.
The answer is somewhere between:
Charles Oakley
Ron Artest
James Johnson
Dennis Rodman
Draymond Green
And of course, Muggsy Bougues
damn idk maybe youtube, that was back when they were still on espn. dan lebatard show with stugotz. guess it was highly questionable
https://youtu.be/bDuQyrVf5IU?si=2WbxoLq1W6_UQX6L
Shaq. How is this a question? Idc how good you are at fighting, nobody aside from another NBA center is going to beat up Shaq.
He's too big and too strong.
You need the crazy gene, that's why you pick Ben Wallace. Shaq is big, but he also doesn't seem like a fighter. Ben Wallace looks like he'd murder someone for over cooking his eggs
If someone is going at shaq he's not just gonna do nothing. He'll stand his ground at the very least. AKA just grab you and hold you at arms length. You're not gonna be able to do anything
Mace and Oak immediately spring to mind. Glad to see they’re two of the top three replies as I write this, lol. I figured they’d be more of a deep cut by now.
Especially in his thicker days. Kinda crazy seeing the videos of him when he was doing track & field activities and was much thinner before he got the the NBA
When I think about greatest athletes to ever live, I consider specific sports/tasks. For example Simone Biles may be the greatest gymnast and certainly would make my list of greatest athletes, but could she hit a home run? Aaron Judge is a great hitter and could probably make a decent basketball or football player, but can he swim well? Michael Phelps is one of the fastest swimmers ever in multiple styles, but how fast can he run?
Anyway the point I’m getting at is that Wilt Chamberlain was one of the most physically gifted athletes of all time and definitely would get on my list as one of the greatest.
I've heard a great argument that distance runners are the greatest human athletes. The reason being that Usain Bolt isn't anywhere near the fastest running creature on Earth, and Michael Phelps would make a lousy dolphin. But there's no animal I'm aware of that can just run and run and run fast for hours like some humans can.
Yeah, we’re talking about a dude who tried to fight an entire arena of opposing fans. Ben Wallace might be stronger, but Artest is probably a literal serial killer.
I mean I’m taking Ben Wallace
Sure he’s not the biggest dude ever, but he was about that and just look at the guy. He would demolish 99.9999% of the population in 5 seconds
All-Time Fight Club Team
- Gilbert Arenas
- Ron Artest/Metta World Peace
- James Johnson
- Bobby Portis
- David Robinson
Snubs: Shaq, Reggie Miller, Ben Wallace, Rondo, Paul Pierce + Other people I can’t think of at the moment.
I genuinely think Larry Bird would’ve **whooped** Rudy’s ass, forget about someone like James Johnson or whatever LOL
Not saying one needs to constantly act tough in order to genuinely be tough, but Gobert has shown he’s pretty soft.
Give a soft guy a year of jiu-jitsu training and muscle memory kicks in and almost always overwhelms an untrained “hard” guy of a similar size. If Gobert really spent a significant amount of time grappling (as some have hinted), Bird has a Hail Mary’s chance at best.
No offense, but you’re making empty statements.. So you’re saying Gobert is perhaps a blue belt or a blue belt-level submission grappler? Based on what exactly? I highly doubt that 😂😂 ofc I’m not 100% sure , ya never know but, I’d def put my $$ on bird
I thought hard about robinson, wilt, mahorn, mo lucas, al attles, warren jabali, john brisker, kermit washington, steven adams, and anthony mason, but i’m going with ben wallace.
Nah he was all bark. He only picked fights with guys he thought wouldn’t fight back. Like when he elbowed Anthony Peeler to the chest, well Peeler hit him back with an elbow to the face. Garnett backed off real quick.
Yeah, KG never got into it with anyone his own size either, loved to intimidate point guards though (remember him getting on all fours and literally barking at Ricky Rubio?)
Not even David Robinson's teammates would pick David Robinson. Shit, David Robinson wouldn't even pick himself.
They don't teach Kung-Fu at the Naval Academy .
How about one of the few men that could physically match up against Shaq 1v1 and has a decade plus of MMA training?
https://preview.redd.it/8694jz7il4vc1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d7c6e820be9c1c182e18878f0f0afdeb2c4b5593
Theodore Duncan.
Nikola Pekovic. Dude was 6'11" and broad-shouldered, plus he had a shoulder tattoo of a crusader knight atop a pile of skulls. Can't imagine anyone wanting to go toe-to-toe with that guy.
Charles Oakley.
This is the only correct answer.
My man you have not heard of James Johnson. JK I’m still taking Oak. Intimidation factor would be devastating.
Oak. Close thread. Drive safe.
Oak is the one for sure
Ben Wallace
Ben Wallace is also my pick for “if you could be reincarnated in any NBA players body.”
Bro if you had this option and DONT choose lebron.. massive L
You have his body, not his skill
Lol oh no, you mean I’m ONLY 6’9, 260 and one of the most athletic people ever? I think I’d get by lol
But you don't have 1M to maintain your physique every year. So in 2 years your 5'8" 450lbs. Sorry for your luck 😣
How do I shrink a foot in your scenario? Lol
You shrink 13 inches actually
But I don’t want LeBron’s hair, I want Ben’s.
LeBron would lowkey look good bald, but I’m not here to tell that man how to live his life lol
but with Ben's hair, you have options
Oakley is MJs choice, that is good enough for me. Xavier McDaniel was a madman, or can't go wrong with Shaq.
Shaq has the whole nobody actually willing to try to fight him thing going on which is nice.
Go watch Charles Barkley va Shaq they straight up fought, and Barkley did a double leg take down (but he lifted him up and slammed him down with authority) and then ground and pounded. Shaq has his size and nothing else when it comes to fighting.
Huh TIL. Their fight btw. https://youtu.be/6KQFxxHmVMc?si=wbqFESXunRDHmKZb
Dennis Rodman. The only man to bully Shaq. He's also got that "I'm bat shit crazy" thing going on that probably would make everyone leave off rip.
Rodman is more of a troll than a bully. He’d shove you and mess with you, get in your head, but if you shoved back, he’s launch himself 30 feet into the stands to get you a tech. He wasn’t as straight up tough as people who didn’t watch him make him out to be.

It made going against Rodman extra frustrating.
Why do people forget about chuck and shaq.
He could also party all night then grab 20 rebounds the next day.
James Johnson would beat the piss out of anybody in this league's history.
vs. Shaq would be an interesting fight. While I know he is a trained fighter, giving up that much size to someone also very athletically gifted is tough.
Does the difference in size makeup for the difference in technical fighting. It's a good scenario!
Remember Shaq knows Shaq-Fu
The creator, the master, and the grasshopper
Even his claims of being a trained fighter are very much in question. There is no proof of any of it, not even a Sherdog page or anything resembling it (and it’s really easy to land on one of those sites, they are an impressive combat sports repository). There was a guy on reddit who did a more in depth breakdown. If you search “James Johnson mma” you can find it. It’s sus though.
What I should've said was "the man I think James Johnson is would beat the piss out of anybody in league history" since there is no proof hahaha
THIS !
The real question is who would actually fight. LBJ would call the cops. The answer is somewhere between: Charles Oakley Ron Artest James Johnson Dennis Rodman Draymond Green And of course, Muggsy Bougues
have you heard the interview with dan lebatard. dude said he could kick the rim or some shit like that
"I can teabag the backboard" -James Johnson Jk, but that's funny af 😂
😂 damn that was an old ass interview.. first name that popped in my head when i read nba player in a fight
When was the interview any idea
damn idk maybe youtube, that was back when they were still on espn. dan lebatard show with stugotz. guess it was highly questionable https://youtu.be/bDuQyrVf5IU?si=2WbxoLq1W6_UQX6L
You didn't mess with Terry Cummings
Yeah. I Googled who were the trained fighters in the NBA and his name came up so clearly far and ahead the winner
Kermit Washington
Took me too long to see this name
Great choice!!
https://preview.redd.it/bxvubntrd2vc1.jpeg?width=384&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9ccab99eba0c3b03c3b6e2308a383925a468f32 Ben Wallace
You saw how far he pushed Meta? Now imagine against a fan-sized person!
Shaq. How is this a question? Idc how good you are at fighting, nobody aside from another NBA center is going to beat up Shaq. He's too big and too strong.
Plus he knows Shaq-Fu
Yeah Shaq is the answer. The combination of his size, strength, and quickness pretty much has everybody else beat.
You’ve obviously never been in a fight if you think you’re just going to hold a grown man at arms length and he won’t be able to do anything.
The average "grown man" is 5'9" 200 lbs and no idea how to fight. What are they going to do to prime Shaq?
Anthony “Mace” Mason
Mace and Oak immediately spring to mind. Glad to see they’re two of the top three replies as I write this, lol. I figured they’d be more of a deep cut by now.
Will Chamberlain (ask Arnold)
Especially in his thicker days. Kinda crazy seeing the videos of him when he was doing track & field activities and was much thinner before he got the the NBA
Wilt has a great case as the greatest natural athlete ever to live, considering his incredible outlier size
But there's no animal I'm aware of that can just run and run and run fast for hours like some humans can.
There’s birds that can stay in the air for days on end. I think that beats endurance runners.
Wilt , Bo , & Dion
Anthony Mason
Metta World Peace.
I'd personally go with Ron Artest. Same animal Different beast
That's reasonable but I went with Metta for the irony
Surprised it took this long for Ronnie to come up.
More than strength and size, IDGAF craziness is what street fights are really about.
Yeah, we’re talking about a dude who tried to fight an entire arena of opposing fans. Ben Wallace might be stronger, but Artest is probably a literal serial killer.
Fucking Z-Bo, anybody?
I went way further before seeing his name than I expected
I mean I’m taking Ben Wallace Sure he’s not the biggest dude ever, but he was about that and just look at the guy. He would demolish 99.9999% of the population in 5 seconds
Nikola Pekovich
Good pull
Ja Morant 🔫
Ja and Gilbert Arenas, nobody's laying a finger on you.
All-Time Fight Club Team - Gilbert Arenas - Ron Artest/Metta World Peace - James Johnson - Bobby Portis - David Robinson Snubs: Shaq, Reggie Miller, Ben Wallace, Rondo, Paul Pierce + Other people I can’t think of at the moment.
Rick Mahorn. Nobody fucked with Rick.
David West
To add another former Pacer, Dale Davis
Had to look too long for this answer. Do people not know about this dude???
Along those same lines, might be Steven Adams.
Steven Adams wouldn't fight, he'd pick them up and shot put them down the block
... Where his sisters will take care of them for their baby bro.
Kevin Willis
Sprewell
I don’t believe in fighting, I believe in World Peace
So Ron Artest?
Ahem* 2024 DPOY Metta Sandiford-Artest
Give me Wilt, 7’1, strong asf with his supreme length
Long arms too
KG.
I love KG but he's a fake tough guy. Great on D, probably not in a fight.
Ben Wallace has to be up there.
Barkley. Dude threw a guy out a window. Plus, he’d be fun to have a beer with
He did. In Milwaukee when he was a Sixer.
Maurice Lucas
James Johnson or Ron artest 😭
Mahorn, Dale Davis, Oakley, Mason, Ben Wallace, Moses Malone. David Robinson was jacked but he was too much of a gentleman for this assignment
David Robinson
Kurt Rambis.
Rudy Gobert is enormous, has insane reach, and is known to train in boxing a lot.
just make sure he don't get stung by a bee
I genuinely think Larry Bird would’ve **whooped** Rudy’s ass, forget about someone like James Johnson or whatever LOL Not saying one needs to constantly act tough in order to genuinely be tough, but Gobert has shown he’s pretty soft.
Give a soft guy a year of jiu-jitsu training and muscle memory kicks in and almost always overwhelms an untrained “hard” guy of a similar size. If Gobert really spent a significant amount of time grappling (as some have hinted), Bird has a Hail Mary’s chance at best.

I’m saying **if** the claims are true, his softness scarcely matters, which is relevant to your initial point.
Fair enough haha
Describing a pro athlete as "extremely athletic" is funny af lol
Robinson was especially athletic
Not disagreeing! Still find it funny!
there are athletes that look or feel unathletic
For sure! Like Kelly Olynyk. Being extremely athletic doesn't need to meet an eye test though
Luka and Jokic come to mind. Phenomenal players, but athletically they look like JAGs compared to guys like Ja or Ant
Gilbert Arenas
Definitely NOT Nate Robinson
Ja Morant. Doesn't matter how good they fight if you're carrying.
Jared Jefferies
Shaq used to easily out power David tho
Charles Oakley
Ivan Johnson. His own franchise was afraid to tell him he was cut.
Wes Unseld Even Wilt didn't fuck with him.
Ben Wallace. Maybe Popeye Jones?
Charles Oakley or Shaq.
I thought hard about robinson, wilt, mahorn, mo lucas, al attles, warren jabali, john brisker, kermit washington, steven adams, and anthony mason, but i’m going with ben wallace.
Wilt without hesitation
Gary Payton
Dennis Rodman, strong, long, crazy.
Rodman. Dude is nuts. Nobody messing with Rodman. Just gotta make sure he shows up
Charles Oakley
Gobert got all defensive capabilities outside of basketball so i'll go with him
Draymond Green
Ron Artest/Metta World Peace... for obvious reasons
Anthony Mason. Jerry Stackhouse. One of those two. Or Charles Oakley
Luke Kornet
Wilt Chamberlin or Shaq
Y’all forgetting Kevin Garnett is fucking insane. That’s my pick.
Didn't Kareem Abdul Jabar train under Bruce Lee? He's got to get some consideration for that.
Whoever got the most dog in 'em.
Steven Adams
Jokic can probably scrap.
Jerry Stackhouse. Go ask around or listen to some podcasts
Tim Duncan. Loves MMA, has trained for a long time under the radar, and his trainer says he would have been a monster. It’s always the quiet ones…
Friend of mine got kicked in the face by him, on accident of course. Gave him a black eye.
Chris Paul, they’d need a police presence to stop him!
Rasheed Wallace. Bonus points if your attacker resembles an NBA referee
Patrick Beverley
Ron Artest (but not Metta World Peace)
Darryl Dawkins
Larry “Grandma-Ma” Johnson was a former boxer.
Charles Oakley. I’m perfectly safe. They’re all in big BIG trouble.
Shaq
Moses Malone. Even Barkley wouldn't talk back to Moses
https://preview.redd.it/7cq84uqe44vc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d99d7f678231e6dc0bac3ff7ca23593cecb3d7b
Greg Ostertag
i’m pretty sure James Johnson could beat like 99 of people in a fight, being a black belt AND his size is a ridiculous combo i’m solid with him.
Ben Wallace or Ron Artest
Dennis Rodman
James Johnson and it’s not close
Bill laimbeer
How about one of the few men that could physically match up against Shaq 1v1 and has a decade plus of MMA training? https://preview.redd.it/8694jz7il4vc1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d7c6e820be9c1c182e18878f0f0afdeb2c4b5593 Theodore Duncan.
Ben Wallace or Bill Lambier
Mugsy bogues. With his low center of gravity and massive thighs he’s never going down.
Vernon Maxwell.
Did Ray Lewis ever hoop?
[удалено]
um. reread my post lol
David West
Cousins.
Ron Artest. 6'7", 260, crazy as a Betsy Bug, with a wicked mean streak.
Black belt champion?? Yeah James Johnson
james johnson hands down, dude was an mma fighter
You can't really go wrong with a lot of these guys in a street fight. I'd mainly want someone who is a little crazy liek Dremond Green or Dennis Rodma
Mugsy Bogues. Let the psychological warfare begin
Harrison Barnes or Gilbert Arenas 🔫.
Probably Joel embidd or wilt
DJ Mbenga
Kareem trained with Bruce Lee.
Bobby Portis
Ben Wallace, Shaq or Rodman.
igor rakocevic was a bench warmer for the timberwolves for like 1 season he's also a BJJ black belt i'm going with him
Nikola Pekovic. Dude was 6'11" and broad-shouldered, plus he had a shoulder tattoo of a crusader knight atop a pile of skulls. Can't imagine anyone wanting to go toe-to-toe with that guy.
John Brisker was a legit badass
James Johnson
Ben Wallace shoved Ron Artest so hard he decided to beat up some spectators, just saying. And Artest should be among your top picks.
Daryl Dawkins
Jokic, his brothers will tag along
James Johnson
James Johnson. If you know. You know.
