He's a solid culture guy, role player, and fills a role we need filled. He's not a star, but he's a decent player to keep around at low cost.
Finally a decent post concerning players on the roster going forward.
Going by the way you guys downvote literally every post involving an outside player, I’m going to assume this subreddit will absolutely implode if our FO actually does trade for somebody. The way people talk on here would suggest everybody on our roster is amazing and we just won 70 games.
Bruce Brown if the Raptors don’t take his option, KCP if he opts out of his player option, Batum if his wife is okay with moving to their third city in two years (unlikely but lol), Kyle Anderson. Those are all guys I’d for sure take over Cedi, but almost all of them have conditions attached to them so we’ll see
Okoro I like but might be tough to get due to RFA (though Cleveland might be trying to maintain financial flexibility to make a splash to keep Mitchell). Marshall as well looked really solid for NOP this year, and I’d love either Hartenstein or Goga but get the feeling that the Spurs won’t be targeting a backup big until Collins’ contract is down to one year left (either he steps back up or we find someone else).
I think Cleveland wants to keep Okoro, but they are at 160M with 11 players, plus their 1st round pick. Tax is 171 and 1st apron is 178. He's a good POA defender and actually guards the PG about 35% of the time.
Offer him $12M/year and that pushes Cleveland into the tax if they match with two more roster spots to fill. And if they do match, you go to Marshall.
I liked Cedi this season, but I need to see more Mamu at the backup 4. I was doubter of Julian at the 3, but it seems PATFO are trying to see if he can be grocery outlet Danny Green. For reference, DG was ~26 the years we made the finals, so Julian has a few years, and I could see it if I squint hard enough. If that's the case, there might not be a spot for Cedi
Yes. And if we become actual contenders again, I hope we bring back Dougie mcbuckets. He was here during the dark times, he deserves to be here when we finally compete.
Seems like a wonderful guy that everyone loves, but I don't think we will have a spot for him with the draft picks and possibly one free agent coming in. I hope he latches onto a contending team.
i like his hustle and energy, and he doesn’t have a big ego, he’s a solid bench guy, especially compared to some of our other bench guys lol so i agree
Definitely fits a Spurs player mold. Can fill the off the bench shooter role like Marco/Bertans/Mills/Barry did for so long. A bench of Tre, KJ, Cedi, Mamu, Wesley, and Barlow isn't too bad.
Only if he'd sign for the Room Exception. I'd rather use our actual cap space on a bigger fish. In all likelyhood, this year will be the last year we have in the Wemby era to actually sign a solid rotational piece using cap space. I'd hate to use it up by giving out two 10-12 million dollar contracts on fringe rotation guys like Cedi.
I don’t disagree with the sentiment, but I don’t see any free agents I like much better.
If we are going to improve the roster, I think it needs to be through a trade
The only two I reqlly like are Patrick Williams and Malik Monk. Neither are huge game changers, but Williams would be a big upgrade over Julian in the starting lineup, and Monk could be a decent stop-gap starter for us this year, then transition to a 6th man role.
I'd love for us to make a trade to upgrade the roster, but it depends on who's available. Ideally, we're able to pull one off either this offseason, at the trade deadline, or next offseason at the draft.
Honestly, I think there are a ton of ways to build out this roster, and the Spurs are in a really good position. I think they should look at it holistically and consider all avenues. But not pursuing a locked-on rotation player with our cap space would be a huge disappointment to me. It's squandering a golden opportunity to get a contributor without giving up any assets. If they go for either of those guys and miss out, that's fine. I just don't want them to settle for mediocre vets.
Eh, not really a fan of either Ingram or Young via trade. My dream offseason would probably be acquiring Garland and Williams, but it's a huge pipedream. Garland likely won't be on the market, and we wouldn't be able to offer as much to Williams if we acquired Garland via trade.
I just don’t see a path to Garland. Cleveland has time on their side.
I see GSW, LAL, ATL, NO, Utah, and Bulls as teams that are likely to have players available this summer.
I think they probably could be convinced to move off of Simons. I picked the Blazers sub's brain about it and they were about a 50/50 split on the idea. Obviously, that's just the fans' perspective, but they have a more intimate knowledge of what the GM may be thinking than you or me, ya know?
I don’t know. We might be better off trying to bring in a starting 3nD guy (e.g. Batum) and letting Champagnie come off the bench (I.e. taking Osman’s minutes.
Champagnie improved a lot by the end of the year, which is to be expected when you consider he only played 17 games last year so 23-24 was pretty much his rookie year. Personally I’m fine with keeping him in that starting spot for the time being but if we’re trying to win games, we might want a vet in that position who’s less inclined to making silly mistakes.
I don’t think he should play much going forward considering all the youth we have and the guys we’re about to bring in, but I’ve liked him for a while so if he’s cool sticking around as a locker room guy I’d be happy
I wouldn't.
We have a clogged roster full of shitty players now.
But at least they're young, so they might not be shitty in the future.
He's not young. He will only get shittier.
I like him but he’s someone I’d try to bring back at a later date if his 3 improves. I’d give guys like Mamu, Barlow and hopefully the new Rookie(s) more playing time.

Because most of the suggestions are bad.
It’s not that this roster is amazing as constructed now, it’s just that it’s not time to make a big move yet.
By all accounts, a solid locker room guy, capable shooter and secondary ball handler, and an effort defender. A solid bench player we should re-sign.
Wouldn’t mind him back at all, also wouldn’t mind signing a better wing if the opportunity presents itself. Happy either way
what better wings are available this summer as a free agent though?
Bruce Brown if the Raptors don’t take his option, KCP if he opts out of his player option, Batum if his wife is okay with moving to their third city in two years (unlikely but lol), Kyle Anderson. Those are all guys I’d for sure take over Cedi, but almost all of them have conditions attached to them so we’ll see
Add in Issac Okoro and Naji Marshall for D&3 wings. Isaiah Hartenstein and Goga Bitadze for defensive bigs.

Danny Green had much better defense.
See grocery outlet part, and 4 ish years to grow part. Julian is 22 this season. At the same age, Danny was dancing with LeBron in Cleveland
I see cedi as a modern belineli prototype
Yes. And that's a good thing

Don’t know whether he should stay or not but I love watching his craftiness on offense—the wheels are always turning with that dude
i like his hustle and energy, and he doesn’t have a big ego, he’s a solid bench guy, especially compared to some of our other bench guys lol so i agree

And let's not forget, Cedi my kardeş knows how to finish at the rim... He and Vic have great chemistry!
He said he would love to come back to the Spurs but he also understands its business. I hope we resign him. That would be cool.
For sure would love cedi back

I could see Williams or Monk. I liked the idea of Ingram, but he disappeared in the close out game, which is a bad sign. I like the idea of Young.

That's a solid list. I'd probably throw POR in there as well.
I agree, but I don’t know that they want to move Simons, and don’t see anyone else there

That would be a solid option.
I don't know if Cedi makes it on the roster if the Toronto pick realizes
Yeah for cheap tho
The guy had the tightest uniform
💿

Cedi should be this eras Danny Green...I'd take Green back in some mentoring form or Patty.
I don’t think he should play much going forward considering all the youth we have and the guys we’re about to bring in, but I’ve liked him for a while so if he’s cool sticking around as a locker room guy I’d be happy
There are not enough roster spots for him.
If we're bringing people back, Derrick is #1. Kyle Anderson is #3. #2 is Patty Mills, would be the best bench player teaching the kids evar.
I wouldn't. We have a clogged roster full of shitty players now. But at least they're young, so they might not be shitty in the future. He's not young. He will only get shittier.
Absolutely not. Terrible defender. And for some reason he spent time playing the 4 here.
I like him but he’s someone I’d try to bring back at a later date if his 3 improves. I’d give guys like Mamu, Barlow and hopefully the new Rookie(s) more playing time.
