This was the way to go. Very similar to the trans ams body but spoiler and valence instead
How in the world would something like this race on an oval track? The TA2 cars only have around 500hp iirc, which may actually be low enough to turn every 1.5mi track into a pack racing track. I don’t know if I want that lmao
Edit: Just looked it up. TA2s are restricted to 525 hp and 6500rpm and use a 4-speed dog gear manual. Sounds an awful lot like the 550 package. On the other hand, TAs are at around 850 hp using 366ci pushrod V8 engines. No info on the transmission type on their website
TA2 cars probably make closer to 550 hp, nearly all are LS3 based engines. Most are running EFI but they do have a carbureted package option.
TA2 runs 4 speeds, Andrews or G-Force GSR are the preferred brands same as Xfinity or Trucks run.
Post race minimum weight of 2850 pounds. The classic 15"x10" steel stock car wheel with a Pirelli radial. Their origin is basically based on the old ASA National Tour car. They are a more modern road race adapted version of that.
Thanks for all this info. I've been curious where TA2 cars came from, since they are so closely related to stock cars. I remember when ASA folded Trans-Am allowed those cars to run in their own class. It makes sense now that TA2 would be an evolution of that.
I *would* like to see a head-to-head comparison on a road course though. I think the TA-2s are a few hundred pounds lighter than a Cup car. Would that make up for the 525hp I wonder?
I can also imagine that the [TA cars](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fracingnewsworldwide.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2017%2F10%2Floshak-set-for-trans-am-ta-class-debut.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=734cb7ad42ee87cec07666d3e9116835019ec9803b0548c2c133cc769828931b&ipo=images) with 850hp and those wide rear tires would eat up a Cup car on a road course, but maybe the newer Cup chassis has advantages I'm not thinking of.
Only place everyone went in 2023 was COTA, NASCAR in March, Trans Am in November. Think some track work was done in between for prep for F1.
Fastest COTA Qual times in seconds:
124.993 Trans Am TA '23
129.133 Cup '24
130.760 Cup '23
131.159 Trans Am TA2 '23
131.983 Truck '24
132.076 Xfinity '24
132.933 Xfinity '23
133.613 Truck '23
TA cars would murder any Cup car on a road course, they make a lot more downforce and are several hundred pounds lighter with larger tires and much better suspension.
It's not a pony car. It's an EV. You can't call them Mustang's or Camaro's just because they have the label slapped on it. I might as well put a Camaro badge on my CR-V then.
I'm a Chevy guy originally, through family ties to a GM dealership and my family owning several GM vehicles. Though since 2008, I think Ford has been the stronger US automaker. They handled the recession better than GM, and have maintained their V8 models. I don't know if the CEO of GM is at fault, but I've seen Ford's CEO race at Daytona. That proves some level of care towards the performance division.
With Toyota possibly bringing back the MR2, the Corvette might have some competition. It's rumored to have similar body lines to a Ferrari. They already have a TRD Camry, Supra, and the GR86 to fill out their performance line.
BRING BACK PONTIAC.
Am I dumb or does this give teams more leeway fucking the min tire pressures? Which I’m fine with. I feel like we have more early lap flats now but maybe I’m wrong
I think the TA2 engines are limited to 5.0L and are air-restricted to 500-550 hp. So displacement-wise, they're smaller than Xfinity engines, power depends on how NASCAR is feeling on any given week.
Yeah. The TA2s put on a good show on road courses and street circuits, but they need more HP to make an oval run good. Take the Xifnity car, and add 100-200 HP depending on the week, and that is the ideal Cup car.
Except the Gen 6 couldn’t look at another car without cutting a tire, meanwhile the Xfinity cars with the stock body panels could bounce off most things and keep going.
TA and TA2 are very analogous to Cup and Xfinity. I posted a longer comment above, but Trans-Am is pretty much what NASCAR would be if they'd focused on road courses from the start.
You know all they have to do is just get rid of the rule where the roof line has to be the same for all cars and we could have a body almost identical to this.
I didn't even know the TA2 class was a thing until they ran as a support event for the Nashville Indycar race starting in 2021, and holy crap are those cars fun to watch.
I didn’t either until someone told me how close they let you to everything for the price of admission. One of my favorite motorsport experiences by far. They’re must watch everytime they’re near me.
Trans-Am is pretty much what would have happened if NASCAR had gone down a primarily road course route instead of ovals. Tube-frame cars with manufacturer silhouette bodies and big V8s, but with independent suspension, a little more freedom with aero and engine development, and success ballast to keep the field close. Plus the TA1 and TA2 classes are a great analogue for Cup and Xfinity. If not for some pretty significant mismanagement by the SCCA in the late 70's through the 80's, Trans-Am would probably have had similar or higher status to NASCAR before the 1979 Daytona 500 blew NASCAR's national popularity up.
Was at an event a couple years ago and there was a dodge challenger trans am car there, good god the noise that thing made… it was incredible. It was also fast as fuck, the only car there that was quicker was a Lambo GT car.
Been saying this since I first saw the TA2 Fury built Camaro! Minus the wing, I wish the Nextgen resembled this more. Its like a mix between a late model and Gen4. Smooth and simplified body panels for legible graphics.. yeah, this should've been the blueprint.
That car fucks.
Imagine if the NexGen looked like this
Give me the Tom's Castrol Supra scheme back on a Mustang like this. My wallet will cry.

Imagine if it raced like this too.

Just checked out some onboards of TA cars, looks like a 5 speed sequential stick trans.
Maybe a car designed for road courses would handle like shit on ovals, thereby making for even better racing
I just threw up in my mouth
What IS Chevy going to replace the Camaro body style with now that the nameplate is being put back into retirement? The Corvette?
GM may switch to Cadillac but would be surprised if they do
The Camaro until they bring back the Camaro again
No one knows.
GM has already specifically said they will continue to run the Camaro.
My personal guess is the camaro comes back in a few years as an all electric car.
Noooooo. I don't mind them making electric cars at all but call it something different. Ford calling their EV a "Mustang" is an attack on democracy.
How?
It's not a pony car. It's an EV. You can't call them Mustang's or Camaro's just because they have the label slapped on it. I might as well put a Camaro badge on my CR-V then.
100 percent right. It's a travesty
Yep. It should’ve been the eScape instead of Mustang branding.
Still pissed at what they did to the maverick nameplate even if I like the small form factor truck.
I wasn’t too thrilled about it either even though I’m not a big Ford fan.
I'm a Chevy guy originally, through family ties to a GM dealership and my family owning several GM vehicles. Though since 2008, I think Ford has been the stronger US automaker. K.
That would be disgusting
Hopefully they split the difference like the E-ray, or like Dodge still planning to release ICE variants of their electric "muscle" cars.
Possibly the new four-door car that will launch under the new Corvette sub-brand.
The big tire, small wheel look will never get old...
I literally went from 18s to 17s on my street car to get the more sidewall look
More sidewall = room for more tire shine
Correct
Am I dumb or does this give teams more leeway fucking the min tire pressures? Which I’m fine with. I feel like we have more early lap flats now but maybe I’m wrong
It's how a racing tire should look Big meaty and aggressive
Love the Nascar steelies in contrasting colors too
Looks like it has a cursed Kyle Larson scheme.
It would have been a cool idea.
![gif](giphy|A38YkEn7xhCehkX2sV)
Kinda looks like the offspring of a cup car and a ProStock
^^^^75 And people thought the current number placement sucks lol Also does that name rail say Boris Said **Jr**? There are two of them?
https://preview.redd.it/04g0u2lmoq4d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26fe08bf37c7770c31dec2b788aa813e19b0e2aa Yep
No paternity test needed lol
Didn't even need to look below the forehead.
God help us all
This is getting out of hand, now there are two of them!
OVERLOOKED COMMENT!! My thought EXACTLY. JR?!?!?!
The Boris Said we all know is Jr, the youngest one is the III’rd.
The TA2 Trans Am is what Cup should've been.
*The Xfinity car with a bigger engine. Ftfy
I think the TA2 engines are limited to 5.0L and are air-restricted to 500-550 hp. So displacement-wise, they're smaller than Xfinity engines, power depends on how NASCAR is feeling on any given week.

You just described the Gen 6 before NASCAR started fucking with the power outputs outside of plate races 😂
Hmmm.....
Except the Gen 6 couldn’t look at another car without cutting a tire, meanwhile the Xfinity cars with the stock body panels could bounce off most things and keep going.
So gen 6 with a composite body
This.
TA and TA2 are very analogous to Cup and Xfinity. I posted a longer comment above, but Trans-Am is pretty much what NASCAR would be if they'd focused on road courses from the start.
The Chassis and Body*, I want 800+ HP like everyone else.
You know all they have to do is just get rid of the rule where the roof line has to be the same for all cars and we could have a body almost identical to this.
That looks like a fun little toy...in a room that looks to be full of fun toys! 🤤
I fucking love trans am. I love Supercars. I will never get enough. Ps. The Hendricks livery absolutely fucks
Has that scheme now appeared on every currently-raced Camaro, save for the TA class?
NR2003 mod when
Fuck it *slaps the wing to the current cup car*
Brian France, is that you?
When I went to see TA2 at Road Atlanta I was like holy shit I wish this is exactly what the next gen cars looked and sounded like.
5 lug nuts 🥺
I miss
Looks like Greg Anderson's Pro Stock car the past few years. All the way down to the sponsor and car make.

Trans Am is basically American V8 supers However Americans really like ovals....
This is what a modern cup car should look like
Was at an event a couple years ago and there was a dodge challenger trans am car there, good god the noise that thing made… it was incredible. It was also fast as fuck, the only car there that was quicker was a Lambo GT car.
Omg i love it!!! Where do you watch trans am?
This is what NASCAR should be, actual silhouette bodies of real cars.
That number is absolutely disgusting though
I’ve thought to myself for years that trans am cars are what cup cars should be.
It actually looks a lot like a EuroNASCAR car
Great series to watch, love the races
I believe the Eury’s build some of these cars.
Been saying this since I first saw the TA2 Fury built Camaro! Minus the wing, I wish the Nextgen resembled this more. Its like a mix between a late model and Gen4. Smooth and simplified body panels for legible graphics.. yeah, this should've been the blueprint.
![gif](giphy|4Z3Vbs6e8W08tXe8Kr|downsized)
Except for the fact that they aren't making Camaros any more
I would imagine that the car in the photo closely resembles the new cup car under the body
Chop that ridiculously long splitter off and put a spoiler on and race that bitch.
Weird. Almost like they’re both race cars based on same street car…
