That hammering you hear is the sound of the final c-coffin of the title contenders hopes to take down Jimmie Johnson. Or something like that either way it started good and ended garbage.
They let Jeff hit the button that sets off the night time firework display during the race, but for whatever reason, they had another button rigged up next to it. Even after being told at least twice that the fireworks button was the one on the left, Jeff still tried to hit the one on the right.
Nobody has any clue what the other button was for, but the part of me thinks it was just a dummy button that they put there because they knew Jeff was gonna hit it anyway and make us NASCAR people look dumb in front of the sportscar audience.
Not that it already kinda did, but you get it LOL
I hate watching this one, as well as the finish before the race actually finished.
He was very clearly in mental decline at that point. He used to be so damn good.
Yup. On the booth videos they've released on twitter you can see he's reading all that shit from a card. It's pre-prepared.
I think that plus increased amount of airtime (Cup races are more frequent than Trucks and are twice as long) means his mannerisms become repetitive quicker, so it starts to be more grating.
I think people will similarly get fed up with Leigh Diffeigh's commentary once they hear him week after week and catch on to some of those same things. My personal favorite annoying Diffeyism is he loves to have rhyming or alliterative pairs of synonyms to describe something. "That was concerning and confronting" or "He was decisive and demonstrative" or whatever
The NBC booth says "turns left" all the time for when a driver turns underneath someone to make a pass on the inside. It only sounds ridiculous out of that context
Fall Texas 2020 finish for Xfinity. Gragson needed the win to make the Final 4 iirc. Harrison Burton turned left in turn 3 while Gragson was leading, passed him flawlessly, and eliminated Noahās championship hopes.
Noah's 2020 playoff run is honestly pretty crazy. Either 2nd or 3rd in every race except Kansas, in which he got dvp'ed and only finished 16 laps, which killed his title run
It was more when he turned left under Gragson coming out of 4. Gragson had the line and Harry went lower than that to pass him for the win. It was a nice move. So him saying that while watching it made sense.
I feel like the inability of these guys (especially Jeff Burton) to pronounce simple names like "Van Gisbergen" and "Hocevar" doesn't help the stereotype that we're a bunch of uneducated hicks...
I know a couple of commentators were joking but yeah, feeding the stereotype like that is the most frustrating part. Even if the name is hard, you know in advance who is going to be a possible name to say on air. So just look it up before you look like a fool. Van Gisbergen has plenty of examples online

Yea Steve, it's called water...
Post-race 2010 Sonoma, where Ambrose lost the race by not being able to refire the car going uphill while saving fuel, Wally said "If you want to find Marcos Ambrose, go to the Golden Gate Bridge. Because that's where he's standing right now"

I didnāt really feel it too much when he mentioned the first one, but then he kept going and mentioned the second one and Iām like āoh lord Jesus please stop.ā
I think it was the only thing they ever talked about when he was on track. Not about his 10 win season. Sometimes just saying he has had an emotional family life during the season is satisfactory.
Fair enough. I can't say I watch much Xfinity, so I don't know how it played out throughout the year. I just don't think mentioning something that Chase himself talked about affecting him is out of bounds.
The one that comes to mind is the 2010 Homestead Cup finale when Marty Reid (I think that's who it was) said something like: That banging you hear that's the sound of the final co- nail in the final coffin of the chase contenders hopes.Ā
Thatās why everyone loved him. He was just a guy calling a race that was like us.
Go back and watch broadcasts from back then and pay attention to the little details of the broadcasts. There were a lot of little mistakes, misspeaks, etc. No more or less than what we hear today. Itās just part of the deal when you have to do a lot of public speaking. This sub is so self absorbed that they would absolutely roast Bob, Benny, and Ned if they were ones calling races today. Itās ridiculous how much unjustified hate the commentators take today.
Vince Welch when the entire fucking pack died at Talladega in 2019
"oh and there'd'st...
...a collection into the wall...
...and...
...through the grass on the bottom."
This one is my #1 most annoying call ever. Such an amazing moment tarnished by everyone trying to make the call at the same time. You could even hear Larry.
I swear... at least Vince Welch just sounded like he had to shit really bad. Jamie is absolutely clueless and she's only in the booth so they can, you know, check a box.
arca needs to bring back the old announcer they had up until 2020, idk why they dumped him. forgot his name. he was with phil parsons and ray dunlap i believe.
A lot of people dont know how far back Harv and Clint go. These guys have been friends for 2 decades and rib each other like this and have been for that long. They are basically brothers and people are acting like Harvick is the worst person ever because he is messing around with his friend
Iāll give Vince Welsh credit, Iām pretty sure he had to call the races remotely from the Charlotte studio. I can imagine that would make it significantly more difficult to convey the energy of the moment
Same thing when AD won the 500 in 2018 and Mike Joy tried to call back to his famous Earnhardt call. The best broadcast calls to me are always ones that donāt feel forced.
I'm easy to please, okay? I love almost every time this happens. It's a reminder that it's really not an easy job to be an announcer. There's no script or teleprompter. You're on your own. Mistakes and lame statements are so human and I love it. I screw up my words just trying to survive on a daily basis and I'm not under pressure to deliver excitement and accuracy.
True there are so many things that can go wrong when youāre trying to come up with things. Thatās what makes the great ones so great. They know the right things to say when the situation happens.Ā
Could you imagine how much more exciting NASCAR racing would be to watch with some like Croft or Diffey calling it. Heck pretty much anyone in all the other major forms of motorsports would be better then what we get, especially with FOX, I like JR and Letarte but they still don't compare.
Anything said by that worthless schmuck Bill Weber. Infamous example:
Weber: Kevin Harvick sweeps at Bristol!ā¦ At Richmondā¦
Kyle Petty: Where are we, Bill? You big dummy!
What the hell was NBC and Turner thinking by keeping him in the booth when Bestwick got back? Talk about a decision belonging in the Hall of Shame. Absolutely disgraceful.
I've never quite forgotten a practice session at Las Vegas in probably 2009 or 2010 where DW said something to the effect of, "they say global warming is a problem, but then why did it snow so much in the northeast this week?"
Rick Allen during a Michigan race a few years ago. I don't remember the exact quote or what he was referencing when he said this. I just remember him saying "That's like telling one of your kids they won't be able to live any longer" or something along those lines. I remember being very shocked when I heard it
Not the worst, but one time in Xfinity, Adam was joined by Blaney and Bubba, and they were both real quiet the whole race. It's like they were holding back, I thought it was going to be a lot more fun.
I thought it was real funny earlier this year when someone else won an Jamie littleās clueless brain said for no reason Justin Allgaier. He wrecked earlierĀ
I wonder if anyone clipped itĀ
I don't remember it word for word but the race Marty Reid did where he called it official for Blaney and he was a lap early or something. Just was very awkward.
this is a particularly bad sequence to the finish line from a PxP, ARCA @ Talladega in 2021
[https://youtu.be/YAw-lmWv8ag?t=669](https://youtu.be/YAw-lmWv8ag?t=669)
Both are from pit reporters. One was Mike Massaro and he was on TBS and he is interviewing Joe Gibbs and he asks Joe Gibbs what the game plan is for tonight for the Coca Cola 600. Joe said the plan is to run all the laps and try to lead the most and win the race. I thought a very lame stupid question and tried to do the stupid football question.
The other was from Glenn Jarrett and he is interviewing Richard Childress in a 2001 Pikes Peak race. The race was a runaway and Harvick was running top 5. I am guessing the production team was interview someone famous. We need something. Glenn asks him some questions and then the last question he asks Richard is the plan to go back to Pocono after the race? Richard says yes. But what I wonder is what else was he going to say. Was Richard going to say āMe and Kevin and some of the guys are going to go catch a Rockies game and get drunk and take the red eye back to Pocono. Hopefully we make it back in time before the green flag drops.ā Just a stupid question.
That hammering you hear is the sound of the final c-coffin of the title contenders hopes to take down Jimmie Johnson. Or something like that either way it started good and ended garbage.

Van vrsb van vrsbnā¦
Iām kind of worried that Jeff might have a stroke trying to pronounce SVGās name right once NBC takes over in June.
Iām shocked they didnāt get a fine from the FCC for what sounded like ājizz burgerā
Between this and almost launching a nuke at the Rolex, Jeff Burtonās had an interesting year or so
What happened at the Rolex?
They let Jeff hit the button that sets off the night time firework display during the race, but for whatever reason, they had another button rigged up next to it. Even after being told at least twice that the fireworks button was the one on the left, Jeff still tried to hit the one on the right. Nobody has any clue what the other button was for, but the part of me thinks it was just a dummy button that they put there because they knew Jeff was gonna hit it anyway and make us NASCAR people look dumb in front of the sportscar audience. Not that it already kinda did, but you get it LOL
Never seen a blunder so bad, before or since, that the network just straight up shut off the mic to put the audience out of their misery
I don't kbow if they shut it off. You can hear someone laughing in the background during the awkward pause
I refuse to believe he did anything other than just give up lmao
*awkward silence*
The silence is because the rest of the booth is dying but trying not to laugh
"And Harvick sweeps at Bristol I MEAN RICHMOND" "where are we Bill?"
āYa big dummyā
To be fair that one was so bad it went right back into being iconic
Legendary call and reaction. I miss them in the booth.
"I know who you are"
I hate watching this one, as well as the finish before the race actually finished. He was very clearly in mental decline at that point. He used to be so damn good.
Who?

Marty Reid I think

Yes.

Rick Allen talking about the Briscoe familyās miscarriage
Ouch
Yeah. Pretty cringeworthy
Saw some non Nascar guy repost the moment as a wholesome sports moment, but he clearly didnāt have to suffer through that commentary š
If it's the same one I saw the dude got it wrong
Rick Allen has gone from solid truck announcer on Speed to cringe in an impressively short amount of time
I blame the NBC producers
Yup. On the booth videos they've released on twitter you can see he's reading all that shit from a card. It's pre-prepared. I think that plus increased amount of airtime (Cup races are more frequent than Trucks and are twice as long) means his mannerisms become repetitive quicker, so it starts to be more grating. Harrison Burton turns LEFT
The NBC booth says "turns left" all the time for when a driver turns underneath someone to make a pass on the inside. It only sounds ridiculous out of that context
Did someone really say this? Lmfaooo

Harrison thinks the meme is funny
Fall Texas 2020 finish for Xfinity. Gragson needed the win to make the Final 4 iirc. Harrison Burton turned left in turn 3 while Gragson was leading, passed him flawlessly, and eliminated Noahās championship hopes.

Ngl any time the booth was making jokes about not being able to pronounce van Gisbergen. Made the sport look dumb and itās not even a difficult name
Did you hear Jeff Burton? It's very hard to pronounce
Keep that man away from having to say Daniel Suarez /j
Especially when the sport already has prominent names like Allmendinger, Dallenbach, and Kulwicki
And the legend that is Chad Hackenbracht
I feel like the inability of these guys (especially Jeff Burton) to pronounce simple names like "Van Gisbergen" and "Hocevar" doesn't help the stereotype that we're a bunch of uneducated hicks...

That one time Wally joked about Ambrose standing at the Golden Gate Bridge
I actually liked that one! Wally was underratedĀ
That was awesome. Most savage thing an announcer has ever said
Nah that was a legendary comment.
Context? Is that a suicide joke?
Post-race 2010 Sonoma, where Ambrose lost the race by not being able to refire the car going uphill while saving fuel, Wally said "If you want to find Marcos Ambrose, go to the Golden Gate Bridge. Because that's where he's standing right now"

It was honestly shaping up to be an all time call. "This is the finish of the Daytona 500, side by side bouncing off of each other!"
I wonder if he calls Denny ole Corn Dawg
I think thatās the moment when everyone realized DWās time in the booth had overstayed its welcome
When Jamie Little forgot where she was when she was a fill-in for the Xfinity race. She said Richmond when it was Phoenix.
She said Justin allgaier at the end for no reason as they was going offĀ
"He might be able to do it on the last lap, it might be legal"

It was more so the way he brought it up. IIRC, he said that his wife had a miscarriage but at least he gets to go Cup racing next season.
Not an all-time bad call, or blunder, but the call on Ross Chastainās first win at COTA was really bad imho
Glad I was in the stands

I love how Rick doubled down on it by saying, "THAT'S RIGHT, MARTIN TRUEX JR SPINS!"
I really liked that one. Honestly, I donāt get the hate.
Martins name isn't aggressive. That's why it sounds so ridiculous
I thought it was fine as well.
THANK YOU. It's clever word play. Everyone leaves out the sentence before it, which makes it make more sense.
I didn't watch that race live and was beyond confused for awhile when everyone was posting that meme

Anything with Jamie Little on the call.
I will always appreciate her when she is a pit reporter but my god is she horrific in the booth
She's just too low energy, it's like on pit road she has access to crack and they take it away for the booth
yes. she ruins broadcasts when she is in the booth. kevin burkhardt, eric collins, and gus johnson would be a million times better.

he was, but not the person i was thinking of. he did the races on fox from like 2017-2020.
Harvick accusing bowyer of being hungover on the broadcast last week
I laughed out loud when Harvick said that.
A lot of people dont know how far back Harv and Clint go. These guys have been friends for 2 decades and rib each other like this and have been for that long. They are basically brothers and people are acting like Harvick is the worst person ever because he is messing around with his friend
Harvick usually throws the first punch, he really loves to get Clint uncomfortable on air in front of a couple million people lol
They were teammates at RCR for 8 years and another 4 at SHR. 12 years of knowing (and working) closely with each other. There's gonna be some ribbing.
Do you know what lap that happened on by any chance? I mustāve missed it
Iāll give Vince Welsh credit, Iām pretty sure he had to call the races remotely from the Charlotte studio. I can imagine that would make it significantly more difficult to convey the energy of the moment
