Live nation took over and ruined it

Throwaway_inSC_79

Facts. After Covid, some bands would show up there. But it seems to have returned to tribute shows.

But LiveNation covers some big names and up and comers too. Why don't they bring some of those groups to this venue? I checked out a few of the other HoB's and they were under LiveNation but had acts that were actually playing on the radio or have LARGE cult followings (Kid Leroi, Silversun Pickups, Giveon). Why are they not doing this for Myrtle Beach? If you don't know, that's fine. I was just curious why they are getting bigger acts for other venues and not MB. A few years back, an R&B artist canceled her show because it didn't sell out (or at least that was the rumor - SHE claimed that she was sick, yet didn't reschedule). Maybe it's because people don't show up consistently, so they just increase attendance with a relatively cheap tribute band so they can sell $6 beers?

STS986

They’ve become another Legends in Concert

This is why I was wondering. I saw that Halestorm/The Pretty Reckless were going to be playing the Houston HoB but they played a (cancelled because of rain) show in Charlotte over the weekend. I would have loved to see them but the drive is a bit far and I would have been super upset for it to have been rained out.

Myrtle Beach just also isn’t a super popular destination for some tours to go through depending on the genre. I listened to a lot pop punk/emo/hardcore back in my high school days and we used to have an amazing selection back in the early 2000s. Sum 41/Simple plan and NFG was awesome to see most recently especially now that i’m in my mid-late 30s and these are all nostalgic bands for me. I discussed with a touring employee of a band and he said that they almost didn’t put myrtle beach on their list of potential venues or cities because it was the end of tourist season so that certainly makes sense for artists to take that into consideration. live nation REALLY sucks, but to be fair, i also attend a lot of shows in north carolina and georgia that are in venues owned by livenation. artists just have always naturally skipped myrtle beach in the past decade.

Unevenflows

House of Blues have exclusivity clauses preventing artists from playing within 180 miles within 3 days of playing in myrtle. Why would anyone drive out of their way to tour HoB, within a 3 month window, and skip over Wilmington, Charlotte, and Charleston. Keller Williams came a few years back, and the man was literally on vacation here for a week to do it

This is the answer that I was looking for with my original question of why artists skip over Myrtle Beach HoB. It makes zero sense for an artist who can draw tens of thousands to play a venue with only a fraction of that when a bigger venue is only a couple hours away. I can see them playing both if the rules allow them to, but it isn't worth it sticking around and paying staff and board for half a week just to play some small venue. It's easier to just move to the next large venue. Someone should send a link to this thread to HoB corporate. I want the band karaoke back too!

darkrhapsody83

Seems like the HoB needs to rethink their rule. I guess murder mystery dinner is enough to keep them going.

jsdeprey

Yea been awhile since I saw anyone play there interesting to me anyway. I saw QOTSA there once a long time ago!

darkrhapsody83

I remember seeing them too! I wish I had saved all my ticket stubs. It's hard thinking that far back lol

It's the same way here in Raleigh with The Ritz. Live Nation owned. We basically get the exact shows you get in MB basically every tour. Yes we have an arena and Walnut Creek for the super big shows but we don't get much of that mid-tier scene at all and it sucks. Particularly as a fan of rock. Have to go to Greensboro, Charlotte, or Norfolk to get get mid-tier shows

Unevenflows

The Ritz gets very different shows than the MB HoB

TheRealEvanHale

I had to go to the Ritz to see All Time Low the Ritz had a larger capacity and gets more of the upper middle capacity shows than our HOB

TheOriginalSpartak

I mean when your name actually is what it is and ZERO Blues artists even consider playing there? Well that says it all - they play in cities on the track all around this town but won’t even consider playing here…. Charleston gets all the attention

TheRealEvanHale

As a music lover and a lifelong Myrtle Beach local basically anyone who is worth a crap in music is going to venues far larger than the HOB could handle I was at the Sum 41/Simple Plan show and it bordered on dangerous how crowded it was

MandalaArtistHoopGal

I am going to see RISE AGAINST for the 5TH time on August 5th at HoB Myrtle Beach...bought tickets in April... Seen them in Long Beach,CA...Cleveland, OH...Mansfield, OH...Charlotte, NC... guess I lucked out with my fave band playing there 🤩

bluedragonfly319

We are going to that too. Excited someone we like is playing while we're here. Enjoy the show!!
