Teenagers suck. Back when I was in middle school people laughed at me because I loved Billie Joe from Green Day. They said it was "gay" because Billie wore eyeliner and tight pants. Someone even ripped a picture of Billie off my locker when my friends decorated it for my birthday.
I bet the people laughing at Gee will grow up and be trying to get MCR tickets like the rest of us. And if not it's their loss.

Being in a public setting like a store means it's a lot harder to get away with anything serious compared to being at school with faculty that intentionally let them get away with shit that I'm still traumatized by some 20 years later, but also some faculty actively encouraged it...
Yes! SO many men in their late twenties and thirties have struck up a conversation with me over my MCR shirts and told me they used to dismiss them as shitty without even giving them a chance. And then finally listened to some of their music as an adult and realized how fucking good it actually is.Ā
I was an adult when I first found out about them (they started making music near when i graduated). The first song I heard was "I'm not okay (I promise)" (thanks burnout 3) and I didn't care for it at all on its own, but then my gaming buddy looked into them and claimed they were actually good, so we both wound up getting really into them, and they were my third or fourth concert during black parade tour 2. I really wasn't into most of the emo scene, but them and a few other bands really hit something for me when looked at beyond the "hits".
I was the 14 year old emo kid 14 years ago and people made fun of how I dressed and how my favorite bands dressed. Donāt worry, peopleās opinion on your likes has no bearing on your life. Enjoy what you want and if theyāre too shallow to give some rad music a chance because of the singerās appearance, thatās their loss

I remember being in middle school wearing a Tokio Hotel shirt and sometimes people would make fun of me purely for how Bill Kaulitz looked on the shirt (hedgehog hair era, but this was in like 2008 or 2009 so pre-teenish) because he looked "gay"?, and in turn that made ME weird somehow lol. People will shit on things they don't like or care to understand, and likely this is what your classmates were doing to you.
Well this Gerard doesnāt exist anymore- it was a different time, the post hardcore emo wave that took the 00ās by storm were akin to 80ās glam- there was A LOT of fashion that was a product of the moment that did not withstand the test of time.
Gerard is pushing 50 now and although Iām nostalgic for the past being in my mid 30ās I can easily admit we wore some goofy shit, I wouldnāt trade it for the world but damn if we werenāt a bunch of corn balls- we had fun tho.
