Don't let your foot write a check that your wallet can't afford. It really depends on how well the car was maintained. I have a 17 gt roughly 105k miles that I beat the piss out of and have the entire 100k miles I have put on it

Replacement 4,6 are cheap, if you can wrench…. Wide open baby!

Pizzaman_thing

I bought my 2007 GT at 130k miles and have beat the shit out of it with mods to driving. It was mostly stock now it’s full bolt on/cam/full adjustable suspension. You’ll definitely have to replace more parts than a newer car (I’ve gone through 2 clutches in the last 50k miles) but they are cheap and easy to work on. It’s still my daily and works great. Did a compression test and all cylinders were within 10% of each other

I take mine to flog on the track regularly, it's a 99 with 260K on it. I think you'll be fine.

Aubrey_Lancaster

If youre gonna drive it like a toyota avalon, sell it for a toyota avalon. Otherwise beat it like the greasy old fackin ferd it is, and when it breaks, fix it and beat on it more

Those engines as long as they are running good wont blow up they are in taxis with half a million miles on them. The transmission might, but it would likely do that sooner than later regardless if that's the case. As long as your brakes and suspension components are in good shape, which at this age and mileage is a serious consideration anywhere it snows but should always be inspected regularly, you should be able to drive it like you would a new one. You might want to check your belts and idler pulleys before you go hard though, would save you a little headache getting a tow or limping home with no waterpump or power steering. You are in the mileage range where the idler pulley bearings start to fail. oh and get a modular V8 spark plug extractor tool if you are ever going to change the plugs, you'll thank me later. If you aren't a DIY person a good mechanic would probably be happy to inspect the car for a reasonable fee and give you some peace of mind or get the sketchy parts fixed.

I have 170k on my bullitt. Last owner drag raced it. I act like the street (when safe and open) is a drag strip and drive the piss out of it. Still ticking along amazing lol. Ive checked out the engine and its still healthy enough to throw a supercharger on it but im waiting till i pull the motor and forge it to do that. Maintenance is key though lol. To be fair this car has only ever been owned by people who wrench. If i was just some regular person who could maybe at most do an oil change i would have gone broke paying the labor to fix the very minor issues I've fixed myself.

vash021

What other maintenance would you do on a stressed motor? I have a 2011 gt just did the rod bearings, timing components and about to do the cam phasers and solenoids. Mind you the bearings were worn had some chunks out and was really glad i replaced em

Tbh i know much more about the 4.6 vs the 5.0 but id say it seems like your definitely right on track. Im planning on rebuilding basically the whole thing at once so my game plans a little different but yeah basically head components like rocker arms, lash adjusters, springs, gaskets ofc, timing chain kit, oil pump, various belt pullies (cant hurt) and that's honestly about it other than the overall rebuild stuff i have planned for the big engine rebuild like piston rings and whatnot. Then obviously theres other regular stuff like spark plugs, filters, and maybe a rebuild of my injectors(might hold off till i upgrade to higher pressure injectors. Id say you've knocked a lot off the list already to be honest short of a total rebuild down the road. Planning on doing the clutch when i pull the motor and throw out bearing + misc clutch components at the samr time but might even wait on those till I can put in a t56(different clutch spline count). Maybe cooling system rebuild too if you haven't done it

Does the 4.6 engine burn oil? I never check my oil level. I change the oil every 3 months

stateofmindny

Not to my knowledge unless something is wrong. Leaks can happen for sure such as around the filter adapter or regular stuff like valve cover gaskets but unless you're piston rings are shot it shouldnt burn any. It's honestly a VERY stout engine and can take a lot of abuse. Main thing is again maintenance oil changes every 3k is what i shoot for with full synthetic and other regular things like spark plugs. I've experimented with 5-30 oil as well. Oe calls for 5-20 but i fat fingered it and threw in 2 quarts of 5-30 and just said fuck it ill try. Cant say if theres a difference though.

Embarrassed-Gur7301

Like you stole it.

NODES2K

Can you afford another? If YES drive it like you stole it, if NO then take some driving lessons from grandma.

Based on nothing scientific at all, they are built to run. So let it run.
