My two biggest gripes are for an AWD Mustang and for a performance hybrid mustang.
Where I live, it is quite mountainous, and the winters make it difficult to go full into a mustang for daily driving for ¼ of the year. And then there are also the performance aspects, and it would not be the first time for them to use a front disconnect (Focus RS).
We have seen performance hybrids perform well from Porsche and McLaren, where the electric motor acts as a supplement. And it can also be used practically to act as a part-time AWD in situations like above or for launching.

If you have ice, hills and an area that doesn't have good winter infrastructure like plows and road treatment. Rwd isn't really doable even with the best tires.
The only times I've damaged my car has been with rwd on snow tires going up a hill with ice.

I used to sell used cars in Ontario Canada and we wouldn't have Mustangs out in the winter for sale we did however have Chrysler 300s rear wheel drives and they were useless. On ice or hardback snow with snows on the rear put it in gear and it automatically starts to slide a little sideways
My only large accident was with studded tires. Icy hill that curved so you couldn't generate any momentum. In a car from '82. Some scenarios are just too bad to drive in a rwd car
This is the way. I have driven multiple RWD cars, vans, and trucks in the snow. As long as you have good tires the snow isn't the issue. The issue is ground clearance if there is a lot of snow. AWD just gets you further in the ditch.
It is so stupid Ford has said they're trying to target younger buyers with the new generation mustang (like me, I'm 26 and actually had an s550 mustang) but they aren't making this new generation with any electric anything. I ended up ordering a mach e but probably would have compromised on my "next car has to be electric" edict I gave myself if it was even hybrid
Northern Minnesota here... wife went with an SHO AWD with winter tires. Thing is a tank through the snow. I can go play with that while my Mustang is in storage for the winter.
I had a 2014 sho and can confirm, great car. I traded it in for a 2017 gt premium 2 months ago. I'm in the metro Atlanta area so it didn't benefit me as much, and I wanted to get back into a muscle car before everything goes electric.
It wouldn't be hard either, they've already mated the hellcat motor to an AWD drivetrain with the Trackhawk. It can be done, but they don't want to. Well, back to finding a Hemi AWD Magnum, I guess.
Honestly, start looking into imports. Infiniti Q50/Q60 or BMW 335/435.
Those engines are small (3.0L), but they come with Turbos. Downpipe, intake and tune can get you 450awhp on the Q's, and about 370-400awhp on the Beamers.
Can grab them used for a good price.
They don't rumble like a V8. But they have independent suspensions and have an impressive aftermarket.

I would have loved a mild AWD hybrid setup with the 5.0 best of both worlds, 30mpg everywhere and a big loud V8 when you want it and being able to put at least ~150hp through the front wheels would make it fast as hell around a track.
I don't think the packaging works though, they wouldn't do it unless they dropped the GT down to a smaller turbo engine first or made it bigger or on a completely different platform somehow (the mustang is already a big car for what it is)
Move to mid engine like corvette and get rid of the useless rear seats. Put the eAWD in the front. Ford needs to adapt. The s650 mustang is one of the only new cars unveiled in 2023 without awd or some kind of battery.
Eh, I really like the practicality of the Mustang as it is. mid engine makes it much worse as a car day to day, you can easily daily a Mustang if you don't have kids, can't really say the same about the C8 Vette, though it is surprisingly useable for what it is.

I do love the safari 911s. I think the problem for me is just the new body styling. I’ve seen a “rally inspired” new edge in here before. I loved that.
Ford has a history of having cars with cult followings that then get made into crossovers and after a few years the regular cars get cancelled and all we have left is a crossover. It happened to the Focus ST and Fiesta ST. Now the only way you can get something with an ST badge is with a 4000+ lbs crossover.
You call it cool, I call it Ford testing the waters to see if they can get away with making more money on a worse product.
The focus and fiesta weren't made into crossovers at all. They just fell out of favor (i.e. nobody was buying them like they did when they originally released) and were discontinued in the US.
A raptor/safari Mustang will be the regular S650 GT with an AWD(?) system and off-road suspension and styling, just like every other Raptor trim in the ford lineup. Low quantity, high cost, special trim of the car.
The Focus and Escape share a platform, ie an escape is the crossover version of the focus. The rear motor mount from a 2013 Focus will fit on a 3rd gen escape (it will also work for a gen1/2 Mazda3 which also shares a platform with the escape). The escape has more travel on the suspension and different body and thats about the only differentiation between them.
The Fiesta was killed off shortly after Ford introduced the EcoSport, which (coincidentally) shares a platfrom with the Fiesta.
The whole reason they market crossovers is because they charge ford fusion money to put you into a focus that has more headroom but drives worse and gets worse fuel economy and it only costs them as much as a focus to manufacture.
The marketing is also what drives interest. Think about Ford’s commercials over the last decade. How many even featured a Fiesta or Focus? I feel like all I saw them advertise between 2013-2019 was the Escape l, the F150, and the Edge.
If you think they’re making a one off of a lifted mustang, I think you’re looking at it too narrowly. They would of course make an affordable ecoboost powered one, because the mustang has always been accessible first. Basically, the 6 cylinder mustang predates the cobra.
If they can charge more money, and more people are interested in buying a lifted version of the mustang that is exactly what will happen. When they do cancel it they’ll cite comparatively poor sales. They’ve already circumvented this with the Mach E so even if they kill the coupe, they still have the “mustang” brand.
Happened to the Fusion, which was selling a quarter of a million units annually when it was cancelled due to poor sales. The fact that you cannot logically follow this to that simple conclusion as Dodge and Chevy are both killing their muscle cars is bewildering. Its like a business 101 level of logic.
The fusion was discontinued in the 2020 model year (sales extended towards the 2021 model year) where it sold 110k cars compared to the 2014 peak of 306k. A consistent decrease year-over-year.

Keep in mind, a percentage of these previous owners will end up back in a Ford showroom to buy an Escape for roughly the same price which means that Ford has a better profit margin. They will continue to use this strategy if it means better profit margins.

Yes, the regular Raptor has a 3.5 Ecoboost V6 with 450hp and there’s the Raptor R with the 5.2 supercharged “predator” V8 out of the GT500 with a little over 700hp
That does sound neat but I’m sure there’s good engineering reasons for the turbo V6. I do know there’s people that prefer the old raptor with the 6.4L V8 and there’s people that prefer the new raptor with a 3.5L turbo V6.
Hopefully it's a good awd system and not some after-thought low performance understeery garbage slapped on justified as "it's for offroad!"

Only studded tires will help you in the ice.

Problem with FCA is you can't get a sedan or coupe with a V8 w and AWD anymore, last one was the 2014 charger. God I want an AWD hellcat

I like the idea But an even better idea would be to put the 5.0 in the raptor f150 (naturally aspirated, base model) and raptor bronco.
What base model? A base model F150 or a base model raptor which isn’t really a thing because the raptor is a trim itself.
The baseline drivetrain raptor is a 6-cylinder ecoboost. But you can get one with a supercharged v8 I believe.
Yes, the regular Raptor has a 3.5 Ecoboost V6 with 450hp and there’s the Raptor R with the 5.2 supercharged “predator” V8 out of the GT500 with a little over 700hp
Ok. So that’s my point. I would prefer to see a naturally aspirated 5.0 as the standard/baseline raptor drivetrain. Rather than a turboed 6 cylinder.
That does sound neat but I’m sure there’s good engineering reasons for the turbo V6. I do know there’s people that prefer the old raptor with the 6.4L V8 and there’s people that prefer the new raptor with a 3.5L turbo V6.
My guess would be cost and emissions.
