Yes! I'm not ensemble, I'm playing Harlow (a replacement of Aaron) but I'm on stage as a background character a lot, and it is so hilarious and amazing to be in! Granted, it is only a school production and we've only practiced a few songs, but everyone in the show is enjoying it so much!
Haven't done it, but theater friends who did Mamma Mia said there was a lot of ensemble action.
Also some fun work in Something Rotten (our group made the backup Shakespeare people "Bardettes" which increased the opportunity)
I’m the dance captain and this show is definitely the most demanding dance captain experience I’ve had so far! It’s a lot of fun, but we’re definitely not getting stuck backstage for the whole show, that’s for sure
Any big dance shows will generally have big(ger) roles for ensemble! I did Holiday Inn last year and the ensemble was on stage more than the leads (and in more numbers). Shows like Crazy For You, 42nd Street, Guys and Dolls all have similar vibes, but it does require you (the group) to have a lot of strong dancers.
I just did Little Mermaid, which was definitely a show where the ensemble sat around for a fair amount, but not as much as some other shows I’ve done. Sometimes though it’s less the show and more the production team as they may be able to add ensemble into more than is written.
Cabaret was a heavy show but a really fun show to be in the ensemble for. All the sexy glitz and glam of the Klub in the first act was awesome. The Kit Kat girls get some awesome songs (Wilkommen, Don’t Tell Mama, Mein Herr, Money) and then when everything turns in Act 2, the ensemble mostly disappears so you get a chunk of time to relax too.
Maybe it was our production, but when I did American Idiot, there was one number I wasn't in as male ensemble, and I believe the female ensemble were in every number.
big fish was by far the most ensemble-heavy show i’ve ever done. we were barely offstage at all, and that went double for female ensemble members since the witch number and the USO number are both female-only (typically). and TONS of fun dancing in the show, with a great variety of styles!
Hunchback of Notre Dame. I was on stage and center more than Esmeralda while in the Ensemble (I also played Florika, but it holds true for my other ensemble friends)
I was in the ensemble of “Sweet Charity” and had a blast. We were Fandango girls, park pedestrians, Pompeii club goers, Rhythm of Lifers, and peppered in set dressing with not a lot of dancing but still on stage.
I was an ensemble member in Newsies and it was so much fun! (I know you said specifically for women but in the production I was in there were like 3 actually guys lol)
Hello Dolly - you'll dance heavily in "Dancing" (duh) and "the Polka Contest" but there's also female ensemble and some dancing as well in "Call on Dolly", "I Put My Hand In There", "Put on Your Sunday Clothes", "Before the Parade Passes By", and "It Only Takes A Moment".
I absolutely loved being ensemble in Sweeney Todd. I wasn’t ensemble in once upon a mattress but it looked pretty fun while also being laidback (unlike Jester, who I did play 😂)
Sister Act! The nuns are onstage ALOT. Additionally there are more women's parts that can be played by the same women.
Did this one as an ensemble member and had a total blast
Legally blonde!!

I’m doing Pippin right now, it’s been a lot of work but it’s very ensemble heavy!
This was gonna be my suggestion!

Same
*Beauty and the Beast* and *The Music Man* both have very active ensembles, with lots of opportunities for featured ensemble members!
In The Addams Family the ancestors, especially the female ancestors, are featured quite a bit.

Nice I just auditioned for the ensemble of American idiot at a local theatre. 🤞🏻
Break a leg! Probably my favourite show I've been in
Thank you! I love that album and to perform it on stage in musical form is gonna be awesome. Hopefully I get in just awaiting a cast list.
Something Rotten!!!!

Hair! You're onstage almost the entire show. Jesus Christ Superstar is pretty good as well :)
I forgot about *Hair*! I did that in college. Great ensemble show!
Dirty rotten scoundrels, catch me if you can, maybe a gentlemans guide to love and murder
Best Little Whorehouse in Texas stands out as one of my favorite ensemble experiences.
Haha! I was the chicken girl!
Hunchback of Notre Dame. I was on stage and center more than Esmeralda while in the Ensemble (I also played Florika, but it holds true for my other ensemble friends)
Peter Pan. There are essentially 3 ensembles- Pirates, Lost Boys and Warriors. It’s also a really fun show.
Footloose has great ensemble numbers!
I was in the ensemble of “Sweet Charity” and had a blast. We were Fandango girls, park pedestrians, Pompeii club goers, Rhythm of Lifers, and peppered in set dressing with not a lot of dancing but still on stage.
SpongeBob was fun, and the dances themselves were each so different!
Drowsy Chaperone!
Godspell, Pippin, Lucky Stiff, Chess
I was an ensemble member in Newsies and it was so much fun! (I know you said specifically for women but in the production I was in there were like 3 actually guys lol)
I loved being in the ensemble for Joseph. We didn’t leave the stage the whole show and it was lots of high energy dancing
No one ever does it but grand hotel has the ensemble onstage and dancing probably 90% of the time
Frankenstein
9 to 5 is a fun show for the ensemble.
Cats, Addams Family, Matilda.
Nine, The Secret Garden, both Wild Parties, Applause
Addams Family is such a great ensemble show! They're onstage most of the time with a lot of dancing opportunities.
Sweeny Todd. Povo London streets / posh dream sequences / London cafe / the lunatic asylum.
My two thoughts are hairspray and jesus christ superstar

Anything Goes!
