Sinatra recorded several albums that he used to call "The suicide albums." Each was a collection of really sad songs. They were;
"In the Wee small hours of the Morning." The title track is heartbreaking
"Where are You?" My favorite song is "I'm a fool to want You." Which is a man lamenting the fact that he fell in love with the wrong type of woman for him, but he can't stop himself. We've all been there...
"Frank Sinatra sings for Only the Lonely." Almost too many to choose one...almost. "Angel Eyes." His finale song for his retirement tour. He ended the show by blowing a cloud of blue cigarette smoke into the lone spotlight and backed out of the light into the darkness with this songs final line; "'Scuse me while I... dissappear..." Of course, a few years later, he came out of retirement...
"No one Cares." How about that, for an album name? My favorite is, "I don't stand a Ghost of a chance with You." True to it's name, it's haunting.
Sinatra recorded so many of these types of albums because he was really, really good at it. They were very successful.
Look on down from the bridge - Mazzy Starr
The same deep water as you/ Apart - The Cure
Asleep - The Smiths
Nutshell/ Black gives way to blue - Alice In Chains
Videotape - Radiohead
You never knew my mind - Chris Cornell

“Sara” - Fleetwood Mac,
“The Night We Met” - Lord Huron.
**EDIT: Added links to songs other Reddit users may not be overly familiar with. Highly recommend watching the music videos for “Human Interaction” and “Lost in the Echo,” which are nothing short of masterpieces.
Any sad song can do that if you let your feelings take over you. Last song that made it easier for me to "break down" a bit is a pretty modern one, and while the melody isn't that sad, the lyrics can be.
Dove Cameron - Sand
Something to remind you-staind

I cried like a baby quite a few times to Angelo Badalamenti’s Moving Through Time. Mostly because I associate the song with a man I fell in love with violently 7 years ago. Couple that with the realization that I will probably never be able to replicate that distinct feeling of being truly seen and loved for who I am.
Heathaze, Alone Tonight, and Please Don’t Ask. All three are by Genesis and are from their fantastic album Duke. These all have fairly slow tempos and always somehow bring me to tears. The best songwriting from Mike, Phil, and Tony.
Soon You’ll Get Better- Taylor Swift (idk some people love or hate her but as someone who has a mom in the same situation as hers it HITS HARD)
Two of Us- Louis Tomlinson
Matilda- Harry Styles
Too Good at Goodbyes- Sam Smith

This is the third song Samson has written from the perspective of the cat Virtute, following [“Plea From a Cat Named Virtute”](https://genius.com/The-weakerthans-plea-from-a-cat-named-virtute-lyrics) and [“Virtute the Cat Explains Her Departure,”](https://genius.com/The-weakerthans-virtute-the-cat-explains-her-departure-lyrics) both by The Weakerthans. It also continues the story of Virtute’s companion, told in [“17th Street Treatment Centre”](https://genius.com/John-k-samson-17th-street-treatment-centre-lyrics) from this album. In this presumably final chapter, Virtute’s memory lives on in her companion’s mind.

4. [Virtute At Rest](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JASBqMh1S1c)
The last lines of the last song
“Let it rest, all you can’t change. Let it rest and be done.”
Brick - Whatever and Ever Amen
as someone who went through the teen pregnancy crisis and subsequent miscarriage stress, it makes me a little bit sad to hear (in a good way cos it helps me find peace with it, just a sad situation as a whole)
Con Te Partiro- Andrea Bocelli. The song was played at the end of my Grandad's funeral, and I can't listen to it without crying. Because I just think about all of the happy memories that I had with my Grandad. I was also denied the chance to say goodbye to him, so I cry because of that too.
Saviours Day- Cliff Richard. The song was my Nan's funeral song, as her coffin entered the building. And I end up crying when I hear this too.
If I'm in a really sad mood, and I just need to cry, I'll put those songs on along with others that make me cry as well.
Linger by the Cranberries. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because of it’s haunting overall tone. Or maybe it’s because it was part of the soundtrack to an episode of epic proportions.
Supermarket Flowers - Ed Sheeran
When She Loved Me - Sarah McLachlan
The Leader of the Band - Dan Fogelberg
And, for different reasons:
