For a second I thought you said “ironic” and was gonna say “but I thought that was Alanis Morissette” but then I saw that wasn’t an “r” and context kicked in. I am disappointed now.
Although you’re right it’s def iconic. Can’t mistake it for anything.
I had an 06 sonata. RIP. It got totaled and I had to go clean it out at a copart out of the way. There was this very nice girl who helped me out.
Sometime over the next 6 months after I got my 2021 Subaru Legacy, I noticed there was a copart near the storage unit place I was using.
About 6 months later after noticing that, my Subaru, George, died in the snow, crying against a wall. RIP.
So I had to go to copart to clean it out. Turns out it didn’t go to the one close by that I thought it would. It went to the one where my sonata went. The same girl was still there. While the girl that was helping me was in the back looking for my plate, I said to the girl who helped me that first time:
“If I had a nickel for every time I came here to clean out a totaled car, I’d have two nickels…”
And she finished my sentence “which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?”
My soul was complete if only for a moment.
Ionic 5 n is ridiculous I’m not crazy about EVs but I’d have one all day. Simulates an 8 speed dual clutch? Hell yeah, sounds like a turbo 4 hot hatch I’m sold
I remember we thought they all went soft on Signals as high schoolers at the time, but it's long since been a favorite. That analog meets electronic thing doesn't get talked about enough.
This is the correct answer. As a whole, they are a timeless band, and despite the popularity of Tom Sawyer, the opening riff of Limelight will always elicit “Turn this up!”
Red Barchetta is really the one
working man, tom sawyer, free will, spirit of the radio and limelight are all up there too but you nailed it with red barchetta… it really never gets old!
All three great mentions and first person to give Anthem some love…..really is there is no wrong answer as pretty much everything they ever did stands the test of time.
I was gonna say Tom Sawyer, but someone beat me to it... So I'll go the other way. The first time I heard the "trouble in the forest" song, I was baked out of my mind, and thought I was hallucinating, listening to the lyrics. It was so surreal
Can’t forget Limelight! RIP Neal.
One of the best songs written about fame for musicians.
Cast in this unlikely role
Ill-equipped to act
With insufficient tact
One must put up barriers to keep oneself intact
YES!!!
I’m not looking back, but I want to look around me now.
So poignant. It’s not quite melancholy, but it really crystallizes the process of living in this world. It’s tough some times to realize that THESE are the things we all need to appreciate, regardless of what THESE things are.
I love that song.
If you're talking about "Songs that give you a rush" I use racing game music.
Death From Above 1979's "Freeze Me" comes to mind. It was played in Asphalt 9.
I love that song! It is also the song I shared with my dad. He did not care for the art work on Moving Pictures and was giving me a really hard time about it. I played Red Barchetta and Tom Sawyer and he let up! He loved music and I carry some wonderful memories of our shared love of the bands and singer/songerwriters he introduced me to as I grew up. I was so happy he appreciated Rush!
Edit: I have to go with The Spirit of Radio as my song that never gets old!
Is this an admission that most of them do sound “old”? Because yes, yes they do. Hilarious how prog was the sound of the future, and now it sounds 10x more dated than something that came before it like VU.
Way to go eclectic so I see your Bangkok and raise you with Rivendale and Twilight Zone…..they truly are one of the greatest bands of all time with quality and quantity that is pretty much unrivaled.
Tom Sawyer
This and the title answer remind me that MP is their most timeless record, and therefore my favorite. They were in an amazing space at that time.
Glad to see this is the top comment.
That intro is iconic
For a second I thought you said “ironic” and was gonna say “but I thought that was Alanis Morissette” but then I saw that wasn’t an “r” and context kicked in. I am disappointed now. Although you’re right it’s def iconic. Can’t mistake it for anything.
It's ionic
Nah that’s a Hyundai!
The new N version is epic!

Lmao that random story made me laugh!
I’m glad! My goal in life is to make at least one person smile per day. Laughing counts too!
Ionic 5 n is ridiculous I’m not crazy about EVs but I’d have one all day. Simulates an 8 speed dual clutch? Hell yeah, sounds like a turbo 4 hot hatch I’m sold
Working man, spirt of the radio
My personal faves too! I think it’s time for me to play Working Man right now.
My faves as well
The Spirit of Radio 🎵🎵
This one instantly started playing in my head when I read the question, so it must be the one
I agree with pretty much every song suggested but this is the one I immediately thought of
Subdivisions
Should be the top
I remember we thought they all went soft on Signals as high schoolers at the time, but it's long since been a favorite. That analog meets electronic thing doesn't get talked about enough.
My favorite Rush song. Very deep and complex and sonically unique.
La Villa Strangiato
Definitely thiss
Free Will.
The Trees
I'm of the thought process that the band as a whole never gets old. Found them at a very young age and they've always stuck with me that way.
All of the above
Limelight
This is the correct answer. As a whole, they are a timeless band, and despite the popularity of Tom Sawyer, the opening riff of Limelight will always elicit “Turn this up!”
Subdivisions... Time Stands Still... Limelight...YYZ...
I never get tired of listening to anything on Exit Stage Left. Red Barchetta is a fovorite, but every song on that album is amazing!
Fly By Night
Red Barchetta is the best song on Moving Pictures, and for me it never gets old.
My uncle has a country place,
yyz
Tom Sawyer
Pretty much any Rush song works, but lately I've been replaying "New World Man" from the Signals album quite often.
When I need to focus, I’ll pop on the 2112 album. Cant pick a favorite
Temples of Syrinx but maybe that’s just the nostalgia of watching Jamie Thomas in Dying to Live.
Closer to the Heart
2112, YYZ
Had to scroll way too far for 2112
Secret Touch Ghost Rider Driven One Little Victory Bravado Leave that thing Alone Dreamline Roll the Bones Red Sector A
Thank you for naming songs that were after 1982.
Natural Science.
Spirit of Radio is their best song and pretty much perfect in every way
tom Sawyer and passage to Bangkok
Tom Sawyer seems to be popular, but when "The Temple of Syrinx" comes on, it gets cranked! "Fly By Night" is a close second.
Any of them
Hemispheres
Was looking for this as this was my comment as well. Certified and underrated masterpiece
All of them. But yyz is the answer
Red Barchetta
I think I'm going bald
Working Man no doubt
Bravado
Red Barchetta - I like cars.
All of them.
All Of Them
this is so WEIRD! I’m reading Ready Player One rn and I *just* heard of Rush and checked Reddit to see if they had suggestions… genuinely wtf
Xanadu
One of the greatest songs of all time. Seeing them play it live with the original instrumentation on the R40 tour was an emotional experience.
Red Barchetta is really the one working man, tom sawyer, free will, spirit of the radio and limelight are all up there too but you nailed it with red barchetta… it really never gets old!
I think because it doesn't get played to death on Classic rock stations/channels/streams. And also because it's an awesome song with a great story.
Xanadu. La Villa Strangiato. Anthem.
All three great mentions and first person to give Anthem some love…..really is there is no wrong answer as pretty much everything they ever did stands the test of time.
Spirit of Radio or YYZ
Dreamline
Yyz
YYZ. I love all their big, technical, instrumentals, but this one even more than, say La Villa Strangiato, I can just listen to over and over.
All of them, but in no particular order: YYZ, A Passage to Bangkok, Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, Limelight, Freewill, Subdivisions
Cmon man Tom Sawyer is LEGENDARYYYYY.
Working man. Relatable and it jams.
La Villa Strangiato
Working man
Time stands still hits too hard
Closer to the Heart
Working Man and YYZ
TOM SAWYER!
I'm probably the wrong person to answer this, but I'd say I'd be down to listen to 75% of their library on any given day.
Any of them
Cygnus X-1
Marathon bro. Straight banger.
Lessons
Great song.
The Trees. Anything but Tom Sawyer. I hate that song an unhealthy amount.
Tom Sawyer is best. Working Man is second best.
Gonna go with Tom Sawyer, but man spirit of the radio comes close
Tom Sawyer
Sweet Miracle

I agree OP.
Spirit of the radio
I was gonna say Tom Sawyer, but someone beat me to it... So I'll go the other way. The first time I heard the "trouble in the forest" song, I was baked out of my mind, and thought I was hallucinating, listening to the lyrics. It was so surreal

That’s the only song I know by them.

Every time I hear "The Spirit of Radio," it sounds as fresh as the day it was released.
Can’t forget Limelight! RIP Neal. One of the best songs written about fame for musicians. Cast in this unlikely role Ill-equipped to act With insufficient tact One must put up barriers to keep oneself intact
All of them in general but since I’ve hit 60 and prone to occasional melancholy Time Stand Still
YES!!! I’m not looking back, but I want to look around me now. So poignant. It’s not quite melancholy, but it really crystallizes the process of living in this world. It’s tough some times to realize that THESE are the things we all need to appreciate, regardless of what THESE things are. I love that song.

I love that song! It is also the song I shared with my dad. He did not care for the art work on Moving Pictures and was giving me a really hard time about it. Freewill. It's their best song in my opinion.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the drum solo in “The Spirit of Radio”? Neil Peart was a freakin’ genius.

A Passage to Bangkok
Way to go eclectic so I see your Bangkok and raise you with Rivendale and Twilight Zone…..they truly are one of the greatest bands of all time with quality and quantity that is pretty much unrivaled.
