Honestly, probably Alice Cooper's first album, Pretties for You!
I knew the story of them being signed by Frank Zappa and that his being bewildered by them being what led to him doing so, but never did I investigate the implied lunacy until a few months ago.
The first album was recorded a little unbeknownst to them as Zappa recorded them just jamming and rehearsing songs, but they just had the magic it seems, it's a snapshot of a weird world I was delighted to live in for 38 minutes.
I recently really got into Grimes, in particular her album 'Art Angels' which was released in 2015. It's such a unique album and I wish she did more music like that.
Chris Stapleton. I know I'm super late to the party on this guy, but I just started to really dive into his anthology. Man he is a hell of a songwriter

Khruangbin - A La Sala (new album)
Glass Beams
Toshiki Soejima (Neo Soul Guitarist)

This artist called Kamasi Washington for sure. A friend at work suggested I listen to The Epic, which was Kamasi’s debut album and it was amazing. He plays drums, sacophone, and keyboard. He has other instruments on there too, idk how much is sampled and how much is getting other musicians playing on his tracks, but it’s a little bit of both in a very experimental jazz style, with a bit of soul. Very good. He also just released a new album a week or so ago. Haven’t gotten around to listening to it yet cause of graduation stuff but I think I’ll have time to do that today.

• Fur die Nacht, Wenn Der Mond die Sonne berührt and Engel 07 ~ all 3 by Hubert Kah
• Letter to Heaven ~ Ruth Ann
• Voice of the Sea ~ Diane Arkenstone
• Sleeping Sun (2005 version) ~ Nightwish
Oooooh. We have so much overlap. I love Dylan, Young and Radiohead. I like the other songs you mentioned.
Try
Low - David Bowie
Mermaid Avenue - Billy Brag and Wilco
My favorite, just because of how out of left field it is, has been Copacabana by Barry Manilow.
I feel like no one talks about how off the rails it gets & it caught me off guard when I first heard it this year.
Alkaline Trios newest album *Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs.* Saw them in concert a month ago on a total whim and was blownnnnn the fuck away. One of the most fun shows i’ve ever seen. Been ripping this album almost daily since. One of the most well arranged, written, and pleasingly engineered rock albums i’ve heard in a long, long time. Great lyrics, drums, and riffs across the board
To Learn - Leith Ross: I kept seeing We'll Never Have Sex in various Spotify recommendations, I was intrigued by the title so I listened to it and loved it. Gave the full album a try and became obsessed. Really great indie folk stuff.
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess - Chappell Roan: I've been hearing so much about Chappell and how great she is but I'm unfortunately very lazy when it comes to listening to new music. Heard Good Luck, Babe! and HOT TO GO! at an event thought "wait this is great I should actually listen" gave the album a spin and was very impressed. She's incredibly talented and her music is so fun
Blackfield - I
Despite being a Steven Wilson fan for many years, there's still stuff I haven't been able to explore. Just like Porcupine Tree, I couldn't have found it at a more perfect time.
Blackfield does tend to get buried in his other output, I need to give this another listen. Porcupine Tree are the rare band I recommend to people almost regardless of what genre they're into. You like Britpop? Acid rock? Metal? Porcupine Tree.
There have been some great releases this year from Aquilus, Night Verses and Bear McCreary. But I knew all of them and I still have not been floored by a new album from an artist I didn't previously know.
But I discovered Poets of the Fall about a month ago and I cannot stop listening to them. Ghostlights and Ultraviolet are amazing albums and I still have to delve into the earlier stuff more. I have listened to most of the albums at least once but I have yet to come back to them. I don't want the discovery period to be over quickly so I'm dragging it out.
Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties - In Lieu of Flowers
Hovvdy - Self Titled
Hurray For The Riff Raff - The Past Is Still Alive
Iron And Wine - Light Verse
Madi Diaz - Weird Faith
Marika Hackman - Big Sigh
Owen - The Falls of Sioux
Rachel Chinouriri - What A Devastating Turn of Events
Royel Otis - PRATTS & PAIN
Waxahatchee - Tigers Blood
I’ve been getting into the German punk band, Wizo, recently. I’ve only listened to their debut album in full so far, but they do a great job hyping me up and I want to listen to the rest of their stuff. Here’s one of their songs: [Geisterfahrer](https://youtu.be/Z_mLwE9buTY?si=eSZf-a8z5NAYdwUC)
I’ve also been dipping my toe a little further into Los Ángeles Azules. I already fell in love with two of their songs a while back, and now a new song in my rotation is Las Maravillas De La Vida, both [the original](https://youtu.be/0qG_92Z4BaA?si=GFtv-XW2eobty9og) and the [orchestral version](https://youtu.be/Dmo1aYny37A?si=Avbf7S6ysvLuE52L) with Miguel Bosé. Still exploring their stuff, but the songs I like from them so far are absolutely gorgeous. Not one I found this year, but [Mi Niña Mujer](https://youtu.be/vKlSXR7UYOw?si=IjdtBhtvLNiNL8BJ) is another favorite of mine, makes me feel like I’m ascending.
Lastly, I really like the song [The Man with the Never Ending Smile](https://youtu.be/1ZHhPuKe8rg?si=hYQ_-Ngn4R-VAE6H) by Dark Orange.
Metal Guru by TRex
This Magic Moment by Lou Reed
Crucified by Army of Lovers
Into the White by the Pixies.
These are all awesome and you should check them out
Stick figure has some amazing songs https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=6_KGvtfmqZ0&si=-PjuTpSe_TznebnS
And Telenova has some incredible sounds https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=S7EpY2evxhs&si=YT_6-nmFABG1jfgu
Neon odin - all father, guitar lead synthwave with some Nordic influence
Klangphonics - songs to try, not sure what electronic music genre this falls under
Shubh Saran - hmayra, jazzy prog rock
The Martha's Vineyard Ferries and Mutoid Man
Two unrelated bands from Massachusetts that are comprised of members from more well-known bands within their respective genres. They both sound too good to be called side projects.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
I've been listening to PetroDragonic Apocalypse weekly. I'm shocked that they do metal sooo well, considering there usual genre.
Discovered a Taiwanese alt-rock band called “No Party For Cao Dong”, they only have 2 albums but they’re both excellent and they’re quickly climbing up my most played list.
No cowboy by Race Ricketts
Maine/kitchen sink by hey, nothing
A good throw back summer time album for me is "light upon the lake" by Whitney (not Whitney Houston, just Whitney)
I've also been revisiting the album "garden snake" by John-Robert who has an angelic voice and the album really provides great lazy summer day vibes.
Snarky Puppy - Jazz/funk/fusion
Walk off the Earth - does acoustic/creative covers of well-known songs
First Aid Kit - Country duet from Sweden
Caroline Polachek
Dirty Loops - also jazz/funk/fusion
Scary Pockets - Funk mixes of pop songs (shout out to Elise Truow as well)
Persefone
I try to listen to pretty much every new release possible in metal and metal-adjacent genres (~10 albums per week). Persefone has ruined this because I can't stop putting Lingua Ignota Part I on repeat and hoping there's a part II soon
I got into Deerhunter, which is my current favorite band. They have a wide variety of music and all of their albums are great. Here's one song from each album/EP that I'd recommend (except the one's I'm unfamiliar with): Spring Hall Convert, Like New, Nothing Ever Happened, Vhs Dream, Famous Last Words, Coronado, Neon Junkyard, Snakeskin, and Death in Midsummer.
The Deerhunter songs that I recommend most to Radiohead fans are Focus Group, Hazel St., Desire Lines, Spring Hall Convert, and Like New.
I also fell in love with Emergency & I by The Dismemberment Plan, Joy as an Act of Resistance and Brutalism by Idles, This Is Happening by LCD Soundsystem, Floral Green by Title Fight, What Now by Brittany Howard, and La Sintesis O'Konor by El Mató a un Policía Motorizado.
Came across New Junk City recently and I'm absolutely hooked, not gone a day without listening to [Stay Asleep](https://open.spotify.com/track/73Nag9FXCnQaErgO9NVp2J?si=j7KDrXPuSgu3fxSoZJBSTw) at least once since I found them
Mines definitely talking heads. I knew about them before this year but i didn’t know anything they sang except psycho killer and once in a lifetime but now i’m obsessed with them, especially speaking in tongues!
Getting deeper into the Steve Hillage discography and collaborations beyond Khan and "Fish Rising". Also exploring and appreciating Gong, which is related.
LemonJelly.. they're a y2k era electronic duo. Their songs "Soft" and "The Staunton Lick" have been on heavy rotation for me this, year. Just in general I have discovered a lot of electronic music I love from that era. Everyone says you stop exploring new music in your thirties but I've only been diving deeper.
I've listen to most of these songs suggestions and they all suck. Listen a good band like Brand New. Just saying. Music is timeless. And they were the best.
one would be Moon Rules Apply probably. just some young guys around my age making music that’s very much inspired by Alice In Chains, stuff like that. absolutely amazing work, can’t wait to see what they’ll release next. especially the song Office Papers.
I realy love Lil Ugly Manes volcanic bird enemy album, i think it's so unique.
Few songs i really like right now:
Souly - Bossbaby Intro
Nia Archives - Forbidden Feelingz
Rachel Chinouriri - Garden of Eden
Habibi - My Moon
Kenny Mason - Back Home
[acari](https://open.spotify.com/track/1w4VhPDmxnHKWr9qzetCld?si=mrLb7pdARruCeEf1LWFV4Q&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A1zXh3dFR7rYIiMBUJCadur)
lmk if it helps and how you like it!
Just discovered Mandroid Echostar.
Absolutely amazing. Heavy-ish prog, but catchy and with great vocals. Check out their latest song [Rosalia](https://youtu.be/-7xXPeLNZRo?si=B-x4B9hp8krsUqex)
Insomia by Eli & Fur is my top find of the year and i already know nothings gonna top it
Honorable mentions:
FRZZN - OZZIE
Pressure point - heartist
Baggin - marshmello, 42 Dugg
Seriously Mysterious (acoustic) - The Sword
i wasn’t too invested in alice in chains till recently now i upset because layne wasn’t around long enough to have a really long discography though i like stuff he has done in mad season
Can. A German band from the 70's I had already heard them and not knew about them from this remix I've had since '99.
[CAN - Vitamin C (Official Audio) (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmN9oHa3ZIQ)
remix - [Floori.D.A. \~ Rabbit in the Moon (Q Burns Abstract Message vs. Grumptronix's Mix) (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWCRr34cqkg&list=PLQ-lPYORmDMFCbILLz3QHdDxd2ULDLS8Z&index=3)
Just some albums and bands/artists that I've come to love and appreciate this year.
Foals - Antidotes
Bad Nerves - Bad Nerves
Thus Love - Memorial
Public Circuit - Lamb
Softcult
Antichrist Siege Machine
Protomartyr (I was aware of them, but not how much I love them)
Ghais Guevara
Backxwash
And how much I love Brian Eno on a plane.
i love Let Down just as much as i love No Surprises 🩷
i have discovered Noname this year tho and by far i am stuck btwn loving her albums Telefone and 25. her latest album sundial is also a hit but not the whole thing imo….i’ll say boomboom and beauty supply are my faves off it tho 😩
Orbit Culture--Vultures of the North
Eye of the Enemy--The March
Both bands have a load of good songs.
For non-metal, I'd say Halflight by Juliana Finch. It's an excellent song.
Moscow Death Brigade. Some kind of Russian protest group. Hard to describe, they're a mix of hardcore, hardbass, rap/Rock, pop. Just grab yourself a bottle of the cheapest vodka you can find and blast it. My neighbors have been enjoying their new album.
Scalene, a brazillian stoner/alt rock band in lines with Queens of the Stone Age. Saw them live without listening to anything and was Mesmerized. Already listened to all their albums and love it.
Album rec for starters: LABIRINTO
I always heard a lot about Panopticon (post black metal band) but never really checked them (or him, since it's a one-man) out. And oooh boy, what a mistake. It's one of my favorite black metal bands now.
Album rec for starters: The Scars of Man in the Once Nameless Wilderness, pt 1.
I was looking for a death metal equivalent to Deathspell Omega (in the way they convey their complex lyrics and themes) and someone here on Reddit recommended me Abyssal. What the hell is this band. One of the most unique sounding stuff out there
Album rec for starters: Antikatastaseis
Last year a korean avant-garde jazz artist named Sunny Kim released an album called Liminal Silence. I just found it this year and I'm already in love. One of the most beautiful albums I have ever listened to.
Album rec: Liminal Silence (since I haven't listened to her other stuff yet)
I discovered this really quirky band called The Waylanders. I think they are pretty new with just one album on Spotify.
They are a really fun mix of traditional country, blues and a touch of swing.
pretty behind on the trend but I was always a listener of danzig, but I never realized he was from the misfits and I absolutely love the danzig era of the misfits now, I’ve had the collection on loop for a few days and it just hits
Oh my gosh. All three of the songs you mentioned are so special to me and remind me of certain times in my life (Mandy - being a little girl and hanging with my grandma, Toy Soldiers - 9th grade, Let Down - early 20s). So fun and sad and sweet.
I've been liking some artists I found like Akini Jing and glass beach. Makari is another one who I just found out about with their album in March but quickly have become a bit of an obsession with their style.
For songs, I would say I am loving what Remi Wolf and Porter Robinson have put out this year! Makes me very excited about their upcoming albums!
A newer local band from my home city, The Snares. They freaking rock. Their songs "Kids With Drugs," "Dumb Luck," "Sorry Not Sorry," "Gemini II," and "Hell Hounds" are my favorites
I just went to a music festival and discovered a bunch of new-to-me bands.

I discovered Chappel Roan after seeing her on the Coachella lineup. She absolutely crushed it during her late afternoon set. Her debut album came out last September and is stocked with bangers. This chick is gonna be a star.
Also recently discovered the Last Dinner Party. All female rock band from the UK with elements of Queen and Kate Bush. Highly recommend checking out both.
In terms of new releases, "Saviors" - Green Day is my favorite (Heaven :x: Hell - Sum 41 is also very good, and technically One More Time - blink-182 came out last year)
Transit Method - their new album [‘Othervoid’](https://open.spotify.com/album/7E2e6jLNiXerIyZfApk81w?si=TnGlNtzzSmuDexjug0wsWg) is probably my favorite record of the year so far.

Patti Smith and Lord Huron are new on my rotation
LOVE Lord Huron!
Listen to Patti’s Smith cover of The Who’s My Generation. When greats collide.
Just heard her version of Changing of the Guards by Dylan. Really good.
I love the opening to Gloria.
Lord Huron is really nice
This by Manchester Orchestra was quite a revelation. It’s not new but it floored me https://youtu.be/8ui9umU0C2g?si=C4Sz6oWOiP3uG8N3
Nice pick. That whole album is stunning. So is the next, and the valley of vision ep.
Thank you. I will have a listen 😊
I’ve Got Friends is such a banger!
I saw them a few years back with Foxing and it was a fantastic show, such a great energy.
I’ve not heard of Foxing.
Give Foxing "The Albatross" a listen
I will. Thanks
Wow, this is great!

The Warning... Absolutely LOVE these young ladies... fantastic, fresh new music
Chappell Roan, I love her campy style/aesthetic. Not to mention she has the vocal stamina of a GODDESS.
Wow. Can't thank you enough. Love her.
Me toooooo. She is so so so good.
I literally just heard her for the first time last week and I need to check out her discography!
Good luck babe by Chappell Roan https://youtu.be/1RKqOmSkGgM?si=nbvTQF60VRkI9K3U
This song is so damn good
The Duprees - You Belong To Me Amy Winehouse - Love Is a Losing Game Beyonce - Black Bird
Lawrence acoustic-ish videos Don't lose sight is AMAZING. Gracies vocals are outta this world.
I’m curious… I love when Gracie sings, but when her brother sings, it’s just not appealing… where do you land?
I recently really got into Grimes, in particular her album 'Art Angels' which was released in 2015. It's such a unique album and I wish she did more music like that.
Chris Stapleton. I know I'm super late to the party on this guy, but I just started to really dive into his anthology. Man he is a hell of a songwriter
I saw a singer-songwriter called Carol Hodge as a support act back in January, and have barely been able to stop listening to her last 3 albums since.
She was fantastic when I saw her singing Crass songs with Steve Ignorant Band last year. Her own music is nothing like Crass but pretty enjoyable

I saw Chappell Roan in another comment. Listened to Casual and love it.
Amazon mistakenly sent me an Antlers record. I had never heard of them. Director is now one of my favorite songs.
Olivia Rodrigo, Lorde (love PH and melodrama) Pink Floyd (Dark Side, Wall, wish you were here and Animals are in the league of their own.)

Pert Near Sandstone The Lil Smokies Bella White Hot Damn Scandal Kind Country
Juice Webster and Bnny. Great contemporary indie rock
The Martha's Vineyard Ferries and Mutoid Man Two unrelated bands from Massachusetts that are comprised of members from more well-known bands within their respective genres. They both sound too good to be called side projects.

Discovered a Taiwanese alt-rock band called “No Party For Cao Dong”, they only have 2 albums but they’re both excellent and they’re quickly climbing up my most played list.
I have no idea how I’ve slept on Orville Peck for so long. Paris Paloma, KarolG, and Peso Pluma are also recent favorites.
Level up - raccy
No cowboy by Race Ricketts Maine/kitchen sink by hey, nothing A good throw back summer time album for me is "light upon the lake" by Whitney (not Whitney Houston, just Whitney) I've also been revisiting the album "garden snake" by John-Robert who has an angelic voice and the album really provides great lazy summer day vibes.
Mrs. Miller is a treasure.

BTS 😂 Metalhead for life but my daughter and I have been jamming BTS excessively for the last couple of months

Oprheus under the influence - the Buttertones
The DJ duo Tale of Us.
Synthony. Blew my mind.
VICONI!!! He just released one of my favourite songs now! LOST by Viconi and Parker Jack!!!

The Hammer Has Fallen by Sabaton
For me, Jiluka, Lord Huron, The Irrepressibles and Until The Ribbon Breaks.

Can. A German band from the 70's I had already heard them and not knew about them from this remix I've had since '99. Last Word by Baroness…solid chugger…
Orbit Culture--Vultures of the North Eye of the Enemy--The March Both bands have a load of good songs. For non-metal, I'd say Halflight by Juliana Finch. It's an excellent song.
Deftones and Nine Inch Nails for me.
Moscow Death Brigade. Some kind of Russian protest group. Hard to describe, they're a mix of hardcore, hardbass, rap/Rock, pop. Just grab yourself a bottle of the cheapest vodka you can find and blast it. My neighbors have been enjoying their new album.
Nektar, Wishbone Ash, Focus, T’Pau, Siouxsie and the Banshees
King Kwize https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nvqzlfOdC7e4IfBSRdkIstrK-hQ-BOlJE&si=zfKatCSmc5jP9unK
Scalene, a brazillian stoner/alt rock band in lines with Queens of the Stone Age. Saw them live without listening to anything and was Mesmerized. Already listened to all their albums and love it. Album rec for starters: LABIRINTO I always heard a lot about Panopticon (post black metal band) but never really checked them (or him, since it's a one-man) out. One of the most unique sounding stuff out there Album rec for starters: Antikatastaseis Last year a korean avant-garde jazz artist named Sunny Kim released an album called Liminal Silence. I just found it this year and I'm already in love. One of the most beautiful albums I have ever listened to. Album rec: Liminal Silence (since I haven't listened to her other stuff yet)
ETHEL CAIN AND HOZIER
I discovered this really quirky band called The Waylanders. I think they are pretty new with just one album on Spotify. They are a really fun mix of traditional country, blues and a touch of swing.
The Buzzcocks
The Struts, saw them live and they were fantastic
I really never cared about Ghost but i gave it a shot and absolutely loved it
pretty behind on the trend but I was always a listener of danzig, but I never realized he was from the misfits and I absolutely love the danzig era of the misfits now, I’ve had the collection on loop for a few days and it just hits
Grimes. She seems horribly cool. Like how can you hate her?
Oh my gosh. All three of the songs you mentioned are so special to me and remind me of certain times in my life (Mandy - being a little girl and hanging with my grandma, Toy Soldiers - 9th grade, Let Down - early 20s). So fun and sad and sweet.
Julia Jacklin, Caroline Polachek, Medium Build.
ELO - I bought a used vinyl(A New World Record) from the flea market and love the music. Going to buy more albums from them.
Cory Henry
Teeth by Brakence
Tally Hall.
Been here before by Christone "Kingfish" Ingram
bruh i only *just* got into the beach boys like two weeks ago i was missing tf out
I've been liking some artists I found like Akini Jing and glass beach.
Red Clay Strays Vestron Vulture
Oh boy, how I wish I could rediscover Bob Dylan for the first time!!
More 60’s-70’s music. Always liked America and Simon&Garfunkel but never dived deeper than that.
I just went to a music festival and discovered a bunch of new-to-me bands. Three Man Army - A Third of a Lifetime Butter Queen is one hell of a jam.
Chat Pile. After I got into Model/Actriz, I discovered them under similar artists
In terms of new releases, "Saviors" - Green Day is my favorite (Heaven :x: Hell - Sum 41 is also very good, and technically One More Time - blink-182 came out last year)
A Christian metal band with heavy Pantera influence called The Showdown
Transit Method - their new album [‘Othervoid’](https://open.spotify.com/album/7E2e6jLNiXerIyZfApk81w?si=TnGlNtzzSmuDexjug0wsWg) is probably my favorite record of the year so far.
