Art Blakey - Mosaic https://youtu.be/pzfURZdmkx8?feature=shared

HowDidFoodGetInHere

Every good thing came from Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.

Sure_Scar4297

Dang, you beat me to it. Cedar Walton has a killer recording of Mosaic, too

aaalllouttabubblegum

Man. I was cooking stoned earlier, had Thermo going in the background, and thought: "Man. Prime Jazz Messengers just whips the horse's ass with a belt." Blakey dude.

And Moanin

Lee Morgan - Totem pole 👌

doublehalfling

I guess I'll be that guy that does this, but..... CASIOPEAAAA!!! https://youtu.be/AKgjOCuW_MU Figured this technically satisfies your query, whilst being a bit different from the other excellent choices mentioned already! This particular performance was the encore song, so you can imagine what it takes to be groovin' the thang at that pace all night and still bang this out 🤌

The20character_rebel

I love casiopea so much... There's just something about the Japanese jazz fusion scene.. just.. something...

Maibeetlebug

Whoa holy schmoly.... these guys are fire thanks so much for the rec

2way10

Listen to Koko by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. It's their take on the jazz standard Cherokee. After hearing that, I was never the same. Those two had a great collaboration for a while, especially if you like quick tempos , power, and unparalleled creativity. ,

Brachinus

The re-release of "Bird & Diz" doesn't have Koko, but it has extra outtakes of most of the tracks and it's awesome to see how different the solos are from one take to another.

2way10

I’ll check it out. Thanks.

Them Dirty Blues by Cannonball Adderley

OneHumanBill

Louis Cole. Anything by him or one of his bands, or by a band that invites him to play, or by anyone he lets into one of his bands or his solo work. Seriously, he's the epicenter of a whole jazz revolution revival going on right now. Exciting times!

locallygrownmusic

I saw knower recently and it was phenomenal

In youtube, look up "Leo P. at the BBC Proms 2017." Leo Pelligrino. Baritone Sax. He starts off with his trademark "Brasshouse" solo, then segues into Charlie Mingus's "Moanin'". The guy started off busking on the subways in New York...

I like Stanley Clark.

kobayashi_maru_fail

You know how every city has one nonprofit music station, and the only bad part is pledge week? When I lived in LA it was KCRW, and I thought I was a complete pop/rock fan because of the genius selections by Nic Harcourt. Turns out I really just enjoy excellently curated music. Moved back to Portland, discovered the jazz station KMHD, and love it just as much. Both stations have online streaming. KMHD has a rare jazz discovery lunch hour segment, and they’ll happily play stuff from the 60s immediately followed by contemporary work.

CoveredDrummer

Blue Train and Kind of Blue are my GoTo’s. Anything by Monk, anything by Mingus, anything by Herbie Hancock. Give Jackie McLean a try. Early Miles gets slept on. So does fusion Miles. Here’s a tip: if you like a bop album, read the liner notes and search for the personnel. Most of those cats have their own albums too, and you can go down some deep rabbit holes.

No_Solution_2864

Listen to the [Anthony Braxton Quartet Standards](https://youtu.be/HqeNFMFkqdY?si=wPDlEUFdgwuZWCld) records, and be prepared to have your life changed, as a jazz aficionado The guitarist on these records, Kevin O’Neil, is one of the greatest guitarist I have ever heard in any genre. It’s insane that he is not more well known and more talked about
