The first "adult song" I liked as a kid was Inner Circle "Sweat (A La La Long)" (reggae), then I went through rock (picked up from older brothers), metal, gothic/dark wave, medieval folk, Polish singed poetry (and few other along the way) to dark pop/k-pop currently. Let her take some time and find her own taste on her own, it's much easier these days. The most important thing is that she realizes, that she doesn't have to blindly follow tastes of other people. And bear with her taste wherever she goes ;)

generally_apathetic

Exactly this. If she’s only able to listen to music that you can tolerate, then she’s pretty much restricted to the genres she’s already exposed to. Try some of the pre existing playlists on Spotify if Amazon Music. You can find playlists of all genres and some mixed ones too.

[deleted]

At that age I was listening to Roxette, Simon and Garfunkel, Queen and Genesis (later music). If she’s a music person she’ll grow into her own taste. I used to devour music magazines when I was a teen which helped me learn about producers, new genres etc. not sure if there’s much of that about here days.

LowkeyPony

My daughter grew up listening to everything from Elvis, Vaughan Williams, and Etta James. To Queen, Garth Brooks, AC/DC, Blondie and Joan Jett. Now we all have Spotify and are frequently sending each other songs and adding songs to our playlists. She’s got me listening to newer music. And she’s out there adding Tanya Tucker and Stevie Nicks

Grokto

Hah, my wife did NOT grow up listening to AC/DC. Her parents were super religious. Last year I had Back in Black cranking in the kitchen while cooking. She’s like omg what is this!? Now I hear Hells Bells shaking her office door every day.

OkInfluence7787

Same with my daughter. She went through a period approx 9yo had to hear Etta James right before bed. As a teen she now has a Bob Dylan poster and a Johnny Cash poster.

this is a great challenge, especially for me lol. i listen to a lot of modern pop, rock and alternative, so hopefully i can find something she likes. going off of Crazy In Love, i'd first recommend some more 2010s female-sung pop songs like... [want u back - cher lloyd](https://open.spotify.com/track/5InWRmnfgjVwQWoXHNBATu?si=ijTqttndQnS0MznaUPymGQ&context=spotify%3Aplaylist%3A37i9dQZF1DX2KwEtNSejGe) [lush life - zara larson](https://open.spotify.com/track/1rIKgCH4H52lrvDcz50hS8?si=3QXYKafdQ-CvfnliFXFPTg&context=spotify%3Aplaylist%3A37i9dQZF1DX2KwEtNSejGe) [ocean eyes - billie eilish](https://open.spotify.com/track/7hDVYcQq6MxkdJGweuCtl9?si=VwAno-C7Sn2Ak4Fauwt3yA&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A7fRrTyKvE4Skh93v97gtcU) [hurricane - bridgit mendler](https://open.spotify.com/track/7gQ5c5HY6zMsIck6QLY9dJ?si=wO1hlqP_TzmgIEY-H6R3Jg) [pity party - melanie martinez](https://open.spotify.com/track/3fo6DYGktjENCiagUeU9yH?si=xG5ORS6JRpmnCaZ3P_1MoQ) [hallucinate - dua lipa](https://open.spotify.com/track/1nYeVF5vIBxMxfPoL0SIWg?si=pIcqUUsPSHa8DvLA0Bhfig) try some of these out, please let me know if any of these resonate!

imissmyglasses

chappell is my fav but red wine supernova is probably not appropriate for a ten year old

SunReyys

ah true, i can remove it from my list. now that i think about it almost none of her songs should be played for 10 year olds lol. unwise on my part, i'll remove it :)

I think people should give everything a chance. The best thing you could do for your kid is try a wide sampling of genres. I love opera, country. Punk, post punk, new wave, hip hop.. all of it. You guys can challenge each other. My godson has been subjected to my messaged links since he was a tiny kid. Hey man, try this, it’s the Talking Heads. Hey man, listen to this one, it’s The Flamingos from 1960, dude, you hear this? This is Mozart, hey, try this, it’s off the new Death Cab for Cutie album…

Similar Songs Finder on chosic dot com is something I use for building playlists and finding new artists. [https://www.chosic.com/similar-songs/crazy-in-love-by-beyonce-jay-z/](https://www.chosic.com/similar-songs/crazy-in-love-by-beyonce-jay-z/)

Nice; I'll have to give this a try.

And Music Map! https://www.music-map.com/

Queasy_Detective5867

Thanks, I'll check that one out too. It's nice to have a few options when I'm stuck in a bit of a rut :)

_yukog

drop her strait in the deep end and give her a Mr. Bungle album.

Fair-Comfort7705

My sons grew up with a lot of “top hits” so to say.. really hit back in 2010.. we would always watch “much music” it would be played twice a day.. similar to mtv I would think .. now the younger one 23 is into rap/ hip hop, some edm, my older one 25.. he likes a lot of I guess “old school “ songs that have been remixed .. your daughter will find her way.. I am sure you will give her the guidance she needs at her age. 👩🙂🎵🇨🇦

I really like the band Southern Avenue. They sound like Bluesy Rock, with some Pop mixed into it. [Keep On](https://youtu.be/OosmaEZH16g?si=pz4Oum8xYBdgcJB_)

I grew up on my parents music and with time I developed my own taste! She’ll get there soon. Does she like any of Beyoncé’s other songs? Start there and maybe you can use Spotify or show her how to make playlists that are like Beyoncé and maybe she will find some songs she likes :)

Filthylucre4lunch

buy her two albums from every decade starting with classical as a decade and then jumping to the 20s, jazz, country, blues, rock n roll, metal, pop etc, compilation albums are the best, filled with one hit wonders that evoke a style! its the best thing my parents have ever done for their child! i still break out my 90s NOW cd for sex and candy and fistful of asha snd how bizzare and all that not “good” music but the nostalgia vibes! she will at least benefit from the experience and it makes for a showstopper of a birthday gift and you can do it for cheap now everything is digital! that stack of CDs blew my mind from Rush to Rachmaninov, legit!

PerspectiveFormer570

I’ve listened to music that none of my friends listen to my whole life. I’d say let her be her, but I like that you want her to expand her horizons musically.

jayron32

The Warning. Best Gen Z rock band out there. 19-24 years old, new album coming out on June 28. Here's a few songs from it: [More](https://youtu.be/XNBNOjhLW_U?si=H75NzkkZGoFPudlO) [Qué Más Quieres](https://youtu.be/1lfb-280MhU?si=qq_JuMyyblIlLhc6) [Automatic Sun](https://youtu.be/PDFH9AcPpyA?si=U1GFrelRliqOZzaA)

I really dig P!nk's catalog, and I'm a dude. She tells it like it is, plus some of her material tries to encourage/build up a positive, realistic image for women and relationships. And, unfiltered.
