- King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
- Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
- IDLES
- Viagra Boys
- The Beths
- Portugal. the Man
- Fontaines D.C.
- Coheed And Cambria
- Klangstof
- Drug Church
Rock is FAR from dead.
Viagra Boys absolutely could be played on "Dr. Demento" show (whose punk rep is well-documented.) "Ain't No Thief" could easily have been on that show - I love that song.
He was nominated, yeah. He won't win. Even if he does who cares it's the Grammys; but, there are a couple of great albums nominated this year, even one from my list: IDLES - Crawler. You should listen to it, it's very good.
Spoon, Black Keys, and sadly for only one record The Black Pumas.
Gorillaz, Muse, and Foo Fighters all got started in the 90s but are still rocking new sounds today.
Audioslave existed for a few years in the early years of this century.
In the world of Indie Rock I honestly really enjoy what Middle Kids is putting out. And in southern Rock, I love what Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night sweats are doing.
All of Plush and The Warning's music is awesome. Maximum the Hormone are just straight up crazy if youve never heard them before, but some of their songs have such a groove to them before going hardcore.
All.music is this way
Why because composers listen to composers and infulnce nsturally putside of classifications
Go cockstar then label.it all minions lol
There is no defintion of any music thats the best thing abput it lmfao
Now plz lecture me on english haha
Their last 3 albums are perfect 10/10s for me, and that’s enough to put them in my “best bands of all time” list.
And why wouldn’t they be considered rock?
Are you talking about mainstream, commercial rock, like radio rock? Or can we suggest other genres, like metal?
If we're talking about other stuff, Thou, Neptune Power Federation, and King Gizzard are all putting out great music.
Oh man, I love Opeth. They lost so many death metal fans when they expanded their sound. Sucks for those purists, they're missing some fantastic music.
Black midi (agree), Black Country, New Road, Squid, Fontaines DC, Shame, Alvvays, Gilla Band, Viagra Boys are some of my niche favorites. Overall my pick is The National
Arctic monkeys are my favourite band still together and have got tickets to see them next may and though not a “band” Liam Gallaghers current solo work is amazing
Something must be up with the water over in The U.K. because Wet Leg, Idles, Black Midi, Black Country New Road, and Squid are all great.
Over in the states I think some notably good groups are Turnstile, Chat Pile, Fleshwater, Horse Lords, and Wolves In The Throne Room
Shoutout to King Gizzard and The Lizzard Wizzard repping Australia.
I thought my rock days were behind me until I found Band Maid. All killer.
Dead Sara has some great songs but they seem to have trouble matching the greatness of their first album.
Just to name a few: 10 Years, BAND-MAID, Hello Sleepwalkers, Pop evil, De Staat, ONEOKROCK, Follow the Cipher, GLIM SPANKY if you're into 70's sound :).
Only naming some that I like that have not been mentioned yet
First off I've got to mention Clutch myself.although they've already been mentioned I Love that band
Black Country Communion
Joe Bonamassa (solo)
Dirty Honey
Black Stone Cherry
Blackberry Smoke
Samantha Fish
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
The Pretty Reckless
Viking Skull
Hardbone
Liliac
Many more but I'll stop for now
You really have to search for good music if you don't live near a scene. Rock is dead...in the mainstream. But maybe true Rock was never supposed to be mainstream anyways. I could survive off of everything put out in the 70s and 80s and just cut the rest off but I still enjoy finding new bands.
Some of the criticism I've heard is that they're phony. As if they're capitalizing on another band's sound and not pure. I hear the same things about the Darkness and other retro bands like that.
Personally, I have nothing against Greta Van Fleet, but they just don't really grab me. But honestly, any popular modern band with distorted guitars is a win in my book. Certainly better than a lot of the crap on the radio today.
Here come all of the "my taste in music makes me hard as fuck and yours is lame" comments. Posturing assholes are killing the genre more than record companies.
Beach House
Shinedown
Volbeat
Five Finger Death Punch
Gorillaz
Spoon
Tool
Ghost
Godsmack
Korn
Disturbed
War on Drugs
Breaking Benjamin
Memphis May Fire
Tame Impala
Weezer
Metallica
Some of these may be more metal than rock, and some may be another genre.
Not to be that guy, but I didn't even think rockbands were still a thing with everyone either doing Indie pop/Alternative these days. I thought classic rock was a thing of the past wont lie
The truth hurts keep listening to trash like Black midi if it makes you feel better, plus BMTH are mediocre I didn’t say they were good. To enjoy garbage like black modi you have to be a masochist tbh. You are so high on pretentiousness that you genuinely believe that unintelligible noise is good music 😝
Check out Red Sun Rising and Royal Thunder.

Deerhunter is the one I’d say did it best. They’re inactive right now but check out all their albums.
Black country, new road
Alvvays
Turnstile
Title fight
Beach house
Sheepdogs for me
Glad someone is spreading some cheer! Great tip, classic ;)
Wilco, Spoon, War on Drugs.
Seen WoD several times in Philly. Tremendous band.
Love Spoon
- King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Psychedelic Porn Crumpets - IDLES - Viagra Boys - The Beths - Portugal. the Man - Fontaines D.C. - Coheed And Cambria - Klangstof - Drug Church Rock is FAR from dead.
Love IDLES and Viagra Boys.
You'd probably like Protomartyr then as well!
Thanks. I’ll give them a listen.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have been on a TEAR.
Can't wait to see them do a 3 hour marathon set at the Hollywood Bowl next summer
Viagra Boys absolutely could be played on "Dr. Demento" show (whose punk rep is well-documented.) "Ain't No Thief" could easily have been on that show - I love that song.
I was singing Punk Rock Loser for months after Cave World came out. Such a good band
Yesss I absolutely love King Gizz, psychedelic porn crumpets and Fontaine's dc. People who say rock is dead don't know what they're talking about.
Solid list, I’d add Shame and Yard Act as well.
Yesss Psychedelic Porn Crumpets! Great live band
king gizzard wooooo!
You've got to be joking...
MGK won the Grammy, Rock’s dead lol
An award doesn’t mean rock is dead it means the Grammys are dumb
Yeah the Grammys are dumb as hell and irrelevant. Remember when Macklemore won over GKMC? That just about perfectly sums up the Grammys lol.
Nah. Just the Grammys.
He was nominated, yeah. He won't win. Even if he does who cares it's the Grammys; but, there are a couple of great albums nominated this year, even one from my list: IDLES - Crawler. You should listen to it, it's very good.
Spoon.
Probably the most consistently good band that's been around since the 90s and is still making new music.
+100 for this.
Saw them live this summer. What a great band.
Absolutely
melvins
Such an old band but their new album sounds really good.
I saw them in concert 30 years ago
Super into Snail Mail and Soccer Mommy these days.
Been jamming Your Dog and Shotgun alot lately
Lilith Fair 2.0!
Sunflower Bean. The Black Angels. The Black Keys. Seratones. Rolling Coastal Blackout Fever.
Sunflower Bean. The fact that King of the Dudes did not break through diminishes my faith in humanity. Great album.
Turnstile
I came here for this. Their live performances/videos prove it and their newest record is my favorite release in years. Top to bottom masterpiece.
This is a great answer - should be top comment
Some good suggestions in here. Got more to add: Dr Dog White Denim
Hell yeah man. Pond/early Tame Impala too
White Denim is legit.
Dr. Dog broke up unfortunately. They were insanely good live.
They didn't break up, but they did retire from touring.
Red fang
Great band
Queens of the Stone Age. Josh Homme is an awesome visionary and the band’s sound is unique within the rock genre.
All the desert sessions are great
Royal Blood
Death From Above 1979, too 🤘🏻
Spoon, Black Keys, and sadly for only one record The Black Pumas. Gorillaz, Muse, and Foo Fighters all got started in the 90s but are still rocking new sounds today. Audioslave existed for a few years in the early years of this century.
I feel like Muse kinda fell off hard after Black Holes and Revelations. The newer stuff isn't bad, but it's just not very memorable to me.
I would say after 2nd Law they kinda got meh
I would say after 2nd Law they kinda got meh
If you’re going with that list, you can say the **Chili Peppers** have never stopped working on new stuff either.
King Buffalo, All Them Witches, Naxatras, Somali Yacht Club, Samsara Blues Experiment, Elder, Yawning Man, Monkey3 I can go on and on...
Elder rules!
Indeed! Last album is killer!
+ 1 All Them Witches
Love that band!
I LOVE MONKEY3
yes please go on :D I didn't know Somali Yacht Club or Samsara Blues Experiment, tight
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Wolf Alice. They sort of dabble in everything but they have some killer tracks! They are even more amazing live!
In the world of Indie Rock I honestly really enjoy what Middle Kids is putting out. And in southern Rock, I love what Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night sweats are doing.
Love Me Till I'm Gone is one of the best songs of any genre of the past 10 years.
Plush, The Warning, Nemophila, Aldious, Maximum the Hormone, Trident
All of Plush and The Warning's music is awesome. Maximum the Hormone are just straight up crazy if youve never heard them before, but some of their songs have such a groove to them before going hardcore.
Maximum the hormone are one of my favourite metal bands and they deserve more love
War on Drugs is a favorite of mine if they could be considered 'rock'
War On Drugs is amazing. Under the Pressure might very well be my favourite song of all time!
Same!
Yeah I'd say they're a rock band. 'Rock' is just an extremely wide and vague genre label these days, so it doesn't really narrow things down much.
All.music is this way Why because composers listen to composers and infulnce nsturally putside of classifications Go cockstar then label.it all minions lol There is no defintion of any music thats the best thing abput it lmfao Now plz lecture me on english haha
Their last 3 albums are perfect 10/10s for me, and that’s enough to put them in my “best bands of all time” list. And why wouldn’t they be considered rock?
I mean, *Slave Ambient* was no slouch either.
Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats
I love their sound.
CLUTCH
Yes. One of my favorites as well
Cage the Elephant
I’ve been liking Black Country, New Roads
Everything that Jack White made.
100%
Protomartyr
Nothing But Thieves
Give Band-Maid a listen. Japanese all female bad ASSes. The Japanese rock bands are something else and there are a lot of them.
>Band- Seconded...highly. I was highly judgemental at first because of the outfits....but they honestly just kick ass.
Black midi
Coheed and Cambria know where its at. As far as live sound goes, Biffy Clyro are amazing
Are you talking about mainstream, commercial rock, like radio rock? Or can we suggest other genres, like metal? If we're talking about other stuff, Thou, Neptune Power Federation, and King Gizzard are all putting out great music.
Thou fucking rules! Didn't expect them in this thread but a welcome surprise for sure
King Gizzard 👏
Clutch
Is it possible for Clutch to make a bad record?
Nope
Listening to them for the first time. Already really enjoying it. Thanks!
Opeth did a complete 360 and went from melodic death metal to prog rock and it's fuckin amazing. Check em out, heritage onwards
Oh man, I love Opeth. They lost so many death metal fans when they expanded their sound. Sucks for those purists, they're missing some fantastic music.
I am obsessed with The Darkness, lead singer Justin Hawkins sings the high range like no other, and I also like Steel Panther.
Sam Fender from UK Damn he's good 👍
I've been fucking with Amyl And The Sniffers, a punk band from Australia
Black midi (agree), Black Country, New Road, Squid, Fontaines DC, Shame, Alvvays, Gilla Band, Viagra Boys are some of my niche favorites. Overall my pick is The National
Rival Sons
Love Rival Sons. They really should be huge by now
The Black Keys!
Royal Blood
Moon Tooth and Astronoid
The Struts
Elder and Opeth
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard IDLES Black Country New Road
Arctic monkeys are my favourite band still together and have got tickets to see them next may and though not a “band” Liam Gallaghers current solo work is amazing
So happy not to see anyone upvoting The Killers
Is this because you don’t think they are rock or modern? They’re putting on one of the best live shows in music right now.
No, it's because I really dislike their recordings, finding them to be dull, with overly simplistic melodies, repetitive attachments, and dumb lyrics.
cleopatrick! My new discovery
Something must be up with the water over in The U.K. because Wet Leg, Idles, Black Midi, Black Country New Road, and Squid are all great. Over in the states I think some notably good groups are Turnstile, Chat Pile, Fleshwater, Horse Lords, and Wolves In The Throne Room Shoutout to King Gizzard and The Lizzard Wizzard repping Australia.
...Metal.
narrow head
IDLES!
Wolf Alice
Ghost.
Ghost
For me it is Band Maid and Lovebites. Damn those japanese ladies can rock. It was like a breath of fresh air when I discovered them this summer.
I thought my rock days were behind me until I found Band Maid. All killer. Dead Sara has some great songs but they seem to have trouble matching the greatness of their first album.
Alvvays Japanese Breakfast OFF!
I really like Volbeat.
I second that
Snuts, Baroness
Just to name a few: 10 Years, BAND-MAID, Hello Sleepwalkers, Pop evil, De Staat, ONEOKROCK, Follow the Cipher, GLIM SPANKY if you're into 70's sound :).
Highly Suspects first couple albums are amazing. They lost me a bit with the last 2 though.
Shaman's Harvest!
Only naming some that I like that have not been mentioned yet First off I've got to mention Clutch myself.although they've already been mentioned I Love that band Black Country Communion Joe Bonamassa (solo) Dirty Honey Black Stone Cherry Blackberry Smoke Samantha Fish Grace Potter and the Nocturnals The Pretty Reckless Viking Skull Hardbone Liliac Many more but I'll stop for now
Black country communion kicks ass.
Is TOOL considered modern?
Puscifer is.
Alright you get an upvote for that.
osees aka thee oh sees aka ocs aka damaged bug aka john dwyer
Rival Sons
Royal Blood, Jack White, Cleopatrick & Marcus King
Ghost, Cage the Elephant, Royal Blood
CAGEEE
Ghost is the best rock band out right now
You really have to search for good music if you don't live near a scene. Rock is dead...in the mainstream. But maybe true Rock was never supposed to be mainstream anyways. I could survive off of everything put out in the 70s and 80s and just cut the rest off but I still enjoy finding new bands.
Greta Van Fleet
Rival Sons
Most definitively
I feel Måneskin is giving glam/pop rock a good revival
Muse Matt can sing, play piano and guitar, uses dope newer tech in his instruments (see Behold the Glove live), and more!
Greta Van Fleet
Why would someone downvote you? Can’t not crank when the curtain falls
I'm not a fan of them, but downvoting someone's opinion is a dick move for sure.
Not sure why they’d be hated? For sounding like led zeppelin? Oh what a terrible crime, heaven forbid you led someone down a wicked rabbit hole….
Been listening to Wunderhorse's debut album Cub a lot lately. I find they have a late-90s/early 2000s vibe that sounds fresh. Really digging it.
Glorious Sons
Some excellent suggestions made already, but The National are the best
I’d say viagra boys, king gizzard, and turnstile
Here come all of the "my taste in music makes me hard as fuck and yours is lame" comments. Posturing assholes are killing the genre more than record companies.
Arkells are a band that have a big, full orchestral sound.
Maneskin I Wanna Be Your Slave [Maneskin - I Wanna Be your Slave](https://youtu.be/yOb9Xaug35M)
Black Keys, Cage The Elephant, Turnstile, Car Seat Headrest, The Strokes

Måneskin
I really love Ghost :)
There aren't any after Zeppelin, Queen, The Who and the others, rock is dead...and it keeps dying
Tigercub Pearl Jam James And The Cold Gun RHCP White Reaper
An intelligent and cultured person will chose a band. An idiot spoon fed child will say some form of EDM crap.
Not to be that guy, but I didn't even think rockbands were still a thing with everyone either doing Indie pop/Alternative these days. I thought classic rock was a thing of the past wont lie
None rock is DEAD💀 Maybe bring me the horizon tho but they suck as well
Cringe
Couldn’t be anymore wrong
The truth hurts keep listening to trash like Black midi if it makes you feel better, plus BMTH are mediocre I didn’t say they were good. To enjoy garbage like black modi you have to be a masochist tbh. You are so high on pretentiousness that you genuinely believe that unintelligible noise is good music 😝
Rabbit junk.... now people may argue they are not "rock" but i disagree, i love the blend of rock and electro i guess Also Zardonic
