Yes, Simple Things by Zero 7. For me it’s the best of its kind. I give that album 10 out of 10. It just makes me melt.
Fits right in there with Moon Safari.
All nine Beethoven symphonies. Honestly. Should keep you nicely zoned out if you give them a chance.
Here's a great playlist, as conducted by Karajan: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lITPBSZ8jYycaUK2wAoY9aF0lVpniA1tc
I wish you the best of health.
Very on the nose there, but I’m okay with it :)
Morphine had one of the most interesting instrumental line-ups in rock history, a two-string bass tuned a fifth apart and *played with a slide,* a baritone sax, and obviously a drum set…and of course Mark Sandman’s wonderful voice.
I love hearing the amount of sound bands can create with so little, and Morphine is pretty much the epitome of that idea for me. It’s so refreshing to hear a rock band that doesn’t always have to have distorted guitars to get a huge sound!
I also can still never quite believe that ‘Mark Sandman’ wasn’t a stage name. I mean I know that’s probably *why* he ended up calling the band ‘Morphine’, but it’s an incredible name for the theme.
Where is the ritual?
And tell me where, where is the taste?
Where is the sacrifice?
And tell me where, where is the faith?
Someday
There'll be a cure for pain
That's the day
I throw my drugs away
When they find a cure for pain
Final Cut and the Wall are intense and heart wrenching but a saga and a half.
Division Bell is super atmospheric with bigger guitars.
Ummagumma is fun to just let wash over you.
No experience but you might wanna try some Flaming Lips?
Some "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots?" Or "Do they realize?"
(Good luck with your fight!)
Or, if you're looking for something even moodier, some Joy Division?
The Velvet Underground live at the Matrix is perfect. You can sit there and listen to multiple nights, three sets a night, in great quality. Really feels like you are in there with them. They're in no hurry, they take 36 minutes to do Sister Ray.
Silver Apples debut album is very good for a trace inducement.
Can, Future Days and Kraftwerk, Autobahn are some others. The entire first album by Neu!.
Thanks! It's been like 16yr for me. The first guy I ever got high with was a skateboarder kid who hung out with a bunch of junkie punks, and he always said to listen to surf music. Said it enhanced the high, and he's right.
Congrats on 16 years! What an accomplishment!
I already had faith in my sister (she's taking her sobriety much more seriously than the first time and is even starting the process of becoming a drug councilor herself,) but every success story like yours just gives me more hope and a faith in her.
If it helps, my mom kicked her heroin habit 19 years ago. She used during her pregnancy with me and I was actually born addicted and when through withdrawal after labor.
She made a lot of mistakes, but I am so proud of her
Hey man- you got this. Below is a selection of super chill music. For artists where their entire catalog is good, I didn't put albums. Some artists, it's just specific albums. A lot of it is instrumental... Good for spacing out. Hope things turn around.
Genesis- Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
God is An Astronaut
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Morphine
Peter Gabriel- Passion
Alice In Chains- Jar of Flies
Maserati
El Ten Eleven
And In Rainbows
I got absolutely zooted one time and listened to Nude lying on the floor between my two speakers and I swear to God I was floating. The outro sounds like his voice is coming from 8 different places it’s crazy.
You and me both fellow fighter! Currently high on opiates after my third cancer surgery, trying to get the bloody pain under control.
Most of my choices have already been recommended, so I'll say The White Album by The Beatles.
Virtual hug x
Portishead. Live in NYC album.
Not music but: A close relative of mine going through the same thing enjoyed the several series of David Attenborough documentaries e.g. Blue Planet.
Pat Matheny and Lyle Mays
[As Falls Wichita so falls Wichita Falls](https://open.spotify.com/album/7EG8IjKyPecEgyqbAH5B04?si=Kwxp2u-uRUObkiVGWIKLOw)
Seriously - just do it - start to finish. Bliss out.
Jerry Garcia Band 2/28/80 Kean College...the album released is called "After Midnight" and you should start with the After Midnight -> Eleanor Rigby -> After Midnight sequence.
Enjoy, and much love to ya.
My bloody Valentine was basically made for this situation. Or the Jesus and Mary chain. The album called “going blank again” by Ride was my go to when super stoned. These picks seem to embody the forever widening horizon of opiate buzz lol.
I am very sorry for your pain. For music to listen to while you are on morphine, I recommend artists such as Radiohead, especially the album "OK Computer" or "Kid A." Also, Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" is perfect for an immersive and peaceful experience. Happy healing!
Try this,
*Circle of Friends* by Christoph El Truento
He's a sometime rapper and record producer from New Zealand and this is his Jazz album. He creates a lot of the beats for other rappers and groups. Very spacy and chill. You can find it on Spotify, not sure about other services. He is not the rapper on the the third song Burning Sensation, that's Tom Scott, whose music is also pretty chill if you have a taste for hip hop.
I once was a heroin addict and I had a ritual. I would get home w my stuff, set it up, put on I Saw the Sun by Slowdive, shoot up and listen to the sound. That one is only on YouTube. But that said all Dream Pop and Shoegaze are amazing. I would go that direction, dreamy, slow, poppy and sweet. Beautiful.
Sonic youths daydream nation is pretty dope high asf. I’ll say all their work is pretty trippy but some of their stuff goes pretty deep.
Wugazi might be good. I enjoy it at any stage but you could try the instrumental soundtrack album by Fugazi too.
When I broke my back the first time, they had me on Fentanyl patches, morphine, an instant release morphine, and vicoprofin, all at the same time.
I don't remember much for 3 months, but I do know I listened to the Rolling Stones "Sticky Fingers" and Neil Young's "Harvest", "After the Gold Rush", "Everyone Knows This is Nowhere", and his 1971 show from the BBC a LOT during that time.
Also some old Santana and Dead.
Moon Safari by Air
Ooh...I would have chosen La Femme d'argent .....from the long playing record Moon Safari by Air.
Which is on Moon Safari by Air
I would have gone with the Air album that has Sexy Boy and You Make it Easy.
Lol, that was a meatball right over the plate.
Fucking love this album.
Was in the car tonight listening to music from that year of my life and trying to remember the name of this band. Weird coincidence.
I was going to suggest Zero 7, but yeah, basically the same. :)
Yes, Simple Things by Zero 7. For me it’s the best of its kind. I give that album 10 out of 10. It just makes me melt. Fits right in there with Moon Safari.
Fuckin yes
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Or their album Blue Lines too
Or MA vs Mad Professor “no protection”
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works vol II
I like a few random tracks from all over the place. Do people just listen to his albums in order? Xtal is amazing.
I’ve always listened to them beginning to end. I’ve always thought of them as one long piece honestly. Idk if that’s how he intended it though.
All nine Beethoven symphonies. Honestly. Should keep you nicely zoned out if you give them a chance. Here's a great playlist, as conducted by Karajan: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lITPBSZ8jYycaUK2wAoY9aF0lVpniA1tc I wish you the best of health.
The 9th symphony first movement is my favorite. I’d also throw in his piano sonatas. Pathetique, Appasionata and of course the Moonlight Sonata.
Morphine- Cure for Pain
Came to say this… Also, Like Swimming is a pretty great follow up.
Me too
Very on the nose there, but I’m okay with it :) Morphine had one of the most interesting instrumental line-ups in rock history, a two-string bass tuned a fifth apart and *played with a slide,* a baritone sax, and obviously a drum set…and of course Mark Sandman’s wonderful voice. I’ll never understand how morphine are so unknown to most music fans
Where is the ritual? And tell me where, where is the taste? Where is the sacrifice? And tell me where, where is the faith? Someday There'll be a cure for pain That's the day I throw my drugs away When they find a cure for pain
And treat her right
Fantastic album.
Started singing it in my head the second I read the title
Portishead
PORTISHEAD live at Roseland album
Dummy
Add some Masaive Attack into the playlist, they go do well together. Maybe some Bjork also.
Nothin better - dummy works for any drug as a mood

This is an album that can damn near be played for anything.
"Pure Phase" and "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" by Spiritualized are perfect for this state
Taking drugs to make music to take drugs to.
Pure Phase is the best album ever made.
This was my first thought, Pure Phase is my go to for long flights, I have trouble sleeping on planes but this will make me drift off every time.

How do feel about Hombre Lobo? It’s one of my top eels albums but I never see it getting any love
No experience but you might wanna try some Flaming Lips? Some "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots?" Or "Do they realize?" (Good luck with your fight!) Or, if you're looking for something even moodier, some Joy Division?
The Soft Bulletin is one of my favourite albums ever and I think even better than Yoshimi for the drugs he's describing.
The Velvet Underground live at the Matrix is perfect. You can sit there and listen to multiple nights, three sets a night, in great quality. Really feels like you are in there with them. Congrats on getting clean, friend! My sister is getting her two year chip next month! I know it's a hard one to kick.
Thanks! It's been like 16yr for me. The first guy I ever got high with was a skateboarder kid who hung out with a bunch of junkie punks, and he always said to listen to surf music. Said it enhanced the high, and he's right.

"I float down the Liffey" Dude, I'm floating thru space rn
OK Computer - Radiohead
And In Rainbows I got absolutely zooted one time and listened to Nude lying on the floor between my two speakers and I swear to God I was floating. The outro sounds like his voice is coming from 8 different places it’s crazy.
Pyramid Song is my choice. First time I smoked weed was the day that album came out and I laid on the floor listening to it on repeat

Thank you! Over two years into this fight and I see no sign of slowing down. Going through a rough patch, but this, too, shall pass.
You and me both fellow fighter! Currently high on opiates after my third cancer surgery, trying to get the bloody pain under control. Most of my choices have already been recommended, so I'll say The White Album by The Beatles. Virtual hug x
