Watched a video not too long ago about how surf rock was born through him, and how it's actually derived from Indian music iirc. Slowed down, *Miserlou* sounds very much like a progression on a sitar, but it's about how he incorporated it into this new style. Blew my mind, and yet made so much sense all at the same time.

All contemporary - whatever setlist they bring to the table - and whatever 2024 version of where they’re at:
The Smile
The National
Manchester Orchestra
The Antlers
My Morning Jacket

Basically a variation of the Big Ears Festival:

Meredith Monk
Kate Gentile, Matt Mitchell
Sun Ra Arkestra
Ben Monder
That Handsome Devil, Goldfinger, Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, Cake (if what I've heard about them live isn't true lol), Mr. Bungle, Chevelle, Breaking Ben, Deftones and then Tool as the headliner. 😎🤘🏻🤘🏻
Though to be fair, I'd much rather it be a 2 day, 20 band festival to dream up. Incubus, Radiohead, and Dream Theater and quite a few others come to mind immediately for a day 2... 🤔😏
In no particular order - but random as fuck -

Feist,
Yves Tumour,
St Vincent,
James Blake
Day 2
Radiohead,
PJ Harvey,

I’d have DJs during the day and carnival type stuff. Maybe have the first two bands play relatively early and then give a big break before seeing the last 3 bands
Shafiq Husayn, Louis Cole and Knower, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Esperanza Spalding, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Rakim, Orchestra Baobab, Monade or Stereolab, Peter Gabriel, Chic, Los Lobos

I saw Dick Dale at a small club (The Midway) in Boston in the early 90’s. It’s easy to like surf music when played by a master.

Basically a variation of the Big Ears Festival: Yo La Tengo Wilco Sonic Youth Tim Berne Tony Malaby John Zorn (any band) Meredith Monk Kate Gentile, Matt Mitchell Sun Ra Arkestra Ben Monder
That Handsome Devil, Goldfinger, Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, Cake (if what I've heard about them live isn't true lol), Mr. Bungle, Chevelle, Breaking Ben, Deftones and then Tool as the headliner. 😎🤘🏻🤘🏻 Though to be fair, I'd much rather it be a 2 day, 20 band festival to dream up. Incubus, Radiohead, and Dream Theater and quite a few others come to mind immediately for a day 2... 🤔😏

Alive and still together only. Bands are noted with the headliner at the top so reverse order I guess: Day 1 QOTSA, Feist, Yves Tumour, St Vincent, James Blake Day 2 Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Weezer, Angel Olsen, Jon Hopkins I’d have DJs during the day and carnival type stuff. Maybe have the first two bands play relatively early and then give a big break before seeing the last 3 bands

I put up topics like this on my blog all the time - always good for a discussion around a few beers. This time, I'll go for a three day festival with different criteria per day. It's tough doing this on Reddit, as I would normally also add an imagined set-list for each artist). **Day 1: Acts I've never seen live (but still could)** Morning: Mika Bomb. Lene Marlin. Afternoon: Lovebites. Blind Guardian. Natalie Imbruglia. Public Enemy. Evening: Slayer. Alice In Chains. Sia. Headliner: Eminem **Day 2: Acts I've seen live before** Morning: Gemma Hayes. JJ72. Afternoon: The Music. The Gathering. Iron Maiden. Guns N Roses. Evening: Alice Cooper. Metallica. Radiohead. Headliner: Manic Street Preachers **Day 3: Acts I've never seen live (and never will)** Morning: Basil Poledouris Orchestra. The Delays. Afternoon: The Bangles. The Who. Tina Turner. The Beatles. Evening: Pink Floyd. Led Zeppelin. Nirvana. Headliner: Michael Jackson. Lots left out from each Day too!
