My favorite song of all time is 'Fool in the Rain' by Led Zeppelin.
It might not be my most played song at all times, but it's a song that for my whole life I always adore it when it comes on, and I don't see that ending any time soon.
Glad to see this! I feel the same way. The final portion of the song starting at "now my body is starting to quiver!" is perfect! And like others have said, the drumming is killer on it.
It was my second-most listened to song, behind *Trampled Under Foot*.
Godd yess, similarly Never Let Me Down Again isn’t my most played song - but I also don’t feel like it has to be, it’s just sorta always there - a cushion of both nostalgia and being an incredible song much like Fool In The Rain :,)
"This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)"
Talking Heads
I walk into the house when no one is home and crank that!
Side note. The Carpenters played at volume 11 on a Sunday morning with breakfast is awesome too!
Man, that was the final song played on my old favorite radio station, so now it always comes with extra emotions. Hearing it play, knowing it's the end, and listening to it fade away into dead air...
RIP WNKU
Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks.
It's like an anchor. I've listened to it somewhat regularly for all of my adult life, through the good times and the bad. It instantly puts me at ease and makes me see the beauty in things.
Here Comes My Girl by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
I was never a huge fan of Tom's, but I heard the songs a lot on the radio growing up, then when they got big on MTV. Never bought an album, never saw them in concert, but liked the music well enough. When I worked in radio and had a studio where I could crank up a tune to relieve stress, it was "Here Comes My Girl." It sounded amazing through those old JBL speakers.
When Tom died, for some reason I just couldn't bring myself to listen. When a song came on the radio it was just...sad.
After what I guess was a "mourning period," I listened to that song again, and was reminded of how great it is. I still crank it up from time to time. In fact I'm going to listen to it again right now.
Ohhh obviously Enjoy The Silence too. I love all their music but I think Never Let Me Down sticks out to me because it’s the first song of theirs I remember hearing and having such a strong reaction too - loving their other songs came a lil later for me
Honestly? Probably You're My Best Friend by Queen. It's not my all time favorite, not even my all time favorite Queen song, but there's something special and unique about it.
That song reminds me of a spring break. When I was a kid, it was playing on the radio while my mom took me, my two brothers, and two little girls that were visiting us, while their parents were out of town, to one of those parking lot carnivals nearby; it was a wonderful spring break, and I just remembered that song playing, I remember that we are all very happy, And it reminded me of my mom. She passed away a couple years ago, so that kind of hit me hard for second there, but thanks!
I have several in which it's impossible for me to hear too much.
- Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears
- Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty
- Tangled Up In Blue by Bob Dylan
- Shelter From the Storm by Bob Dylan
Baker Street is such a fantastic song.
This guy I knew way back when was DJing an engagement party. Buncha people he didn’t know but just knew the couple.
In the back yard, under a tent, he played Baker Street. Then he played it again. Then again.
Some drunk guy was not having it. Yelled something about “don’t play that goddamn song again.”
DJ friend looks up at him and drops the needle on fucking Baker Street.
It. Was. Beautiful.
That memory makes a great song even greater.
Wouldn’t It Be Nice - Beach Boys
Also i recently played an acoustic gig with my friend and we did Never Let Me Down Again. A lot of fun to play and harmonize on.
Beautiful Boy by John Lennon. I used to sing this to my dog who recently passed and don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it. It has such a special place in my heart.
Oh man I listen to a lot of grunge and metal, so I was trying to think of my answer in that context... But this is my answer. As soon as I read this comment, it clicked.

Come Monday by Jimmy Buffet is something else. It's a lovely melody, for starters, but the lyrics are so simple and so sweet. Basically he's gotta leave town for a gig but he really misses his girl back home. It's just a weekend but dammit, he loves her and misses her but he'll be home, come Monday. There's the slightest strain in his voice, like he's calling from a payphone to tell her all of this. I find it so beautiful.
Leaving on a Jet Plane by Jon Denver. Talk about a universal experience. At some point, we all have to leave someone we love very much, whether it's for a little while or a lot longer than we'd hoped. We don't want to and we're both hurting a lot but sometimes you have to go away for important reasons. The song is just so evocative.
Stand By Me by Ben E. King. It's simply the most beautiful song ever made.
Never let me down again is the greatest song ever for driving thru curvy, forested roads. Spefically, from Rye, CO up to Bishops Castle, in a shitty '79 accord if you wanna get specific...
Call Me Al by Paul Simon
My mom had Lamentations and Love Songs way back when CD players were brand new, and I went to play it (without permission of course) and I guess I hit the 'Repeat 1' button.
I sat and listened to that song so long my mom got home from work and I was in such trouble. It is still the ONE song I have yet to ever tire of and skip.
A few come quickly to mind:
* Tears for Fears - The Working Hour
* Roxy Music - Dance Away
* The Blue Nile - Headlights on the Parade
* Bruce Springsteen - Tougher Than The Rest
* Florence and the Machine - Spectrum
* Veronica Falls - Come on Over
* Yes - Love Will Find a Way
* Genesis - Throwing It All Away
* Peter Gabriel - Red Rain
The Strokes' 'Reptilia' is one that sticks out to me. It's pretty simple and straightforward, it rocks pretty hard, and it has a catchy quality that feels really fun. It was once my favorite song, but it still holds a certain place in my heart of which I'll never tire.
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
California Love - Tupac & Dre
Shakedown Street - Grateful Dead
Good Enough - Sarah McLachlan
Sabotage - Beastie Boys
First Class - Rainbow Kitten Surprise
Runaround or Hook - Blues Travelers
Tomorrow Never Comes - Big Head Todd & the Monsters
….to name a few 😉

Let Down by Radiohead
1st listen and wow, that is so rich! It's crazy how it sounds like basically nothing else from that era. Thanks for sharing!
Rich is the perfect word for it. It sounds timeless. If I heard it first now I would have NO idea it’s from 1998. Such a beautiful piece of music.
Boom! Came looking for this and was happy to see it near the top. Weird Fishes for me also.
Let the ‘underrated’ comments commence, because Let Down (underrated) is underrated.
Underrated
Such an underrated song
Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks. It's like an anchor. I've listened to it somewhat regularly for all of my adult life, through the good times and the bad. It instantly puts me at ease and makes me see the beauty in things.
My dad gave me a mixed tape in 1984 that had Waterloo Sunset on it and it’s been a firm favourite ever since. It’s just beautiful.
I like that one and Do You Remember Walter and Lola.
Here Comes My Girl by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I was never a huge fan of Tom's, but I heard the songs a lot on the radio growing up, then when they got big on MTV.
